Some of you might recall I posted a few months back about my father's sports card collection. The auction is now up and running and his collection is featured. Link is above. It runs till 12/9.

Take a look if you want to browse my dad's amazing and historic collection. Pretty much all the old cards in the auction are from his collection including the featured Mickey Mantle rookie.

If you type "Orzoff" in the search it will pull up all his cards.

That's pretty cool. I even spotted this rookie card of @Bert Higginbotha from 1911.

Pat Patterson is a local dealer. Car not cards. I should get a finders fee.

Auction update: Things are going better than I thought. Based on the insurance appraisal ($320k) and with auction estimates being 50-60% of appraisal + there were a lot of things in the appraisal that didnt make it to the auction....I was hoping we would get $100k at the auction.

It closes on 12/9 and I was told that all the real bidding will happen on that day when each lot closes 1 by 1 every 15 minutes. So on Saturday I took a look and added up all the current bids and was shocked to see it was already at $104k. Checked again yesterday and it's up to $148k.

At this point I'm thinking it will get up over $200k and maybe even up to $250k, but don't want to get ahead of my skiis so just watching and keeping my expectations as low as possible.

The Mantle rookie is already at $18k with an original estimate of 15-25k.

I scheduled a light day for 12/9 so i can sit at my desk watching the auction all day.

So cool. Hearing stuff like this makes me want to do a real life meetup. I’d love to meet 4-5 posters who are loyal and trustworthy with ready access to ski masks, weaponry, military or tactical backgrounds, and the ability to supply airtight alibis. I think a meetup - maybe in greater Chicago - could be super fun.

exciting day. Ended up at $213k with 8 items failing to meet their reserve. Those items are worth low end 12k and we can put them in a later auction or offer them up to the person who had the highest bid.

7 lots got no bids, but only one big ticket item in there.
