S. Greenberg Predicts Bill Self to Spurs

yeah because college coaches love on a Tuesday night in July/august to go sit a hot cramped high school gem to watch some 15-16 year old kid play just to “show him love”. There’s a reason why the only coaches that come back to college are the ones who weren’t good enough.

There’s also a reason that K, Roy, Self, Wright, etc have never made the jump.

I will say those guys, and its a small group, at this point in their career don't have to go on the road as much. You can't put everyone in the same mold but in general NBA coaches have a better life outside of basketball. Some though their life is basketball. I was just pointing out what the WVU guy said wasn't exactly true.

No offense to KU fans, but I don’t know why the Spurs would want Self. Like dude said the nba is a crap shoot between the haves and have nots. As proven by the numerous hall of fame college coaches who tried their hand in the nba only to go back to the college game. Brad Stevens and Billy Donovan are the only two I can think of in the league right now, and while Stevens is still young, it wouldn’t suprise me to see Billy D back in college once his days at OKC are over, but who knows. He’s obv a good basketball coach but even with 2 top 15 players last year, they didn’t do anything in the playoffs. I can’t remember if Billy D was coaching them when they still had Durant and blew the 3-1 series to GS or not.

Honestly the only current college coach I could see being successful in the nba is Cal, and that’s only IF he could “Recruit” a bunch of his former college guys to come play for him via free agency, but even that’s a pretty big stretch. I’m only 35ish, who was the last coach to successfully switch from college to the NBA. I know Pitino and Cal tried and failed and returned to the college game. Quinn Snyder maybe? Didn’t he coach a couple years in college? He might be the only coach ever that was more successful in the NBA than college.

Lol there is very little poaching from the college level to the NBA and it’s not because the NBA doesn’t think to look at college coaches. Complete falsehood. Most good college coaches don’t want to go to the level that Tyronn Lue can win a title and 3 conference titles because he is best at washing LeBron’s balls.

I'm just saying whats been relayed during our past coaching searches. Donovan and Stevens specifically enjoyed the nba lifestyle because there was no recruiting and more business like. When the season over you actually have an off season instead of traveling all over the country chasing kids. You think the NBA is babysitting? They're paid professionals. What do you think its like worrying about your star players at 18-22 running around a college campus? You don't see a ton of coaches going from college to NBA because they aren't good enough and are more worried about job security than "babysitting" professional athletes.

Stevens told Beilein he would love it and he should move to the NBA if he ever had the chance. Stevens also said he would never go back to college.
