Nope seems like a wash to me. Unless Bates surprises everyone and comes out shooting in the high 30’s next year. Wouldn’t bank on it but who knows.
Do you remember last year when 5* Lander was going to have such a huge impact. LOLOLOLOL!!!!

Actually Johnson only shot 32% last year in only 16 games before he quit on his team.
I looked at wrong year.....

As for quitting on his team, he was one of 5 that transferred in Feb, just days apart...But nevermind that little fact.

Durham isn’t close to Sasha, Stewart, Or Kopp as far as shooting 3s goes. That completely refutes your argument that the only thing that matters is 3pt%.

Durham’s career percentage (in 4 years compared to Kopp in 3) is almost identical. And unlike Kopp, Durham improved every year and shot 38% or better his last 2 years. It’s looking like Kopp had one outlier good season so far. Durham was more consistent. So tell me again how Durham isn’t close to Kopp? Lol

Please link to where I said Sasha is a great shooter. Pro-tip, I never have. “Great” is Salim Stoudamire.

Sasha: 41.0%, 38.3%, 40.0%
Stewart: 34.8%, 38.6%

One guy is more consistent and proven. Neither are “great”.
I love these responses....Maybe I'lll hire Hail to look it up.

34/38 isn't chopped liver.

For modern basketball, they are ok/good, definitely not great. Every team has several guys that shoot those percentages.

Edit: You were the one that brought up the fact that I said Sasha is a great shooter, which I never have. The burden of proof is on you for bringing it up.

Bates shot 44% from three as a Junior at Piper HS..

Scout Jerry Meyer ,among others describe Bates as an "accurate, deep shooter".

Not sure it would be much of a surprise if he shot in the high 30's, at all.

Maybe you said it, I dunno. I know many did----and on here. IMO, a dude who shoots 40% from three is pretty damn good.

Tell me you didn’t just quote his stats from junior year in high school lol. Lander was also a good shooter in high school.

From Sports Illustrated:

Bates is a threat to score as soon as he’s within NBA range.

I guess you decided to skip over where I said Jerry Meyer, among other scouting experts said he is an accurate shooter from deep...

And if it makes you feel better, he shot 40% from three at IMG Academy, as a SENIOR.

Lander was also a good shooter in high school.
Lander shot 34%, 35%, and 34% from three in HS. He was a streaky shooter. Thats a tad different than shooting over 40%. Not to mention, Lander simply was not ready for the college game. Good decision due to the experience....but bad decision due to him simply not be prepared for the college game.

I guess some of you just like to troll---probably your dislike for IU. If this were about a Purdue kid who shot 40% from three as a senior, it would be a different story.

Bates is a very good shooter---a huge upgrade at the "2", and is an elite scorer.

IU fans are so obsessed with raw stats and percentages without any context. Like how they claimed last year Ivey wasn’t good because his shooting percentage was so low. Lol. Completely moronic. Like they don’t even watch games.

Kopp is a 36% career shooter with only one season north of 33%. Far from great.

Great IMO is someone like Stefanovich or Cline. Kopp isn’t on that level.

Not sure what this would prove? Other than that Player 5 had an outlier, So. year? And that player two Improved greatly from his frosh to Soph year---but pretty much leveled out.

Just curious. Based on those numbers, who would you want?

I’m annoyed this is what Illinois signed up for, but if this play style makes us competitive, whatever.

It will surprise no one if Bates shoots 36%+.
Agree. I think it will surprise no one other than IU fans if he shoots <33% either. I've seen a hell of a lot of guys labeled as very good shooters over the years that struggle to shoot their first year.

I think Bates numbers will look very similar to Brandon Newman’s last year.

He likely will not be better than Kopp this season, but he’s a sniper. Your team has no excuse for not offering him. Your guards and wings have been subpar the past few years - especially the shooting.
Lol Bates >>>>>>>>> Goode

My God these teams suck. Wisconsin’s defense is the only thing worth seeing.

Hard to compare spot up shooters because them getting shots is almost heavily reliant on spacing and if their PG can get them open looks.
