Place to put my Nonsense Thread.

The rioters weren’t helping. They were just a fraction of the people protesting, though. I’m talking about the protestors, not the .01% who burnt and stole shit (source: your mom).
So about the same % of bad cops? Make a big deal out of one, ignore the other?

I don’t think all cops are bad because some like to beat up and kill black people for sport. I don’t think BLM is bad because some decided to smash windows and light fires.

That's the thing though, when a white cop kills a black person it's just assumed (and portrayed) by the media to be racially motived. Every single headline will say "Black man killed by white cop blah, blah, blah". Couldn't possibly have anything to do with the crimes they were committing, past criminal history, resistance, non-compliance, wielding weapons, violence, etc. Nah, whitey killed Fred just because Fred was black.

Some people assume too much. Some people dismiss too much. We can’t assume all white cops shooting black dudes are racist. We also can’t assume there are never racial motivations when white cops shoot black people.

And ‘racial motivation’ doesn’t mean the cop is overtly racist and uses the n-word everyday. He could just be more scared of or more aggressive toward black people without recognizing it.

This goes a lot deeper than shootings, though. If you live in a black community where the perception is cops are not there to protect you; they’re there to find any reason at all to jail you; you are probably not going to cooperate with them. When you don’t cooperate, the situation escalates. Then we end up with a ‘chicken or the egg’ scenario like this:

Observer: Well, if you didn’t want to get shot you shouldn’t have kicked the officer and resisted arrest.

Black guy: Well, if they didn’t plant coke on us for jaywalking, I wouldn’t have resisted.

(These are exaggerations for emphasis.... hail)

Again, though, shootings aren’t the whole problem. We’ve seen black men walking in the suburbs get targeted by police or their neighbors. We’ve seen black people get longer prison sentences for the exact same crimes as white people. We know that black people started from extreme poverty with few chances to get out of poverty until the 1970’s or so; only a few generations back. We know that being black and being poor are inextricably linked in most cases. And we know that being poor is the single biggest contributing factor to committing crime. Shootings get the headlines. It’s bigger than that.

And for this very reason we should stop the fearmongering. If black kids are being influenced by the media that they shouldn't trust the cops because they're corrupt and prejudiced, then they'll be much more likely to resist arrest. By perpetuating the narrative that the cops are targeting black people, the tension between black people and cops is actually being exacerbated. This shameful message against cops is making some black kids unnecessarily resist the LEO and play Russian roulette with their own life.

Chicago has been surprisingly clean and less homeless than I expected. Perhaps it’s my neighborhood. Headed to green street meats tonight. (Insert penis joke here)

Nailed it. With most...of this stuff, it really boils down to play stupid games win stupid prizes.

Also, teaching kids the police is only there to protect and stop troublemakers would go a long ways. My wife used to talk about her kids all the time that they all had a misrooted perception of police, FD, doctors.

That's basically what I think of when thinking of Vegas.

Living in a shithole > degenerate shithole.
There is absolutely no comparison to the literal shithole (San Francisco) and Las Vegas. None. Although there are millions of Californians moving to Las Vegas and Reno because they can't afford to live there anymore since the dumb shits they voted for flipped their beloved state upside down. So, in that regard, yes.... Californians are making Nevada shittier by the minute.

Black kids are being influenced by experience more so than the media.

We need to stop with this ‘the media is pushing false narratives’ nonsense.

Maybe they should stop being criminals then. 😁

Not necessarily their own experience. If you see cops treating people who look like you like crap, you’re not going to trust that cops have your best interests at heart.

Riiiiight. JFC......

He’s not wrong though. It’s hard for people (a lot of posters in this thread included) to put themselves in other peoples shoes. Is what it is, I guess..
No he's not completely wrong. But its not the reason black kids do not trust cops. Its a combination of being raised/taught, to not trust the police...A bit of the media profiling every white cop/black person encounter as racially motivated...Its also a bit of , well, being a god damn criminal.

It bothers me when folks want to blame ONE thing, as THE reason. Its simply not true. And then dismiss any other possible factors.

I do not pretend to understand how a black man feels, when approached by law enforcement. I am sure there is anxiety, as you do not know what type of officer is approaching you.

BUT.......if you are committing crime, have dope on you, etc, etc....that anxiety is due to you breaking the law, opposed to what type of officer is approaching you. For some reason, folk wanna dismiss that part.

Why? Is it just easier to have an excuse?
