OT- death projections 60k

this year it is the Covid 19. in a couple years hopefully 80 -100 years later it will be something else. there always is and there always be something that will come along that people will die from.

Cancer has been killing people for decades and yet there is no vaccine or cure for it today. even children are dying from Cancer, where is the OUTRAGE about that?

I lost my daughter her Boyfriend and his 3 year old daughter to a drunk driver and people are still being killed by drunk driver with no cure in sight for that.

when small poc's came out there was no medicine nor was there all this technology to find a vaccine. when the cholera broke out there was no vaccine and 1000's died. from these diseases,

today the Corona Virus has broke out with no vaccine and people are going over board by expecting a vaccine NOW. plus crying about people dying.

get over it already finding a vaccine will take time and nothing anybody can say or stomp their feet demanding it NOW like little babies.
Thanks Doc

Of course it won’t. That’s because in 1918:

1. People tried to cover up the fact there was a deadly disease going around. It ravaged the trenches in WWI, where people were packed in like sardines. Philadelphia encouraged people to come to a parade and said there was no issue. A week later thousands were dead. They did the opposite of social distancing at first and they paid the price big time.

2. Medical care, medicine, and transportation to hospitals was a shell of what it is today.
Jewish hospital in Louisville is on Flexner Way. Find out why. Read this book:

Man, I can't even contemplate your grief. I lost my grandson in a car accident. That is singly the worst thing that ever happened to me.

I can't imagine what you went through. May God bless you and hopefully relieve you from some of that pain.

True, but my argument was never about any of that or how many people it is killing. I simply said not everyone can live to be 95 years old. If they did, there would be 890 billion people on Earth.
Agreed but that’s not something you need to worry about because lots of countries are experiencing negative growth rates and the average life expectancy even here in the US is less than 80 years.

It's those damned Asians, Nish. They breed like rabbits!

The only people asking this are people who aren’t lost anyone, and I feel like a number of people who are asking are people who still have their jobs and have been more inconvenienced than anything else.

Americans too often live paycheck to paycheck and would rather spend oodles on some 50 inch tv than save. If we cannot bounce back after... what, three or four months of some real shut downs (and it isn’t all businesses, no by a long shot) with trillions of dollars being given out to tide people over... then we are doing something wrong as a people. We can get through this as a country, and I would wager the vast majority of jobs will come back... and for those whose jobs don’t, I hope they have the education and experience and toughness to get back to work in SOME way, and I hope that my tax dollars can help them do that.

So yes. When projections are looking at a million or more dead, it is worth it. Sucks, for sure... my wife’s business went under over the course of like four days, and it sucks... I’m an elementary school teacher, and to have a six figure income just... vanish... sucks for my family. Plus the damn landlord isn’t giving ANY leeway, and getting any sort of loan to help with the rent is impossible. Years building it, only to have to collapse. But if it means hundreds of thousands of people going home to their families, it is worth it... she is a hard worker, and good at her job, and we will bounce back, hopefully with my 79 year old mother and my 75 year old mother in law with lung issues still alive and snuggling with their grandkids.

Well Biden guaranteed a cure for cancer, Alzheimers, and diabetes if he's elected president so hopefully we won't have to worry about that anymore. Smoke up kids!

People say all sorts of stuff when running for President.

Remember when Trump said “I know more about ISIS than the generals do, believe me.” and that he would have a plan to defeat ISIS within 30 days of becoming President? And that he himself already had a perfect plan for defeating ISIS, and said that if the generals plan was any good they would carry out a “combination of my plan and the generals' plan."

Or how about when he said “We're gonna repeal (Obamacare), we're gonna replace it, and we're gonna get you great, great health care at a fraction of the cost.”

Or what about when he said "I would build a great wall, and nobody builds walls better than me, believe me, and I'll build them very inexpensively, I will build a great, great wall on our southern border. And I will have Mexico pay for that wall.”

Or when he said he would get rid of the national debt “over a period of eight years.”

Heck, even when he said "I would not be a president who took vacations. I would not be a president that takes time off,” and “I’m not going to have time to go play golf.”

Everyone makes nutty promises.

The problem is not everyone is 75 or 79 and they shouldn’t be forced to stay at home. Freedom comes with risk. There are many nice places in the world where people look to the government for protection this country didn’t use to be one of them. Imagine how many less people would die from car crashes or the flu if we lived like this? Everyone could live to be 90.

The freedom to have this country be the most litigious in the world is why everyone is inside. Every university knows that if they had a sporting event right now and one student got sick and died from COVID, they would be sued to kingdom come.

