Thanks! I come from a pretty big military family. I'm the youngest of six, and my other 5 siblings have all served in the military (plus my dad). I'm the only one, outside of my mom, who doesn't have any military experience. 3 in the Army, 2 in the Navy (if you count my dad), and 1 in the Air Force. Love our troops!

Yeah, this was shortly after 9/11, so I think it got a little more attention for that reason.

Mortgage Loan Officer. Seems like a pretty low-key job for him. He was previously doing something with electric cars over at the Pentagon.
I joined in February 2001, so just before 9/11. Crazy times. Whichever sibling was in the AF is the only smart one. 😁

I take it you joined the Air Force? 2001 definitely was a crazy time. You're not still in there, are you?

The AF brother began his military service at the Air Force Academy. He was on the football team, too. This picture below always make me laugh. So, two of my brothers went up to Colorado Springs to visit him. He gave them tickets to an Air Force game in the student section... and of course they both show up in Navy gear lol. One clearly stands out, as he has a yellow shirt, the one to the right of him is the brother who played at Navy (he should have worn yellow too so he stood out more).

Air Force brother was not too pleased when he found out they were seating there in Navy attire. Great family memory. Wish I was there.

That's great. Were they playing Navy that game? Would make it even funnier. Air Force does own both Navy and Army head-to-head though. 😎

Yep. This was the Navy-Air Force game in 2008. Navy won that game. Think they had a 7-game winning streak over AF during that period.

But yes, overall, Air Force has been the most consistent. They dominated in the 80's and 90's.

This thread has definitely become republican dominated, but its not like we are all crazy right extremists. Most of the times we shit on libs its because of something extreme they do or say, or its a place with very liberal policies that isn't doing well. Its not exactly controversial stuff we are bringing up. Any moderate democrat shouldn't feel offended by any of it. In fact, a lot of us on here have called out far right bullshit that is brought up. I know for a fact myself, ghost, hail, toonces, and probably every other republican itt has pushed back on republican policy at some point.

It has gotten vile at times, but there's been plenty that we've discussed where moderate dems or republicans should agree on.

The advance child tax credit payments is a policy change that makes more sense than any other policy change I’ve seen in ever. Congress is about to let it lapse because they have their heads fully up their asses.

No surprise there, but holy shit. You have a thing that is only a positive. It’s not extra money going out, it’s just credits being issued earlier. It has cut child poverty and hunger dramatically. Literally zero downside. And they’re going to fvck it up.

GD morons.

I haven't read up on this. Explain to someone stupid.

The child tax credit is a tax credit you get for having kids. It’s been around a while; Biden bumped up the amount a little bit but the amount isn’t where Congress is falling on its face. What he did in addition to giving a boost to the amount of the credit is he allowed families to elect to receive half of the credit monthly instead of waiting for tax time. So if you’d get a $3,000 credit at tax time, instead you could get monthly payments totaling $1,500 for the year. Then when you file taxes, you get the other $1,500.

It makes incredible sense and is one of the best things this administration has done so far. They’re going to let it lapse or die, it seems. And the Republicans don’t get off the hook for this either because the fact that none of them will support it is part of the reason it might die. Both sides suck right now.

Do you truly believe that or is this just a quick zinger? He has shit on republicans more than most other conservatives that post here.
His criticisms are almost always hollow. Like with Trump. He’ll be the first to tell you he didn’t actually like Trump and that he criticized him. He was also the first to defend Trump against any and all criticism.

Ghost wasn’t always this way. He’s gotten worse.

Just from your post, I will agree with you. See no issues dividing up the funds if it means helping families out more than one time a year.

Ghost didnt defend Trump blindly imo---and very few conservatives on here did. You gotta remember, liberals and MSM literally spent 24 hours a day tearing the man to shreds for anything and everything. Liberals had a problem and carnival barked at every single thing he did. The same thing is happening under biden and somehow.....liberals aren't crying about it anymore. Trump was a guy that brought a lot of BS on himself, but it was asinine how much the liberal media attacked and spun everything he did into a negative.

Does everybody get that credit, or is it an income based/ need based program?

To add to that, I don't think a single regular conservative that posts here wants Trump back in office in 2024. I think most of us are on board with the Ron DeSantis train.

Most people with kids get it. For married couples, you get a reduced amount if your income is over $150k. The credit goes away if you income is over $400k.
I wish we could compile a common sense list that no rational person would disagree with. Make a bill of just those things, no add ons from either party. Pass it in perpetuity. (i've never used that word before)

There was plenty that I liked about Trump. The only things I defended, though, were the completely fabricated lies that were spewed. Like the children in cages, the Ukraine situation and half the gender/race bullshit that they threw out there. I would never defend his tact or his maturity. I said wholeheartedly that he was a coward for abandoning his duties after the election. He ignored healthcare, didn't do anything about lobbyists or term limits like he said he would. The thing people have trouble understanding is that there will never be a candidate that you are going to agree with 100% or even 60% more likely. Unless you're the Sean Hannity of the right or the Rachel Maddow of the left. But no smart person is going to vote with their feelings over their values. My values aren't represented by either party. It just happens that the republicans come closer on almost every issue I find important. I think liberal policies are destructive and disingenuous. I think republican policies are disingenuous. So I vote against the destructive policies. It's deeper than that, but in a nutshell

The thing is, things that should be common sense aren’t that way for most people. Just look at how liberals and the far right look at abortion.

far right: it should never be legal unless the baby or mother’s life is at risk

far left: her body her choice, always.

I think DeSantis has the same no bullshit attitude as Trump but has a better delivery. He is also not as toxic. I hope he runs, but unfortunately I don't think he will if Trump does.

Also. As far as the thread is concerned. We don't always talk politics. Just because a certain person ONLY talks politics, it doesn't mean that it is simply a republican circle jerk. And it's not the conservatives' fault that when they got their way, the libs ran off. You'd think it would be the other way around. We sat around and read their emotional meltdowns for four years, they tucked tail and ran as soon as their guy won.

My biggest concern for Republicans is they talk a big game about small governments. But, they spend just as much as Democrats. Would love fort that to be actually true, but it doesn't happen, at least not on the federal level.

Trump is just too divisive. Even if I liked his policies and constant shitting on extreme leftists, he is not the answer to get America back up and running. Although I'm not sure any person right now could unify this country, regardless of party.

The best way to unite the country is to quit talking about unity and act through policies that benefit all. We were getting there in 2018/19. Unity is not a physical item that can be obtained. It's just a word with little meaning when politicians talk about it.

So, a mother at my son's school put her kid in a Biden Santa sweater (Happy 4th of July) mocking him. Do you conservatives think this is acceptable? The kid is in 6th grade. I think it's despicable and would say the same if a kid wore a sweater mocking Trump.

I don't like involving children in anything political. I don't care if I agree with the message.

I don't disagree. More or less the act of coming together. I don't think Trump will allow that to happen.

I wouldn't push an agenda on any kid. My parents allowed me to form my own opinions and values from growing up and seeing the world for myself. I would like to think that is how most people come to their beliefs.

Politics have taken over peoples lives. It says more about the parent than biden. I think parents should teach principles over politics.

That's what I'm saying. Stay-at-home moms with nothing better to do can be very dangerous. She's a terror on Facebook, just the worst.

I think every conservative here is against pushing politics on kids. There is a leftist teacher here who has defended politics in the class room IIRC and he teaches 6th grade.
