Can we talk a little bit about LSU?

that was amazing! Played like complete dog crap for 38 minutes and then finally woke up and somehow battled back. 5th youngest team in NCAA, they showed a lot of fight and heart at the end of this one....after not showing any of it for most of the game.

Definitely a great comeback. Crazy they were down so much in the first place against a pretty average Missouri team.

LSU is obviously talented but it’s hard to tell how good they really are. I’m not sure they have a win over an at-large team on the season.

That was the 2nd worst shooting performance of the year and they were really flat. Lots of teams should look at this game for motivation. I mean they were down 70-56 with 2:08 to play and go on a 15-1 run to tie it and go into OT. Had pretty much conceeded the loss but they have character my friend.

10 in a row baby

And yet it’s still hard to tell exactly how good y’all are. Do you have a win over a probable at-large team?

It’s not really y’alls fault. Can only play who’s on your schedule. But dang I can’t fathom playing 7 or 8 straight conference games and not playing a sure-fire at large team.

They really should have beaten FSU and Houston. Had leads in both and had UH by 15 before letting them come back and led FSU the whole game and lost in the last minute.

I had posted awhile back that our schedule was very kind in this stretch and that they could go 9-0 . It's not easy to win on the road against any SEC team and they have done well against the lower teer SEC.

That's a done deal and now it's showtime ! After Sat against Arky you will get your wish. They play AU,UF,UK and UT all in the next few weeks so sit back and enjoy.

I don’t know about “should” have beaten. Basketball is a game of runs—teams making a push at the end is pretty common. Gotta bring it for the full 40 minutes, or in some cases 45. Having said that, yes, both the Houston and FSU games were competitive, hard faught games that seemed to feature teams that were all pretty even.

You’re spot on about conference road games always being tricky, regardless of opponent (well, maybe not Vandy). And I did notice that the schedule is about to pick up. I’ll be looking forward to watching some of those games for sure. Just wish LSU played teams like Tennessee and Kentucky more than once.

There’s only so many good teams in the SEC, it would be great to see them face off twice. I’m just speaking from a standpoint of enjoying watching fun basketball games.

LSU needs to stop playing games on the SEC Network. I haven't seen them play since the week of the Houston and Saint Mary's games.

LSU actually has a very advantageous schedule. They play Tennessee, Kentucky, Auburn, Ole Miss, and Miss State one time each. Hard to imagine UT not winning the SEC, but if LSU is able to take care of business at home, they could make things very interesting.

what an amazing game for Tremont. At the same time what a horse crap game for pretty much everyone else except #22 and #24 who were both monsters on the boards.

But, much like the Mizzou game it's a good sign when you can pull out wins on the road when you aren't playing well. But, the flipside of that coin is that you'd prefer that the team wins by playing well.

Really looking forward to the schedule picking up and seeing how these guys do vs the big boys.

One thing I picked up on in the game and I'm starting to notice more is what a character/goofball #1 Smart is. Not in a bad way, he's just a really funny, goofy kid. At the start of the 2nd half he was bunched up with his man and right behind Tremont and Starks (TAMU player) and right before the inbounds he reached over and gave Starks several taps on his hip trying to get his attention like he was a teammate. Starks turned around and you could see him get mad and say "WTF are you doing?"

Then at the end of the game Tremont got a little mad at him on a play. A few minutes later when Tremont came out of the game Smart wrapped him up in a boa constrictor bear hug and held on for a very long time. Even Emmett Williams joined in the hug. I laughed.

I get the SEC network on Directv so I'm fine, but I think they have some ESPN games coming up soon. My blindspot is the ACC network which is coming to DTV next year. Already missed a couple good games because of it. Also don't have PAC12 network, but no fvcks were given about that.

Seems like a good teammate to have! Teams play better, in my opinion, when the players get along on and off the court... Anytime I hear about TJ Starks, I always think about the headline of this article from the Houston Chronicle:

Texas A&M guard T.J. Starks can't be stopped - just ask him

I have the Big Ten Network, and I'll certainly pickup the ACC Network if there's an added fee. Seems like most of the Tennessee/Kentucky games are on ESPN, so I figured I didn't really need the SEC Network this year... And the Pac-12 Network, well, I can't imagine myself wanting that anytime soon.

SEC network is worth it. There's usually at least a few interesting games that are on it each week. This Saturday you get Ole Miss vs Miss St. plus Arkansas at LSU.

FWIW, Sling offers SEC Net, ACC Net (I watched Cuse/BC on it last night--wow did Tyus Battle put on a show), and all the PAC 12 Networks, plus the ESPNs. All you have to do is get the $4.99 sports extra package.

How is the streaming? And what about DVR capabilities?

That was pretty funny and yes I saw each of those as well. He's a good player and not as good a defender as Tremont. He tries to bring it inside when nothing is there to often and either gets a charge or loses it. Time will be his friend but it's just growing through those Fr. things that lots of other teams have to deal with as well.

This isn't a case where you play the same schools that are in your division twice. The SEC doesn't have divisions in basketball. LSU plays Alabama, Arkansas, Georgia, Texas A&M, and Florida twice. Everyone else they place once.

yea, I'm trying to be very patient with him. I agree that its a youth thing with him and he will be really good eventually. Problem is we need him to be good now. He's still on the routine where 2 out of every 3 decisions with the ball are bad/questionable. Drives into traffic with no plan way too often. I really like him most as a catch and shoot 3 point guy for now.

Well kinda. They play every team in the West twice. After that it's a crap shoot of East teams and yes they play UGA and UF twice and the rest of the East once.

