Mike Boynton to Souf Cak.....

If South Carolina could make that happen, it would be a great move. It's his alma mater and he's underpaid at Oklahoma State. Don't know how South Carolina is looking financially. I know they just bought out Muschamp and hired a new coach. Can they afford to do it in basketball as well?

USC was irrelevant before Frank Martin, remained irrelevant with Frank Martin and will continue to be irrelevant after hes gone. This is South Carolina, making the NCAA tournament once per 10-15 years is the norm and you'd be delusional to blame it on your head coach.

They won’t be competing with what he’s making now.

What’s his salary right now? When I did a google search I saw it was around 1M. I didn’t dig deep but that won’t be enough to keep him. Obviously OSU will have a chance to raise his salary to keep him around

I think it’s somewhere around there or $1.2 or something. Thereve been rumors for most of the year even before our hot finish that he was in line for a nice raise and an extension. Don’t know the details or where SC is financially, but unless it’s some unreal number and the roster we’ll have coming back I hope we don’t lose him to money

SEC TV money is going to be tough to match. I guess we will see. You never know what a coach is thinking

He has built something in Stillwater and we hope he comes home and does the same. If he stays, God bless him and I'll root for him. If he comes home I'll be ecstatic.

He may want to keep building what he’s got going at Oklahoma State. It’s always hard to know what coaches are really thinking
He very well may and he has every right to. Ray will tug on his heart strings about building what he did at OSU here at home. End of the day, I feel like this decision will be more about passion than it does money.

It would be stupid for him to leave.
Cade Cunningham's brother was working with the Texas Titans.
Has a relationship with a lot of the young talent for the next 5 years coming out of the Metroplex.

Hard to duplicate that at S Carolina quickly.

I don't think Cade Cunningham's brother is interested in leaving there as well.

If S Carolina could get both it would be a home run deal.

Isaac Likekele going to win something big. Just different.
Like a 34 year old man talking in the body of a 20 year old.
Don't care if he plays for Oklahoma State I respect the hell out of him.
Crazy thing is Oklahoma State could be better next year even without Cade Cunningham.

They can still make noise this year.

SEC and Big Ten money talks. It's why Underwood and Martin left the Big 12. However, unless you are Boynton or in his inner circle, you don't know what's important to him.

K State is a bad job.
Underwood left because Oklahoma State wasn't going to pay him.
Underwood still to this day has NCAA questions.

I wouldn't be surprised if illinois gets hammered by the NCAA

Money talks. The mid tier teams in the Big 12 don't have as much as the SEC and Big Ten do. That's why it's harder for them to hold on to their coaches. K-State is a more successful program than South Carolina but money talked. You even said Underwood left because Illinois offered way more money.

Oklahoma State does have the ability to pay coaches.

Underwood at the time had issues at SFA and Oklahoma State.

After he left both programs were hit by the NCAA.
Underwood is one of the coaches the NCAA is after now. You go 2 for 2 they are on your ass.

Oklahoma State is a program that is already under the watchful eye of the NCAA because of past behavior

That's what you say but they already invest a lot of money in Gundy and aren't paying Boynton very much. Their inability to pay Underwood is why he's at Illinois and why Illinois is a national contender.

I noticed that in the wvugo game he missed. He was more visible coaching and cheering on the sidelines than the coaching staff. Even in timeouts the pg went to him first then to the coach.

We will see. Oklahoma State does have deep pockets.
Matters if they are willing to spend it.

don’t they have like the richest most donating booster in history in Boone Pickens. $$$ shouldn’t be a problem you wouldn’t think, suprised he only makes 1.2 mil tbh but I’m only familiar with about how much the very highest paid coaches salaries are.

1) The NCAA looked at Underwood plenty, and nothin’. I won’t even go into why that scandal not only didn’t benefit Underwood while he was there but would have done the exact opposite ... and just leave it at the facts - any smoke you conjure up about Underwood and ESPECIALLY about Illinois is nothing but your own conjecture, period. Likely some wishful thinking, too.

2) I know you’re a Big XII guy, but Underwood left for Illinois because Illinois is a better job. I’ll try to be unbiased and say it has a comparable tradition to Okie State and equally passionate fans, but it has more financial resources by itself (though Ok St has the wild card of T Boone), it has more financial resources from its conference, it has MUCH better instate recruiting, it has better facilities and it’s been proven time and time again that a good staff can be great at Illinois and consistently have teams ranked nationally/getting high NCAAT seeds/competing for conference titles/etc. (i.e., Illinois hasn’t relied on one coach to pad its numbers).

5 of the last 6 Illinois coaches have won at least one Big Ten title, and 4 of the last 6 have obtained a No. 1 seed in the NCAAs. That kind of “high ceiling” potential spread out over that many coaches is likely not seen at many other programs in the nation, and I believe it speaks to the extreme potential of the job. Oklahoma State is a great job, as well, but not quite as good as Illinois in my admittedly biased eyes. (Late) Bruce Weber and John Groce teams have been proven not to be the norm at Illinois but rather a damning indictment on those coaches’ shortcomings.

Once again no one is questioning that Illinois is a better job
What is being said is that Oklahoma State didn't really care if Underwood left or not

Two reasons.
1) They had just hired him
2) The questions about the NCAA

If Underwood hadn't had issues at SFA and didn't hire Lamont Evans who knows what Oklahoma State would have done.

Oklahoma State does have the ability to pay Boyton if need be.
Just like they had the ability to match Underwood.

Underwood left because Oklahoma State was unable to match the offer. Wasn't because they couldn't. Was because they didn't want to.
Was left in a position where he had to leave

He very well may and he has every right to. Ray will tug on his heart strings about building what he did at OSU here at home. End of the day, I feel like this decision will be more about passion than it does money.
He would be a fool to leave Oklahoma State. Sc is a very hard place to win at. However, Martin has burned bridges and most kids don’t want to play for him.

You're completely ignorant.

SFA issues weren't even related to anything within the coaching staff's control.

"Stephen F. Austin faces a series of penalties, including the vacating of games, for a lack of institutional control violation (Level I) involving the "erroneous certification" of 82 student-athletes in nine sports over the past decade, the NCAA announced Wednesday.

The NCAA said the school's violations largely stem from the certification of transfer students who had not fulfilled progress-toward-degree requirements. The report said the university relied on a former academics director to assess the academic eligibility of its athletes without including the university's academics or compliance personnel."
-ESPN

OK St. was his assistant feeding players to an NBA agent. Not really sure how a guy benefitting by getting players to go pro rather than stay at OK St. benefits Underwood. The FBI investigated the entire thing and cleared Underwood of wrongdoing, explicitly.

"Evans was not involved in the nefarious recruitment of any player who went on to Oklahoma State."
-CBS Sports

Now, I'm not naive enough to pretend like Illinois isn't playing the recruiting game, but look in the mirror. You're doing the same shit as the rest of us. This is just wishful thinking on your part. You see another program passing up your lame duck head coach, and it eats at you.

Seems like a move to wreck your career tbh. He should stay unless a better (or at least a good) job opens up if he wants to leave.

As a USC grad and fan there is a high risk high reward. Go to the tourney more often than not and you are a hero. He would be a great hire as he (or anyone) can recruit better than Frank Martin.

Oh, I think he would be a good hire as well from South Carolina's perspective.

If they want to improve the program and watch good basketball, they should just stick with Frank Martin 'cause they aint going to find a better replacement.
