My personal responsibility extends to caring about others. That means addressing wrongs regardless of who is responsible for them. It sounds like you're more worried about getting blamed for something than for fixing that something in the first place. Sounds selfish to me.
Well I have never owned a slave, never committed a hate based or race based crime, never asked for the government to give me one single thing, always applied myself and worked hard, so I don’t feel like I owe anybody a damn thing and it pissed me if when I get blamed for things based on my skin color.
I can not fix the race thing as long as people keep bringing up something that ended 150 years ago, but you can continue to wallow in the past instead of working toward the future.

Mrs. Carter used the word "slavery," which did indeed end over 150 years ago. Its 200+ years in the American colonies and U.S. gave way to another 100 years of legal oppression which gave way to another 50+ years of ongoing systemic oppression. That's where we are now. Focusing literally on the word "slavery" helps keep the focus away from doing anything about ongoing issues.

I take 100% responsibility for taking care of myself and my family by educating myself, applying myself, working hard to improve my lot in life without the government giving me a thing. Our country promises ever citizen a high school education with an opportunity to get a college education. If any citizen has no desire to grab it, then shame on them. Comparing slavery to that of a CBB player is very, very simple minded. It's also a huge injustice, and slap in the face to those who actually suffered through it. It's comments like these that will NOT allow racism to stop; Among other issues as well. When people quit blaming their failures on others, we may start to make some progress.

The starbucks incidents (more than one) and the Yale incident definitely show how people still profile based on race. They should be used as teaching moments. They are not indicators of how Americans are racist any more than people from other countries. Which I feel like had been hinted at on this board lately. Not so much by datt or dude, but still.

To be fair, there is video evidence of a Starbucks employee giving the bathroom code to white people who aren't buying anything, but refusing to give it to the black man who asked. I am not positive, but I think the black guy was a lawyer and he was making the videos to show discrimination. But.... it was only one woman who refused to give him the code. The rest of the people who he asked, gave it to him. So, it could be something, might not be.
What’s funny to me is I can find countless liberal commentators making idiotic/hateful/racist comments about conservatives, and I dont see you sitting here callin them out. It’s like you expect conservatives to denounce everything some random conservative person says all while tucking tail and hiding whenever some liberal nut job says some crazy shit.
People on both sides have work to do, in general, to make this country a better place.
I don’t have time to get angry at all the little injustices in the world, because there are millions. I have a demanding career, a big family (with little kids) and I actually have hobbies of my own. I literally don’t have the time or patience to worry about trying to fix everything. I treat others the way I want to be treated. I go to church. I raise my kids the right way. I donate to charities. I feel I’m doing my part. Just because you think people should do more or care more about things, doesn’t mean they have to or they’re selfish or don’t care.
It sucks because the fake cries of racism really hurt the honest ones. People like Michael Bennett really hurt their own cause my making up fake stories of police brutality and things.
Yup. People like Datt, who refuse to call out instances like the Bennett case, definitely hurt the real cases where racism actually existed.
