I remember a few years ago on this board, it was one of the biggest talking points about Duke. I am certain quite a few UK guys were ragging on K for playing too many neutral site games.
That said, I do kind of wish we would do some home and homes with more programs.
I was one for sure.
I still am a Coach K detractor because I know why he does it he is a chicken. Cal also likes the neutral sites because it is like the tourney and for sure it is easier to beat Duke, Michigan State, North Carolina or Kansas in Indy than on their home court. So Cal is also a chicken and wants neutral site games.
However, the big difference is that even chicken Cal will schedule home and home with UNC and Kansas and UCLA and others. Duke simply will not do it with any good program. They may schedule one with a St. Johns or some mid-level program, but not a good one.
Also the arguments above about the neutral site bringing in more revenue is really questionable. In what venue will Kentucky play that would generate more revenue for Kentucky than a home game in Rupp? The ticket prices for UK home tickets are cheap compared to what the season ticket holder are required to pay the athletic department simply for the right to be a season ticket holder. So, I simply can't think of a neutral site that would produce UK more revenue than a home game. I would prefer UK to schedule a bunch of home and home games with good programs simply to justify the high cost of UK season tickets.
On the other hand, Duke plays in Cameron and it is small. Therefore, any neutral site would be a big gain in revenue; however, Duke is private and need not worry about a few million. Additionally, Coach K simply has put down the marker for decades that he will not play ooc games on a home and home basis with any decent team.
Cal can play most folks on a neutral site and so can Coach K. They are chickens; however, Coach K is an even bigger chicken because he will not do a decent home and home.
