Place to put my Nonsense Thread.

Teaching and news go hand in hand. Does teachers try and pass opinions off as facts, or just stick to the actual news.

I'm sure there are some that do. Mostly that isn't the case though. Actually teaching the difference is part of what goes on in a school.

What generally happens is this. A teacher has a passage about a topic. The secondary lesson is about inference or fact and opinion or something. Some kid things something in the passage is about something their parent hates. They only half listen and go home and mention it to their parent. Parent loses their crap and calls the school and the district up in arms. Teacher calls the parent and actually explains the lesson. Parent is like, 'Oh, yeah, that makes sense', or if they are kind of out there don't get it and still complain. Regardless, people hear about this and think the school is teaching things they aren't and everyone is like all, 'That school is teaching my sweet baby about x and I ain't gonna take it'.

You don't decide which roads get repaved do you? Don't our tax dollars pay for that. I once had a parent who sent in information about the Aryan Nation demanding that I introduce this to the other students in the room. This is extreme but where do we draw the line on parents wanting their children taught or not taught certain things.

The problem with education is everyone thinks they know how things work and should work because they once went to school. It's just an absurd POV.
I think we agree more than we disagree on this topic. My statement was a blanket statement in response to your blanket statement. I believe that you do think that parents should have some say, as your response to toonces shows. As I believe that our tax dollars should go to public educators. I just disagree with a simple "no they shouldn't" answer to whether or not parents should have a say in what their children are being taught.

And btw, I do have a say in where I pay road taxes.

I can't imagine the % of uninformed, uneducated, and miserable parents schools have to deal with. Being able to teach effectively is much different than knowing the material front to back. Usually the loudest parents are the ones that are straight up fugging dolts.

Parents have say in terms of their vote for sure. My 'no say' comment is more in terms of letting parents decide curriculum. Giving parents say there in general would be a nightmare, which I think you probably agree with.

You have a say in terms of where you live. I assume that is what you mean. You don't have a say in terms of which roads your tax dollars (wherever you pay them) fix.

I love dealing with parents in general. Most of them are awesome. But yeah, the loudest can be trying at times. But, regardless, the most important person is the kid and nothing the parent does can impact how we treat the kid.

I can't believe all the money y'all get from tax credits and shit, you can't afford to send them to private school.

I thought about having kids just to get that check.

Not really. I'd be a horrible parent.

Private school is quite expensive unless you get it paid for because your kid is exceptional in some regard.

I'd probably treat my kids the way I was treated. You eat when you work. Had to pull our own.

my wifes is the worst. They started chipping in on bills from jobs their dad found for them when they were 9=10 years old. (all his kids are well off now)

Different way of thinking I guess.

You're telling me right now a kid with a Duke shirt walks in to your classroom and you aren't throat punching him?

I've had two ppl try and come in to my home wearing duke gear. One was a HS student and I made him leave his Duke coat outside. Other was a new friend and I allowed it. He talks shit constantly.

I've became more relaxed over the years. I used to not let my BIL watch a game with me b/c I noticed he was bad luck. I used to wear lucky clothing. Did everything possible to swing the luck in our favor. didn't work, so I gave up on it.

Never been a fan of mother-in-law togue plants.

My wife's hobby is throwing away money trying to keep succulents from dying.

If you are dating someone or married, consider yourself lucky. This is what I have to deal with on dating apps just outside Louisville. I would honestly find more attractive animals at the zoo.

You should have something about arm wrestling in your profile.
"If you can take me, swipe left"

I bet her kankel muscles are really strong.

One of those weird feminists, I believe. The "natural women are beautiful" type. Which still, even if you were on that side as a guy and were totally with her, how can any straight guy find that attractive?
I'd be interested. You know she'd put one on you. Ride it out dude. See what it's about. You might fall in love.

Just make sure to tell us gossip girls about it.

I thought about becoming a history teacher, because history is something I'm very passionate about. But not sure the pay or dealing with bratty kids is worth that.

I wanted to coach pretty badly and knew teaching meant fast track to coaching. I don’t think I’d enjoy either at this point and certainly not for a teacher’s salary.

I love it. The money really isn't bad if you are smart with it. I would guess we are probably doing better than most in terms of savings balanced with vacations and everything else. We basically buy and do whatever we want. COL here helps with all of that though. I get it though. You aren't going to be driving luxury cars or things like that. The time I get to spend with my kids and for vacations and golf and stuff can't be beat though. Plus, I do enjoy the job itself and working with students.

When I was young I also worked a second job. For years I worked 7 days a week all year long. That helped at the time. Thankfully that really isn't necessary anymore.

Then tell your teacher friends to quit ****ing about being underpaid and working 70 hour weeks.
