Gents, it's October. The start of the college basketball season is just around the corner. Looking for 10+ posters who are interested in participating in a college basketball draft. This will be the third year doing this. Here are the results from the 2018 and 2017 drafts. I have been using a scoring method which I think isn't too complicated. It's a combination of win shares and a points system derived from postseason accolades. Here is the point system I would like to use for the upcoming season:

10 points- National Player of the Year (AP for All-American Teams)
9 points- 1st Team All-American
8 points- 2nd Team All-American
7 points- 3rd Team All-American; NABC Defensive POY
6 points- Honorable Mention All-American; Final Four MOP
5 points- Conference Player of the Year; All Tournament Team
4 points- 1st Team All-Conference; Conference Defensive POY; NCAA Regional MOP
3 points- 2nd Team All-Conference; All Regional Team
2 points- 3rd Team All-Conference; All-Conference Defense; Conference Tournament MOP
1 point- Honorable Mention All-Conference; All Tournament Team

Tagging some posters from previous drafts. And a few others who I think might be interested. Who's in?

Also, might be good to have updates on notable players that might not be playing this season - or out for some time. Here's what I know so far.

Brandon Willimas, Arizona- Out for season
Wynston Tabbs, Boston College- Out for season
Clyde Trapp, Clemson- Out for season
Jordan Bohannon, Iowa- Out indefinitely with hip injury. Likely to redshirt
Mario Kegler, Baylor- Suspended and subsequently left school to turn pro
Malik Williams, Louisville- Broken foot. Likely to miss first month
Yoeli Childs, BYU- Suspended for 9 games
Bryan Antoine, Villanova- Shoulder injury. Out until at least December

Any others key contributors that I'm forgetting?

Also, forgot one other key thing.

The draft is 10 rounds. For team scoring, we'll allow you to lock in on eight players. You have until the end of December to set your 8-man lineup. This is a nice grace period that allows you to see if your 9th and 10th round picks are pleasant surprises - or if there are injuries along the way that force you to use someone else.

Based on my track record where I picked Tremont Waters with #2 overall pick last year I'm sure I'll end up taking Javonte Smart or some other player who should go 5 rounds later.

Waters wasn't a bad pick at all, IMO. He was an Honorable Mention All-American. It could be worse. Much worse, actually. Two years ago we had Michael Porter and Bonzie Colson go 1-2 in the draft. Those two combined to play like 20 games that year.

I'm open to modifying the scoring system if anyone has any input. I'm thinking we might need to tweak how mid-majors are scored, so people don't load up on 10 guys from non-power schools. Seemed like it took a good week to get 10 guys last year.

I like your idea of nerfing the mid majors a bit. It will force us to pick more players from big conferences which will in turn give us more chances to actually see our guys in action this year. Last year I had a bunch of guys I never saw all season.

I support this.

I support this.

K. So the regular scoring would be:

5 points for Conference POY
4 points for 1st Team All-Conference
3 points for 2nd Team
2 points for 3rd Team
1 point for HM

I think it's fair to lower that point total by a single point. So the scoring for mid-majors will look like this (We'll allow the AAC to count as a power conference):

4 points for Conference POY
3 points for 1st Team All-Conference
2 points for 2nd Team All-Conference
1 point for 3rd Team All-Conference

Plus, we also have to factor in that win shares will hurt most mid-majors, since these guys with 20+ ppg often play for sub-par teams. And these guys aren't likely to make an All-American team. Maybe Jordan Ford, Sam Merrill, Gonzaga guys, and Bryce Aiken. That's about it. Mid-majors can still be useful players, but this minimizes the need to draft them in the early rounds.

If they're HM All-American or higher they would still receive the same amount of points.

I’ll do it again, why not. I agree with the lowered score for mid majors. I might even take off 3rd team all conference for midmajors because the depth of those conferences just isn’t as strong. Just do POY, 1st team, 2nd team, all defense team.

I'd do a college basketball draft if we used Draft Kings scoring and limited it to P5 teams. For the life of me I can't get behind using Win Shares.

Oh well, not my league not my rules!

I am interested...entrance fee?

No entrance fee. Just doing it for fun.

I'm open to modifying the scoring system if others are on aboard. Give us a rundown of how this would work.

I like the the two-tier scoring method. It's essentially capped at 10 points for win shares and 10 points for postseason awards.

I'd be cool with that. Would make it an interesting gamble to go for a Gonzaga player that might be an All-American candidate - or just another all-conference player.

Scoring
Points: 1
Rebounds: 1.25
Assists: 1.5
Blocks: 2
Steals: 2

Pretty basic.

We could either enter them in a league on Fantrax so they get tallied season-long or you could do them manually but that might be a P.I.T.A.

I don't know how you'd tie that into the other scoring. Maybe award points by standings.

Either way. Not too complicated. I created a league. Doesn't mean we have to do it that way. What do you guys think? I also included turnovers on there.

Let me know system you guys would prefer to use. We could also just use the power 6 conferences here + the American Athletic conference and maybe a select few mid-majors. I'm open to what the majority thinks.

I enjoyed doing this last year but I'm gonna pass this year. Someone else can have my spot. Good luck!

It's probably best you just run it your way and not me confuse things. You know what you're doing.

Haven't seen anyone respond about wanting to use Draft Kings scoring. Any interest in playing with the system we've had the past two years?

Also, I was told that if you tag a bunch of people some may not receive a notification. So, here's for tagging people again. Apologies if you've already been notified.

I don't want to do any system that requires us to do more work than we did last year in terms of having to do stuff every week.

I'll give it a shot. Sounds interesting. I'm good with either method. Just let me know so I can start poring over the Iowa roster and figure out which 4 players to draft.

Jesus Christ Gil Iowa is a bottom half Big Ten program get over yourself.

lol nice.

I think we'll probably go with the original scoring system since no one has really responded to Draft Kings. So it will be win shares + postseason accolades. We're going to reduce the postseason award points for guys that play in the mid-major conferences (3 points for Conference POY, 2 for 1st Team, 1 for 2nd Team).

Hoping to get at least 2 more posters before the end of the week. Sdsufan hasn't been active in two weeks. Hoping to hear from him soon. Right now, here's what the draft order might be (last year we went in reverse alphabetical order).

Odd Rounds

lol what are you trying to quit?
It's just an auto response to stuff I'm not interested/afford/no good at. "Would you like a free sample?" I'm trying to quit, "would you like a bag for that"....It immediately makes ppl stop asking/selling due to processing.

*Thanks though, I appreciate all you do for this forum. I was just talking to another poster last night about how great you are. You add a great deal.

pretty easy, draft the four who are top 50 players nationally.
