My buddy's wife has just a Puerto Rican accent, not the NY/Puerto Rican accent. But talks the same way as Perez in that scene. One time she said that her neck was sore after dramatically rubbing it and looking at him for a couple of minutes. He never said anything. She flips out and starts yapping about how she said her neck hurt and he didn't even care. My wife loves her for some reason, I couldn't put up with her shit, myself. Don't know how my friend has been married to that shrew for so long.
Whether or not Simone should be athlete of the year is one thing. But she did have a legitimate reason to back out of competing. She didn't quit on her team anymore than a QB who tears his ACL quits on his team.

Its not one thing, its the only thing. Its called "athlete of the year " for a reason. Not sure what criteria she could have possibly met that others didnt far exceed.
It was something called the twisties. My daughter does gymnastics and they have talked about it there as well. I think she did have some anxiety at some point over the sexual assault stuff but I don't screw with questioning that sort of thing. I've seen enough that I know those issues can be very legit. However, the danger of doing some of the moves with what is basically the yips is why she didn't compete. Anyone making fun of her for that is just taking a low blow because they don't like here for some weird personal reasons.
Anyone saying she shouldn't be Athlete of the Year is a different thing. She didn't compete in several events, which probably helped her team medal but still. She didn't compete in them so saying she should be AofY is very reasonable.
So she got AofTY with having the twistie and not able to perform. She had a reason she couldn't perform and didn't perform. I don't care what she's looks like, what she represents. What did she do to deserve the award?
I'm open to having it explained to me.

Yeah, not sure anyone here is really saying she should have won it.
She only competed in specific events. It is a mental thing having to do with jumping or landing or something when you are in the air. From what my daughter says it only really impacts certain events but it is extremely dangerous in those specific events. Did she make a bunch of excuses? She basically said it was all the rest of her team that won and that she cost them a gold. If she competed in the team event with those issues the team probably wins nothing. She knew she would screw them. It wasn't some honorable ordeal or anything IMO but it also wasn't whatever else some are trying to make it out to be.
I mean, what do you think happened? She was tired and wanted to screw her team out of the gold? The simplest explanation actually makes the most sense.
My work hired someone to come in for sensitivity training. Imagine that on a bunch of middle aged mixed races guys trying to make a buck. Our salesforce is easily 80% black.
Someone said something about a guy brown nosing. Owners brought in a sensitivity training to get ahead of it.

Nah she was shitting the bed and broke. She’s not going to be the first or last athlete that breaks under pressure. It happens, which makes this lol worthy that’s she’s athlete of the year. This would be like giving Greg Norman athlete of the year in 86.

I didn't start the convo hating her but hating the Times for naming her athlete of the year. I don't hate her, but I recognize that she choked in one of the biggest moments of her career. Luckily, she already accomplished everything she did the previous Olympics.
