SEC / BIG12 Challenge Matchups Set

It's cute how these TT fans think Beard is gonna be there long-term

He might be. I don’t see a difference between the situation he and Tony were put in. Both are in big conferences and now both can get real talent to the school after proving their worth. Plus he has the family appeal to stay home.

Texas is a big state to recruit basketball wise. Lots of talent in Tejas.

With that being said, I don’t think he does but it is a good place to be.

Its cute how people realize how good Beard is by assuming he will jump to a blue blood. But, when witnessing that program going to the elite 8 and the championship in subsequent years from absolutely no where somehow convince themselves we will get worse with better talent coming in.

Big difference is that Beard is a Texas alum. Bennett went to UW-Green Bay. Texas will come calling for Beard at some point and it'll be hard for him to say no imo. Bennett isn't leaving UVA for his alma mater.

Let's see him turn down one before we assume he won't.

Beard is excellent. He may get you a championship before he leaves. But leave he will.

Not gonna lie your avatar triggers me a lot.

At least let me show you the whole thing

Would he really leave to go down the street though? Texas is always football first. Whereas Texas Tech FB sucks at the moment, so basketball is becoming a priority. Both in the same conference too. What’s the appeal of Texas that makes it better?

Bigger name, school, recruiting base, Texas network, money for his family etc.

Austin >>>>> Lubbock
$$$
Alma mater

Maybe he stays forever at TT but I think UT comes at him hard soon

....at least you're honest.

You try really hard to downplay UVA's championship but not a single thing you could say could take away that joy for me. It might be Bennett's only championship (I doubt it) but that brought me a lifetime of joy.

I'm sure it did. Just try not getting drunk on your first beer.

Austin >>>>> over the dust bowl known as Lubbock is.
I live close enough to Austin and its nice but Lubbock isn't near the shithole everyone makes it out to be. Never lived there as a fully functioning adult but fun as hell to go to school there. It has its own charm that Austin doesn't have.

Go on...

Let me see if I follow. KU went to the elite 8 three straight years, final four in '18, followed by a preseason #1 team whose roster fell apart.

Tech, meanwhile, notches an elite 8 and a final four appearance, and this means that they're now in charge of the league that KU won 14 years in a row. Do I have that straight?

Apparently for you guys it didn't take losing your coach just us getting a better one.

Apparently it took your daddy losing three of his top five players to eek out one little title.

I remember when I got excited for one Big 12 title. Wait.....no, I don't.

I would just let this go...clearly he is messing around. I know you love to defend KU, but he is just pushing your buttons at this point my man.

Why waste your time?

These Tech fans think that Chris Beard is better than Tom Izzo/ Roy Williams and John Calipari combined and he will never leave Tech.
He turns players into Lottery Picks and that Culver wasn't an elite player until he met Chris Beard

Regarding Texas.

I think if Smart is fired Billy Donovan would be #1.
Doesn't have a buyout and has a proven track record.
Donovan is somewhat interested in Texas from reports if he isn't extended at OKC.

Being a football school has its advantages
No pressure but having the ability to recruit like a basketball school.
Best of both worlds.

I think you have it backwards. He's triggered.

Not unlike many of the Johnny-come-latelies in their fanbase who carry a silly chip on their shoulder.

Lol, pretty much. I'm purposely laying it on a bit thick. You guys will be a lot better next year and I Iegitimately think we have a shot at being extremely good as well if we gel like last year's team defensively. That's a big if though. I think offensively we will be quite a bit improved. Neither team will run away with the Big 12 though and it will come down to the last couple games again.

You had an atypical year injury wise I will give you that. I'll even tell you if you had no injuries you likely would have won the Big 12.

But, now can we jump out of fantasy land and into reality where you did have injuries and the superior team that actually played the games claimed the title?

Jarrett Culver was a 3*, #312 composite player in his class. That certainly isn’t elite for a P5 school, unless you are saying that is elite in Texas’ eyes.

I could see it more if he was at an out of state job that wasn’t already P5 and in the same conference.

He’s proven his worth and has got it made with the fan support around him and the recruits finally seeing his program.

I don’t think there’s much of an appeal other than alma mater really. The other 2 are intangibles that I wouldn’t think would end up being determining factors about why he left just to drive up the road.

Sure, why not?

I was actually glad it happened. It was getting embarrassing.

I think rankings are almost entirely meaningless after the top 50. Honestly, less than that.

Culver was a sought-after player in Texas circles. Sheriff will be along any minute now to expound on this in great detail.

Texas had Culver very high.

He was suppose to be with the Matt Coleman/Mo Bamba class.
He was the first real great evaluation done by the current staff
He stayed home in Lubbock and Texas ended up with Jase Febres.

But Culver is one of maybe 1-4 players in Texas that is heavily recruited by all P5 schools in the state.

Don't waste your time as this guy thinks Culver was basically an under evaluated 5 star player because he went to a small school and no amount of coaching ever helps a player of that immense talent. Its fully by the grace of god provided at birth with the talents to be a top 10 drafted player in the NBA.

Lubbock Coronado isn't a small school.

Problem for Culver is that he is from West Texas and didn't play on a big AAU team.
If he played in Dallas, Houston or Austin it would have been different.

Culver had huge upside. Most of the coaches in Texas at that level and the college level had Culver as a Top 2-3 player that year in the state

These rankings are all based on AAU tournaments.

I'm really starting to come around to the idea of playing TT this year. At their place especially.

It's no AFH by no means, but sure why not.

Any TT fan up to a two week avatar bet? We can do longer if you like. The bet remains if any teams adds anyone or loses anyone to injury.