And for what it’s worth, we really haven’t had any liberties taken away. It’s not like you get arrested and thrown in jail if you go outside.

They are arresting preachers for having church. I’m not religious but that’s insane. Do you think I could take my kids to the park and practice some t ball right now? Neither do I.

There seems to be a fundamental difference in people, in these discussions. Some, like you, seem to think the individual is the end of the story, and don’t seem to put much weight on the impact that one persons actions can have on other people who weren’t part of that decision. Some, like me, think of the individual as also being part of a whole, and really take into consideration the impact one persons decision has on other people.

Plus there is the whole “take one circumstance and apply it to everything” slippery slope thing. Nobody would say we should eliminate cars, or that the regular flu would warrant this. That’s why nobody has done this for those circumstances. This is something different.

FYI, this conversation just happened last night in the sideways whatever thread at that top.

Here is one thing I posted:

“If two hundred people decide to go celebrate a religious holiday together, do you REALLY think that only those two hundred people and no others can pay for that choice? So it is okay they make that choice, and so what if it harms the police who respond to their house when they collapse, and the EMS workers who have to revive them and transport them, and the nurses who take them in, and the doctors who work on them, and the custodians those medical personnel come in contact with, the the cafeteria workers at that hospital and ALL of those people’s families... you think that is fine, because that person had to go to a religious service exactly how and where and when they wanted to, and can’t wait a few months to go to a big service.”

Every time I see someone complain about not being able to go to church, or not being able to play baseball at the park, it feels supremely selfish and egocentric, and like the person is unable to understand how a society actually works. It baffles me.

I guess I value freedom over a false sense of protection from a virus that I may not even catch and if I do an even smaller chance it will kill me. Government mandating things can’t protect me from a virus. I can only protect myself. I take the necessary precautions to not take it home from work.

Just highlighting this... dont understand how anyone can drive drunk, and this is worth pointing out, for anyone who might be reading.

I don’t know where you live, but here you could definitely take your kid to the park and practice t ball. Just as long as you were 6 feet from others. Same for church.

First off, nobody is taking away your freedom. People are saying stay home and watch tv and play baseball in your back yard for a few months. Don’t be overdramatic.

Second, it isn’t a false sense of anything. The top experts in the world have said this will help. It’s already showing signs of helping. Surely you don’t think you know more than they do about something you know nothing about. That would be another sign of crazy egocentrism.

And YOU say you take the necessary precautions. We don’t know if that is true. Plenty of people do dumb shit that put the rest of us in danger. Take, for example, drunk driving.

So we shouldn’t have speeding laws? We shouldn’t have drinking and driving laws? We shouldn’t have an age and advertising restrictions on smoking?

We should all just protect ourself so that we don’t have to give up those freedoms?

Do people really get that much more satisfaction out of going to church than just praying at home? Does god not love you as much if you don't pray at church? Its just a precaution to keep people safe. I don't get it.

Biden is in the early stages of dementia. Trump has had this locked up for a while

Yeah, we have crazy old dude on the left or the delusional narcissist on the right. Not quite as bad as what we faced four years ago but close.

Yes, I think you could do that unless the park itself is closed. Obviously, going to a place that is closed is something people don't generally do. I just took my boy to the ball field and did some BP and infield practice though.

I don’t think we should have any of those things but I can understand how they are useful.

They are arresting pastors it just takes a quick google search to find out. People are taking pictures of license plates in wal mart parking lots. People are openly gloating about how they will report you if they THINK you are getting together for Easter.

It is just obstinate religious people who think the whole thing is fake news defying what they perceive as infringement. I don't get it either. We do our Sunday School class through Zoom. It works just fine. Like you said, pray at home. God is listening or he isn't.

Some pastors should be arrested tbh. I'm not really for it to go that far but I do think something should be done when stupid people do stupid things which will cause this to go on longer. That is one thing I don't understand. People are pissed that everything is shutting down so do things to make sure it is shut down longer.

Do you think we should keep the country shut down until every last person acquires and recovers? Or until there is a vaccine?

I hate using the word essential because at this point it makes me want to puke, but I'll use it here. Churches and religious services are not essential. They do not provide people food or medication or medical care. If you aren't doing one of those three things, there is no reason to let people inside. Just that simple.

I was thinking about the car industry the other day. You've probably already answered more than once, but for my sake, you guys still running a normal schedule? As far as I know, dealerships here in Kentucky are still allowing purchases, just no test driving. Which is probably killing sales anyways. But people need cars..
