Doherty catches a lot of grief from UNC fans while never getting credit for recruiting the team that won the NC two years later
Yeah, he brought in the talent that Roy meshed together. I think most people now have fond feeling towards Doherty though. He was just somewhat difficult to get along with I think so rubbed many the wrong way.
Yea I always felt Roy should’ve thanked him for that title that he won with Doh’s players.
I praise Doherty all the time. Guthridge was the problem. Doherty turned shit around. He just got a little too dirty in the trenches and rubbed people (including his players) the wrong way. But the main player he had issues with was the head case McCants (who was an amazing basketball player).
North Carolina won the ACC and Doherty was national COY the season prior to going 8-20.
Even up 15 last night I just knew we’d blow it. There have been a lot of UNC teams that down 15 I had confidence we would come back. This team is the exact opposite. It’s hard to watch a team that can look okay for the first 35 minutes of so many games then forget how to play the last 5.

I guess. Just not sure what he is supposed to do. He calls timeouts. He changes the pace. He tries different lineups. He tries to run different sets. Several times last night they either just dribbled to the other team or passed it right to someone. Roy is the coach so some of it is always on him. I just don’t know what else he can do. The team is just mentally weak.
Karma is kicking UNC in the sack right now, well deserved, I might add. That said, I really hate it for the players who have done nothing wrong and had no part in the “no show” classes. To lose games the way they are losing is hard to watch for any fan. You can pay now or pay later, UNC’s bill is due and has to be paid.
Lol, yeah, I think winning the whole thing a couple of years ago as a big F U to the BS scandal was the actual Karma.

But the NCAA will continue to protect UNC and they (the NCAA) should have been the big karma with vacated titles and three years probation.

Exactly, this UNC team is not nearly as bad as their record, kinda mind boggling the way they are losing games this year.
As far as Karma, UNC won the title in 2017. They were vindicated by the NCAA six months later. The karma wouldn't have kicked in until they were absolved of any wrongdoing. After three seasons, they'll have just 3 NCAA Tournament wins to show.

What is different about Carolina this year from my perspective, besides not having ballers at every position, is that they just aren't getting intot he standard Carolina tempo which could wear you out. Some of our better defensive teams just still gave up too many points in transition to Carolina even when they were back defending. Roy just doesn't fit the type of coach this team needs, which is someone who is going to be involved nearly every play to maximize their potential. He wants them to be natural and just score but the reality is they don't have a great PG this year. Anthony is a talent, but he takes a ton of shots that just look terrible. Granted, they don't have the offensive firepower they normally do, but I'd rather dump it in to Brooks to hopefully put them in a position to rebound like they do quite well still.
I mean, I've seen worse on DI over the years when you guys have actually been good, lol. What exactly is the relevance here?

They try and dump it down low. Problem is Bacot can't finish and they are constantly doubled because we have no real outside threats. I agree the pieces don't really fit though. The team doesn't have the bball IQ to make it work. Roy has actually tried to structure things more but the players often still don't run what they are supposed to. It is pretty frustrating.

Beat the most hyped team ever? First of all, Duke was preseason #4. Second of all, are you patting yourself on the back for beating Duke twice without Zion? That's like beating the Chiefs without Pat Mahomes. Funny that give your team credit for beating a team without the NPOY - yet you dismiss a loss at the same time? That seems a little inconsistent.

You weren't talking about their crap season. You were taking shots at UNC fans saying dumb things about their team in the worst season they have ever had. Again, we could pull up Duke posters saying worse last year. It's pretty dumb.
That team was as hyped as anyone. They may not have been as good but they were hyped up more than any team I can remember because of Zion and Barrett and that class, especially after that first game. I didn't think beating those guys was that big a deal. I mean, they almost lost every game in the NCAAT I think. I was just playing off the karma angle. I don't see where that is me giving them a pat of the back. Despite all the injuries this year I don't remember dismissing any loss like people did with Zion though so not sure what you mean. Maybe you meant the flu thing? They got their butts kicked that game. It wouldn't have mattered much IMO. Again, just making fun of the karma stuff.

You didn't outright dismiss the loss, but you said that you guys "were a run of the flu away from potentially making another run." If you're going to qualify a loss because of an injury/illness, it makes sense to be consistent and qualify your wins, too. That's all I'm saying.
As far as the hype, sure, there was a lot of it. But, they were pre-season #4. Not #1. And A LOT of people expressed concerns about the makeup of the team. I said this in March of 2018.
