*Official* 2017-2018 B1G In-Season Thread

Sunday should be a real blast. At least it’s at home, so IU will have a chance

Never a sure thing at assembly. I think Hummel and company struggled against Crean’s early teams when the talent discrepancy was significant.

In year 3 of Crean, IU was awful, but it was a 2 point game with 3minutes left. I just don't think IU can stay close to pu this year. It sickens me, but pu is really good this year.

LMAO......The main reason I hope we get Langford is so Green will transfer. Just to much playground. One more a dribble and a simple pass, and Morgan either scores or gets fouled. But nope. Green throws a bounce pass at 100mph, at Morgans feet. When a simple, fundamental pass would've done.

Jesus.

You guys were lucky to win that game. Almost gave it away at the end with several careless plays.
Yeah, we've done that 4 times in the B1G already. It happens when your guards are young.

Fact is that Indiana lost to a historically bad Illinois team.

We just have terrible guards. That last play shows you how much of a mental midget Rob Johnson is. You're a god damn SENIOR. Go get the fvcking ball. Naaaah. Defer to a soph. Jesus I cannot wait until he and Newkirk graduate. My 2 year-pld granddaughter has a higher basketball IQ.

The two of them are not tied together. Green a “pg” and I’ll use that term loosely

Candidly, IU was never really close to the bubble. Their 2nd best non-conference win was over KenPom #197 Eastern Michigan and of course they lost the IPFW and ISU games.

ALOT and I do mean ALOT had to happen but a win tonight still leave a glimpse of hope. With home games vs Purdue and Michigan State a couple of opportunities for some quality wins. There was no room for error going forward and of course that was unlikely with this team

Watch this team beats either Purdue or Michigan State now

Defensive BPM is an incredibly flawed metric that rewards players for playing out of position to get steals and blocks rather than playing sound team defense. No wonder it likes Happ so much.
Please explain how defensive BPM rewards steals and blocks?

Meh....True, to an extent. A win tonight would've put us at 13-8, 6-3. Home games still with PU, MSU and OSU. A win tonight would've went a long ways.

Season is on par to where I thought we'd be. The personnel just isn't there. And where it is "there".i.e. Johnson and Hartman(espcially RoJo) the production just hasn't been there. Very disappointing with Johnson.

I keep getting error messages about possible spam, so I'm going to post mp4's because they work.

There are limitations on all box score stats – if the box score doesn't measure a particular contribution, a box-score-based metric can only approximate that contribution. This is not a great hindrance on the offensive side, as nearly everything of importance on offense is captured by the box score (only missing things like screen-setting), but on defense the box score is quite limited. Blocks, steals, and rebounds, along with minutes and what little information offensive numbers yield about defensive performance are all that is available. Such critical components of defense as positioning, communication, and the other factors that make Kevin Garnett and Tim Duncan elite on defense can't be captured, unfortunately.

What does this mean? Box Plus/Minus is good at measuring offense and solid overall, but the defensive numbers in particular should not be considered definitive. Look at the defensive values as a guide, but don't hesitate to discount them when a player is well known as a good or bad defender.

Like all metrics, it requires a stat. If you hug your guy and he doesn't score at all, but you don't record any defensive stats, it can't measure your impact. A player that gambles for steals and blocks is rewarded because it can measure those even if the player was consistently out of position.

It was a longshot to be sure. Losing to BIG winless Illinois is a death nail however.

This certainly isn't a "historically" good IU team. Especially shooting wise. Probably the worst shooting team I've ever witnessed at IU. When you leave 14 points at the FT line, you should lose. Turn it over 18 times on top of that. We are on par to what I thought. Outside of two losses to ISU and FW, we are about where I thought we'd be. BUT....Man I really felt Johnson would have a better year. He has been really bad.

Obviously would have had to do something extreme.

Greem won't see the PG spot next year. Phinisee will be our starting PG. With Durham backing him up. Green is more of a "2". Plus Langford can play the PG position. If he comes to IU, Green will bolt.

You know what Jimmy? You ain’t half bad.
