Can we talk a little bit about LSU?

Haha, Greenberg. He has a very nice way of stating opinions as facts. I don't claim to be an expert on this rule, certainly I wouldn't expect a ref to call it if the ball isn't anywhere near the goal. But the ball was directly above Montgomery's hand, albeit a good 2 feet or so. I don't think it could have altered the shot, but I don't know how you interpret no touching the basket when the ball is within the basket. If it said within the cylinder, that would be pretty clear. But the rules don't specify.
It looks like a good basket to me.

LOL not quite, I'll be batting 1000 after we finish you guys off. We'll call it the orange crush....
Go to bed tonight and dream about that cause we are skinning cats on Saturday. How long has it been since UK has lost back to back at Rupp?

How anyone can say that should have counted as a basketball is ******ed. The ball clearly was within the cylinder when touched...
Didn't look that way to me and if I thought it did, I'd agree with you.

Art. 2. Basket interference

2. Touches the ball while any part of it is within the cylinder that has the ring as its lower base;

b. The cylinder is the imaginary geometric figure that has the ring as its base and is formed by the upward extension of that ring.

It looks like a good basket to me.

The ball wasn't on the rim, but it was definitely within the cylinder. Watching it live I felt that way, but it's more apparent from an aerial view. Any touching of the basketball within the vertical cylinder shaped by the rim should be classified as interference.

Maybe they didn’t call it because they also saw the Uk player’s hand go threw the net on the first shot.

Above the rim is not the angle to look at it my opinion. The side angle would be optimum IMO.

lol wow. Okay, we need to take a timeout to review basket interference:

b. The cylinder is the imaginary geometric figure that has the ring as its base and is formed by the upward extension of that ring.

Special emphasis on that upward extension. The aerial view is easily the best view to capture a basket interference. Imagine the rim is already encapsulated inside a cylinder. It would kinda look like this:

Anytime the ball is touched within the cylinder (see imaginary lines), basket interference should be called. The ball was clearly touched by Bigby-Williams while it was still in the cylinder. Once it's outside of those imaginary lines, it's free game.

I don't believe we've lost 2 in a row with Cal... a few times with Billy G. We've lost 9 games in the last 10 yrs at Rupp.

Smokey doesn't want any part of these cats...

Which you could argue that, that could have been defensive goal tending. Which is a totally different argument, and one that I'm not trying to argue. That said, I highly doubt the refs were thinking at the time "well I'm not going to call offensive goal tending since I didn't call the defensive goal tending". o_O

Every sports pundit on all sports shows this morning are beating these two calls to death. One thing they all agreed upon, his hand was out of basket before ball was on rim or backboard.
The goaltending missed call is a guess unless the ref was directly under the basket looking up through the goal. From a side angle, it looked like the ball was out of cylinder, only from a top view, did it show it wasn't. Tough call. Reviewing all these calls have slowed the game down and is unbearable to watch at times. Review them all, or none

That particular call they can't review. They could only review if the ball was tapped before time expired.

How high do those lines go above the rim?

It is refreshing to see a UK fan that likes to bring it and doesn't get all upset.
I look forward to our game, but more concerned with SCAR now. We need to be ready for them so your Tuesday night doesn't happen to us.

They play hard, but are not very talented. UT will roll over them. I've learned that basketball is a hobby for fun not a lifestyle. I love my cats, but I don't go on tilt when they lose. On to the next game!

This is why I ask if you are new to basketball! If you can’t see that ball was in the cylinder then clearly your hatred for UK is clouding your eyesight!

I was pulling for UK Scotty...

Yea I get that but are you really gonna say that from the pics posted in this thread you can’t tell the ball was in the cylinder when the LSU player touched it?

Cute rebuttal, but the answer is correct. No one in their right mind after seeing the pics can say the ball wasn't in the cylinder. And your hatred of all things UK (which is cool by me) won't allow you to acknowledge the fact that it is true...

well, a week ago they looked like an NIT team. Same goes for back in November and early December. They're the 5th youngest team in the country, not really surprising that they have been inconsistent all season.

Just hoping the KY game gives them the confidence/swagger to build on that and continue playing well the rest of the season. IF they do that, they certainly have top 10 talent. If they blow a few games they'll continue to float around the edges of the top 20 and end up being one of those teams that can either go out in round 1 or make a run all the way to the elite 8 and maybe beyond.

Looks like they are going to be discussing and adding review on game ending baskets like the UK/LSU debacle. A shame we had to lose due to incompetent rules, but it seems like UK/LSU are headed for a SECT showdown anyway so you can be sure we're not going to be gentle about it. We'll make some t shirts that say "The Tip" too after we go in dry on em.
