Since 2000, Big 10 has been impressive as any league

I don’t know if they would or wouldn’t. But again, that’s not really what I’m trying to argue. I haven’t really said anything negative about the Big 10 or SEC. Both of them are good conferences that other programs seek to join.

The SEC is a football power, particularly if you just look at the last 20-30 years. They also have one of the greatest all time hoops programs, another couple of programs with consistent hoops success, great baseball and softball, and large, passionate fan bases. Sure there are a few programs that don’t add all that much to the league athletically (Vanderbilt, SCar, the Mississippi schools), but there are bottom feeders in every league.

The Big 10 hasn’t had the national championships in football and basketball that other conferences have had over the last 25 years, but they are a deep conference with massive fanbases, and generally compete well in a large variety of sports. They also have a few programs that don’t bring much to the table athletically (Northwestern, Rutgers, Minnesota, and recently Nebraska) but again, all conferences have a few.

The ACC is sort of like a combo of the two. More top end football success than the Big 10, but not the depth. Historical basketball powers like the SEC has with Kentucky, and also a few other programs that are consistently good. Very good in baseball too, and probably the best soccer in the country.

Would the Big 10 take 90% of Notre Dame? Idk. The reality is, Notre Dame can’t stand the Big 10 so it’s a moot point. They will never join there.

I’m sure the SEC would thumb their nose, but that’s cool. Different strokes for different folks. From MY personal perspective, I enjoy our rivalry with Notre Dame and I enjoy my road trips to South Bend every few years. So I’m happy to have them in our league.
The B1G has many better teams than Notre Dame. Look at Michigan, Ohio State: hell even Nebraska is better than ND. I think that Michigan State is better than Notre Dame. Then you have to consider Penn State. No way does ND want any part of the B1G.

You stated: "Sure there are a few programs that don’t add all that much to the league athletically (Vanderbilt, SCar, the Mississippi schools), but there are bottom feeders in every league." I would love to see ND go to Vandy, South Carolina and Mississippi State before they faced a team like Kentucky. Half of them would not show up. ND never has to slog it out like the B1G and SEC teams have to. Teams in the SEC don't get a Saturday off. ND gets a month off.

Anyway, neither of us is going to win this argument so I am out of this; however, ND would be a total zero in the SEC. They would be lower than South Carolina and have less attendance. Man that would hurt!

I think we are just talking about different things. Somewhere along the lines you got the impression I was trying to say the ACC is better than the SEC in football. When in reality I’ve explicitly stated the opposite on multiple times in this thread.

Somewhere along the lines it seems like you got the impression I was trying to say the SEC is an unstable conference. I’m not, nor have I ever even implied that.

I don’t really care about winning a title every season. I like college sports for the pageantry and the traditions and the fun experiences. I like going road games and visiting cool cities and campuses. I like forming memories and enjoying the journey. If we win big, great, that’s even better. But I still have had my season tickets and go to the games even when FSU has been 5-7.

I really don’t care if ND splits their NBC revenue or not. I don’t care that SEC teams make tens of millions more from their tv deal than FSU. That’s not why I follow college sports. When I want to watch the best of the best play the sport at the highest level, I watch the NFL and the NBA. So perhaps it feels like you’re not persuading me in your “argument” because we are simply talking about totally different points of views.

All that said, you kind of lose credibility when you say Nebraska has been better than Notre Dame lol. Nebraska football has had 6 losing seasons in the last 7 years. And their basketball team (which is what this board is all about and this thread was all about to begin with) has made the NCAA Tourney once since 2000.

Great fan base with great football history, but the Cornhuskers aren’t very relevant in major college sports right now.

Neither is Notre Dame.

Has been impressive in what? Getting 8-9 teams every year and then 90% of them done after the first weekend?

Sorry, the “at least we made it” accomplishment doesn’t fly with me

Neither is Notre Dame.

I mean, they made back to back Elite 8s in 2015 and 2016. That’s more NCAAT wins in two years than Nebraska has…ever? And in football they have finished in the top 15 6 out of the last 7 seasons.

ND isn’t Bama or UGA, but they are way more relevant in football and basketball than Nebraska is. Not even really a conversation.
