sorry for the book, that was just eery our experiences were so similar.

I kept it to team sports bc i felt that was the “fairest way to do it” for lack of a better word.

Hard to compare individual sports with teams sports imo, not that its any easier comparing across different team sports.

You find a more GOAT stat than this I’d love to hear it. The NHL waived the waiting period and immediately inducted him into the HoF and his jersey was retired league wide.

142

Consecutive cut streak between 1998 and 2005, breaking the old mark of Byron Nelson’s 113.

For context, here is the all time leaders list and active streaks. Jordan Spieth leads with 15. The current World #1 golfer John Rahm has a steak of 6.

Fine use this one:

From 1997 through 2008, Woods was a combined 126 under par in majors. There are 138 other players who played at least 40 rounds in major championships in that span. Among that group, Woods was a staggering 189 shots better than anyone else. Second on the list: Joe Ogilvie, at 63 over.

1st: Woods -127
2nd: Ogilbvie +63

Just pure dominance.

Phil Mickelson and Rory McIlroy are the 2nd and 3rd best golfers of the century. Phil’s career long cut streak is 18 and Rory’s is 25.

Woods is 142.

Oh im not trying to downplay how impressive that is bc i dont even golf so i cant even comprehend it.

And im def not trying to downplay the greatness of tiger woods.

I was just playing devils advocate on the # of tourneys. Idk how many years Jacks 105 streak or whatever encompassed i dont even know what years he played golf i just knew he was considered the best before tiger and still holds a few records in his own right iirc.

But again im not saying jack>tiger, and my opinion is basically worthless anyways bc im a casual fan at best.

Just showing that two elite golfers (Phil and Rory) playing in the same era as Woods have career best streaks of 18 and 25. The streak was probably harder in Woods era than Jacks even with more tournaments.

Both stats are obviously incredible. Not saying Woods’ stat is more impressive that Gretzky’s but it’s one of the few that could even be in that realm. I made a poll on tMB. Will be curious to see the results.

Great point, it could def be argued both ways, that playing every weekend would make it harder bc you obv get less breaks in between tournies.

Hell i dont even know what kind of schedule they had when jack played anyways.

And again i dont golf or have ever played hockey, havent ever even ice skated but once or twice(unsuccessfully) But to have the records for goals and assists to the point hed have the most points if you didnt even count his goals is just beyond ridiculous to me. I cant even think of anything to remotely compare that to.

But again i dont golf so i cant even fathom 7 years without missing a cut either, or find anything to compare that too. Ive played maybe 3-4 holes of golf in my life and i broke my buddies head off his driver and never played again. Ive hit golfballs for fun and they fly every which way so i understand its not an easy sport by any means, but i cant really relate.

Eh. It’s a cool stat and one that will probably stand for a long ass time, but it’s not more impressive then Gretzky.

Yea we are pitting two incredibly effin ridiculous stats across not only different sports but a team sport to a one person sport.

Gonna be impossible and subjective imo

Completely forgot about Tiger. That's a good shout. At his peak he was the most dominant golfer ever. Second place isn't close.

Gretzky/Ali/Tiger are probably my top 3 in some order.

The was an argument many years ago between Ted Williams and Arnold Palmer. They discussed which sport was harder between baseball and golf.

Williams told Palmer that baseball was much harder because of curve balls, fast balls, etc., but in golf, the ball just sat on a tee. Williams went on to say that anyone could hit a ball sitting still.

Palmer thought for a second and responded, sure, but we have to play our foul balls.

Classic response from Palmer.