What are you talking about? There are 18 league games and I just posted their schedule. There are no divisions in basketball. And they aren't playing Ole Miss, Miss State, or Auburn twice.

Dang...only 3 games on TV the rest of the way!?! Or does that not show CBS/Fos sports? Even still, bet they aren't on CBS much.

Goodness. I can't fathom that. I can see pretty much every ACC game I want on TV.

Umm...LSU's schedule is in this thread. They don't play Auburn twice, they don't play Mississippi State twice, and they don't play Ole Miss twice.

Thankfully the other 8 games will either be on ESPN 2 or ESPNU. Not sure why that wasn't listed, because I took the screenshot straight from ESPN's page. Seems like you would want to advertise your own company.

And I really do think the schedule is significant. Most would agree that Tennessee is the team to beat in the SEC. If you look at the models from Bart Torvik, he has UT going 15-3, LSU at 14-4, and Kentucky at 13-5. What's crazy, though, is Tennessee is predicted to beat LSU on the road by 1 point. So that game in Baton Rouge against Tennessee could very well determine the outcome of the SEC Regular Season Title. If it was a Round Robin, I really don't think UT would have much trouble taking it by 1 or 2 games... And certainly I wouldn't rule out Kentucky, either. Should be a fun to watch these teams down the stretch.

My bad I'm so used to the old schedule before they switched to one division.

There is no official "ACC" network until next year.

At the moment it is like the old Raycom network where it take a local station to carry the games.

The ACC is about a decade behind the B!G and SEC. Eyeroll

But I don't worry about catching my Kentucky games. I have ever damned one on video since 1991. Folks are always telling me that it does not matter what following a team has. I say bullshit. I have missed 7 UK games since 1963.

Not really. There is an ACC Network that is digital only. It can be streamed on sling. I know this because I watch games on it all the time. It’s basically an ACC version of ESPN 3. You can watch soccer, women’s basketball, men’s basketball, lacrosse, and others.

ESPN essentially committed to getting a camera at hundreds of ACC events and streaming it online on their own espn 3 type platform.

Starting in August, it will be an actual channel like SEC Net.

I understand what you are saying. But ESPN3 is not a channel or a network. The SEC Network is also streamed. That is the big difference that I like to point out.

I have all the Kentucky games, save one, from 1986 to date. No other school can match that or even come close. For decades we had the UK network that telecast all UK games that the networks did not pick up (Additionally they were available throughout North America). That is why when they made the SEC Network they had to continue to carry the preseason Kentucky games and specials like Big Blue Madness.

Find me a Duke fan who has all Duke games on video but one since 1986. Find me a UNC fan who has all UNC games on video but one since 1986. Don't try too hard because all Duke and UNC games have not been telecast.

I know that posts like mine piss people off because they are jealous of UK's market power but that is the was it is. Plus I can prove my brag as I have over 1,400 Kentucky games on video tape, DVD and bluray. That is my hobby.

All I’m saying (and this was to help some other posters find access to games. It wasn’t to brag) is that there already exists a quasi ACC network. You can go look at the schedules listed on ESPN for FSU or most other ACC teams and there will be some games that say “ACC NET” next to them.

Sounds like you have quite the collection. How often do you watch old games?

Often.

NBC created a vacuum in the old games. They transmitted them and then destroyed the master tapes. Some of the games that you see on ESPN classic are the ones that I, and other idiots like me, recorded. I know because I know the ghost patterns for some of the stations I had to watch before the advent of satellite. TV stations with the same numbers are never close to each other because the frequencies will cancel out each other. So I know my tapes.

One classic game that I have is the 1975 game between Indiana and Kentucky. NBC destroyed the video tape before the advent of home video tape recorders. But I have a good friend, named Joe B. Hall, who gave me the UK scouting film. I have a good friend in San Antonio, Tx who married the film to Cawood Ledford’s call of the game that his father recorded on a cassette tape.

This last summer, I sent that DVD to Joe Hall and he told me he watched it 10 times. Joe just turned 90 and he appreciated getting to see one of his biggest wins.

I bought my first video tape recorder in late 1977. I had to borrow money to come up with the $1,400 and the tapes were $30.00 for a two-hour game. I was a young man raising kids, so $30.00 was a big hit. Anyway, the FSU game versus Kentucky where Dick Enberg says “Kentucky showing why they are number one” that you see on ESPN Classic was my recording. I don’t know how ESPN got it, but I have given away many, many copies of a lot of good games to get copies of the ones that I did not get originally.

I am one of those stupid guys who records the football playoffs. My biggest prize in football is the Alabama versus Georgia game in last years national championship game. A great game against two SEC teams.

Im just glad we've got LSU here this year. Even when we have a great team and they are average, we always squeak out wins at the PMAC. It could very easily be a L this year for us down there.

Without looking, Id guess for road venues with worst win % for UK in the SEC.....Alabama is #1 (I believe i know that to be true) and then Id guess Florida or LSU is #2, Tennessee #3 perhaps? Not being a jerk, but frankly we just dont lose to these schools very often, period.

According to our good buddy Jon Scott it is as I expected. Alabama, LSU and Tennessee we are just a few games over .500 at, as far as arenas where we have played enough games of consequence. For example, we are 4-4 at Colonial Life but that is a marginal sample size. 3-2 at Auburn Arena. 7-6 at Arkansas. If we include data from those schools previous arena then it quickly becomes severely lopsided in Kentucky's favor. So in the interest of tipping our hat to schools who have played us at their current arena enough times to actually pat themselves on the back for being just under .500 v us, that goes to Bama LSU and UT.
