Every coach this AD has fired has been replaced within 48 hours.
Usually they have something in place before moving on.
Guess it comes down to Royal Ivey vs John Beilein if Chris Beard stays in Lubbock.
A lot of former basketball players want Ivey but he lacks head coaching experience.
People are questioning Beilein's teams. Had great teams at Michigan but nothing that blew you away.

Whoever can get Greg Brown to stay another year.
He needs it.
Most likely Ivey if not Beard.
Beard was the student manager when Greg Brown's uncle was.in the program. He has a relationship with the family.
Buyout drops on the first.
They can't actually approve the deal until after the buyout decreases.
Best case for Tech is get a handout from Texas and then hire Joe Golding.
Use that money to fire Matt Wells and go out and get a football coach...

I will change my profile pic to UT for the rest of the year if Beard leaves. I wish he would publicly tell them to F off, but he is too much of a professional to do it.
I don't think Tech fans realize he doesn't feel the same about UT that they do...
That is like me asking a Tech grad to hate Tx Tech.
Nothing to do with hate. There is just no reason to make the change.
Texas gives him a better chance at winning a NC.
Texas is his home. He came from the basketball program. The difference between Texas and some other schools is that they have maintained a family regardless of coach.
End of the day we will know on the first what happens.
So you'd take a lesser coach if he could convince a 1st round pick to come back?
First off, that's pretty selfish. Second, why is a fan of a big spender like Texas, located in a recruiting hotbed, thinking like a desperate midmajor?

If we want to be a basketball program we need to act like one.
Most likely going to be Beard or Ivey
So if they don't announce a slam-dunk hire very soon, we'll have to assume that Shaka got out while it was good. He knew that next year is likely to be rough and escaped before he could be canned.
The longer this goes on, the less likely Beard goes to UT. Both of their seasons are over. If he wants the job, he would take it pretty soon. If we're at this point next week, we better start talking about who else Texas is going to be looking at.
So, it should be a slam dunk then. He will come running to Austin. Right?
I hate Michigan but saying Beilein had nothing that blew you away is just false. He has a knack for identifying and developing talent. He made 2 national title games and had some really solid teams outside of that. If his coaching and teams compared to recruiting rankings didn’t blow you away you must have really high standards.
I could see someone not wanting Beilein because of his age limiting the amount of years he could actually coach, but his coaching was dynamite. The guy was a top 10 coach in the country in his time at UM. Significantly better than Shaka.
We will find out on the first.
If I was a Tx Tech I would prepare for the possibility.

Great teams but they didn't have the athletes.
Nothing personal against him or his coaching ability but it isn't the style of basketball some want.
Not concerned in the slightest. I'm sure UT fans will all agree they never really wanted him to begin with when he turns you down.

If Chris Beard walks out the door there is zero reason for people around TX Tech to hate him.
Simple as that.

He is there in Brooklyn with KD. Was with him in OKC.

It truly is amazing on how dumb some people are. If Beilein was 5 years younger, he should be on every teams short list, who is in need of a coach.
I don't care how old he is, he should be on everybody's short list. Dude can straight up coach college basketball. If Turge bolts for the midwest I'm hoping he is on the list to replace.
Beilein took Michigan to more title games than every coach in Texas basketball history combined.

Beilein was at his best when he brought in Luke Yaklich to coordinate the defense.
Enjoy the offensive sets. Great coach.
But the guy has baggage from the NBA for some of his statements.
Half his teams at Michigan were white.
