They finished 4th in the dogshit PAC12. No one gives a shit about conference tournaments.
I don't think they were favored in either games despite Carolina being a higher seed over Oregon.

That is literally the basic truth of basketball and March madness. Teams either struggle or succeed and chug along all season. But the END of the season is what matters. No one cares that Kansas beat good teams 4 months ago. They suck now.

No one cares about how you think this should work. I'm telling you how it DOES work. And you can't comprehend it. They look at the entire body of work. There’s a reason they play 30+ games. The committee doesn't make arbitrary judgments about how teams have been playing during an arbitrary timeframe.
