Agent Zero Makes Harsh Allegations About One of the Top ACC Schools

You don't think there are consequences for accusing a program of a crime if you don't have proof? Slandering a program could easily land you in civil court.
He didn't allege that Duke paid anybody. It reads more like he is alleging that players were paid to attend Duke. Those are two very different things. Doesn't really sound like the type of thing a person could sue over, but I'm not a lawyer by any means.

Heavy speculation that Nike has paid players to attend Duke from a different source (albeit an unreliable one - Avenatti). Perhaps Arenas is corroborating? That is an assumption.

I can see the argument for what Dude said. It’s tough to tell though because of how it was worded.

I do tend to agree with you though. His last sentence implies that Duke guys are getting paid so it’s more plausible that he meant “why would a player go to Duke over Kentucky unless they are getting money?”

I hope he tweets out some clarification. Anything will do.

It wouldn't make sense for him to say that (not that we can assume that he's using sense). There are plenty of reasons to choose Duke. K being number one.

All he's saying is that top players aren't playing at Duke for free.

Duke's new player dorms... still under construction

I think he holds a grudge against Duke. It’s not the first time he’s gone after them specifically. I remember when he said he could score 80 on Duke if he had the chance. That 2001 title game must have really done a number on him.

"You don't think there are consequences for accusing a program of a crime if you don't have proof?"

There are no consequences to this, and you just assumed he has no proof.

I'll bet you whatever you want that Arenas never sees a day in court over this.
Hell of a reach there. I clearly did not assume he didn't have proof. I made a simple statement that I hoped he had proof. Or he better have proof. Zero assumptions made and I never even claimed that he wasn't telling the truth. You're being a little silly here.

Yeah, you're probably right. These conversations are just a regurgitation of previous conversations. Either way, until they provide proof, its just rinse and repeat. Everyone is going to believe what they want to believe. I'll let phill bicker till the end, I am uninterested.

You better have proof that I'm being silly. That's a hell of an accusation.

Back around 2009, Gilbert Arenas was a weekly topic on PTI and Around the Horn. Good to see that he’s still making news for things that happen off the court. Always one of my favorites.

Challenging a guy to a gun battle in the locker room who was later charged (?) with murder was a genius plan of his.

That's not what he said at all, so I'm not sure why you'd put quotation marks around your own thoughts.

He actually said he's not sure why a player would go to Duke over UK unless they're getting paid.

No, that is most assuredly not what he said. He said "Do you think that players are going to Duke without being paid over Kentucky."

The implication there can easily be seen as "Do you think that players are going to Duke without being paid over Kentucky, where they ARE being paid."

Otherwise the entire concept makes no sense.... what, you think he is saying that the only reason someone would pick Duke over Kentucky is because they are getting paid? Thats obviously silly... there are a million reasons a kid might pick Duke over Kentucky if the money thing isn't part of it, and Gilbert Arenas knows that.

And if you think that Duke pays players but Cal and UK don't... man, that's pretty desperate stuff, especially as a fan of one of the shadiest coaches in the biz who is also famous for being one of the absolute top recruiters in history.

He just said what everyone else thinks already. Who would choose Duke over Kentucky given an even playing field? ;)

Right? Who would pick going to one of the top schools in the world, on one of the most beautiful campuses in the world, to rub elbows with the future leaders and CEOs of the world, while being coached by maybe the best coach in the history of the game at some of the best facilities in the world (all paid for by the top shoe company in the world, who named one of the biggest buildings on their campus after the aforementioned coach?) over... going to the Kentucky state school?

;)

I'm not sure, but I think a couple of these guys were recruited by Duke too. Makes me wonder why they WOULDN'T go to Duke when you put it that way. Those things may not seem that important to a kid with dreams though these days.

All of those things sound great, but this is some pretty good stuff here on the recruiting trail too. Who knows what inspires these kids today?!

It REALLY makes you wonder why they wouldn't go to Duke if they were getting offered 200k. It's almost as if....

Being capable of choosing common sense deductions over childish, emotional response feels great, man. Thanks for asking.

any intelligent person bases "common sense deductions" on at least some fact and/or proof
unintelligent people base their deductions on what they want something to be which is childish and emotional

which do you base your deductions on, actual facts or just what you want it to be?

Sure... and if I recall correctly, nearly every player Duke has landed in the last five years was also recruited by Kentucky, right? Duke has more Top 5 all time recruits than UK, K has twice as many Top 3 picks than Cal and five times as many titles, Duke has more all-time McDonalds All Americans than UK, Duke has more lottery picks all time than UK, Duke has more than twice as many followers on social media than UK, and more people watch Duke than Kentucky on TV...

You realize, just as I do, that there are a million reasons a kid would pick Duke over Kentucky that have nothing to do with getting paid, same as there are a million reasons a kid would pick Kentucky over Duke. You never know what will appeal to a kid, be it future teammates or campuses or facilities or connections with the coaching staff or any number of things.

But I don't think you are one of the Raftards who thinks that the ONLY reason a player would ever pick Duke over Kentucky is because of payments, right?

All of that is great for ANY student-athlete. What, you think basketball players don't care about stuff like that? Of course they do:)

And yeah, former players know... #TheBrotherhood

Correct.

My assumptions (which match those of everyone but the fans of a few programs--funny how that works) are based on facts.

It's a fact that Merl Code and Gassnola pointed the finger at Kentucky. It's a fact that Bam's name was listed on an agency's financial spreadsheet. It's a fact that no one has landed more highly ranked recruits than Kentucky in the Calipari era. It's a fact that the college basketball recruiting landscape is and has nearly always been dirty.

These and other facts are the basis for the assumption. Any other questions?

Did someone really rank it #4?

There was a hell of a lot of partying when I was there.
I believe Playboy did in like 1999 or 2000. Some of the frat houses would always post the party rankings on their bulletin boards by the front door. KU was consistently top 10-15 during my time there. I mean, it's all a bullshit ranking but it was always a fun thing to promote when you were that age.

Now the school is known for offensive microagressions and for trying to boycott Chik Fil A from being on campus because it doesn't help create a safe space. WTF happened? I haven't been there since 2014 but I want to soon. I would move there in a second if there was reliable oil production in the area.
