Can we talk a little bit about LSU?

Often.

NBC created a vacuum in the old games. They transmitted them and then destroyed the master tapes. Some of the games that you see on ESPN classic are the ones that I, and other idiots like me, recorded. I know because I know the ghost patterns for some of the stations I had to watch before the advent of satellite. TV stations with the same numbers are never close to each other because the frequencies will cancel out each other. So I know my tapes.

One classic game that I have is the 1975 game between Indiana and Kentucky. NBC destroyed the video tape before the advent of home video tape recorders. But I have a good friend, named Joe B. Hall, who gave me the UK scouting film. I have a good friend in San Antonio, Tx who married the film to Cawood Ledford’s call of the game that his father recorded on a cassette tape.

This last summer, I sent that DVD to Joe Hall and he told me he watched it 10 times. Joe just turned 90 and he appreciated getting to see one of his biggest wins.

I bought my first video tape recorder in late 1977. I had to borrow money to come up with the $1,400 and the tapes were $30.00 for a two-hour game. I was a young man raising kids, so $30.00 was a big hit. Anyway, the FSU game versus Kentucky where Dick Enberg says “Kentucky showing why they are number one” that you see on ESPN Classic was my recording. I don’t know how ESPN got it, but I have given away many, many copies of a lot of good games to get copies of the ones that I did not get originally.

I am one of those stupid guys who records the football playoffs. My biggest prize in football is the Alabama versus Georgia game in last years national championship game. A great game against two SEC teams.

You’re good friends with Joe B. Hall?

Love my guy Tremont, but he absolutely cost LSU the game Saturday night. That alley oop attempt with 20-30 seconds left in the game was one of the dumber decisions I've seen this year from a college basketball player.

It wasn't good but they just aren't playing with the intensity that they were before. These last few games defensively have been very poor along with their shooting.

You can't wait until 9 minutes left down by 18 to realize it's time to start playing ball. They pretty much got what they deserved and now it's showtime. Lets see what they got right ?

yep and that's 2 games in a row where they've played like total dog crap. Aside from Tremont, who is the only reason they won the TAMU game. But, he joined the rest of his teammates in the Arkansas game in terms of playing awful.

Picked the wrong time of the year to hit a slump, their schedule is pretty rough now.

Yes indeed you nailed it. AU is 1st and it's at home so they can win that game if they show up and turn the intensity up early but they can't afford to get behind or it's over.

UK at Rupp is going to be hard and I'm going to chalk that one up as a loss the way they are playing right now. Told some guys on the MB early that UK would gel by mid season and would be back from that dismal start and they are doing just that. May be playing better than anyone right now.

UT at home is a toss up Imo and they can stun them if they play lights out. UT is very good and could over-come the PMAC crowd which will be very vocal that day even at 11:00 AM. Got this one going to OT and not sure who takes it but should be a great game to watch.

Finally got to see LSU play again. Fun game to watch. Waters was clutch down the stretch. Would be nice to see them mix it up a bit with Tennessee and Kentucky - make that SEC Title a little more interesting with three players.

Yes Waters again however, Reid really stepped his game up. Still to many turnovers and forced plays in traffic and missed easy shots under the goal. LSU pretty much stole this one in OT.

Those turnovers and out of control play you speak of seems like a team ripe for a second round loss. LSU is super talented, but Will Wade has got to get them more consistent. Not even from game to game, even just half to half.

great win last night, but as others have said still not a great overall performance for LSU. It was all Tremont and Smart in the 1st half and then Tremont and Naz in the 2nd half and OT.

Even though they didn't play great they once again showed a lot of fortitude for such a young team to win on the road like that.

The gauntlet continues Saturday with Auburn and what should be an electrifying battle between Waters and Harper. One of the better games on the schedule Saturday.

Yes, when they play good teams they won't be able to make those points up. Hell MSU scored every time for about 15 trips so they were fortunate to make it up against them.

I hope LSU's win last night left Miss St dejected....maybe that'll make things a bit easier for UK to win @Starkville on Saturday.
They are going to be hungry and need a win bad to stay in the race. Unfortunately for them they have problems stopping the bigs and it won't be any different for them Sat.

Witherspoon brothers are very solid and can shoot. UK will be able to score in the post and get offensive rebounds which could doom MSU unless they get some lucky bounces and help from the refs.

How are you guys feeling about the game coming up at Rupp? I expect a war. Tough week for us next week with you guys and Tennessee both coming to Lex.

Think if we come out of there with a win I'm going straight to the casino. That's the toughest game for LSU and nobody has beat LSU bad when Reid is playing and on his game. I got UK by 5 in this one but hope I'm wrong.

Gonna be a war tomorrow night. Hagans getting a humongous task in trying to defend Waters.

Excited to watch this one for sure. What channel?

Been waiting for LSU to play one of the top tier teams in the SEC. Sucks they only play UK and Tennessee once each.

Only seen one PG really shut Tremont down and that was Davis from Houston who is a tremendous defensive player.

If UK makes their 3's it's going to be hard for LSU. If LSU can get a good lead they have a chance but don't see them making a run on UK like they have in the past. Should be a really good game if the Tigers come with their A game.

Hmm. I'd say having 11 points and 6 turnovers with an O-rating of 79 is getting shut down. That was back when Trent Forrest was healthy though.

that was also when Tremont was playing like crap and ended up getting removed from the starting lineup as a result. He did a 180 on his season mid December and has been playing like an AA since.

So it doesn’t count then? His crap play had nothing to do with the opponents?

if he had one bad game in a string of good games I would chalk that up to the opponent. But, when an AA caliber player has a string of several bad games early in the year and ends up getting benched as a result I'm going to chalk that up to the AA playing like shit as opposed to a random string of several opponents all successfully D'ing up said AA caliber player, especially when he breaks out of the slump and goes back to playing at a high AA level.

So the 11 assist outing (against just 3 turnovers) he had the game before is also bad play? And the 21 and 10 he had a couple games before that was bad play?

yes, the 5 game stretch from Memphis game through OKST game where he shot 35% on 14/49 shooting (5/24 20% from 3) he played like dog crap. Got benched as a result. Also had some of his highest turnover games during that stretch.

But yes, he did manage to get 11 assists vs Charleston during that stretch. Played like crap that game as well. Shot poorly and only had 1 steal.

Great week of basketball for LSU! Seems like a good chunk of people are thinking the SEC is a two team race between Tennessee/Kentucky, but LSU has a legit shot at the regular season title, too. Excited to see the 2 big SEC matchups this week.
