Is he going to be the best backup center in the league? That’s certainly debatable and remains to be seen. I wouldn’t say it’s a good problem to have that two of your best players can’t be on the court at the same time, but that’s just me.
I'm fine if it's debatable - the point is that he's a guy that can go get you 20 off the bench. That's a good - not bad - problem to have lol

Yeah both. Depends on who the rest of the rotation is. I’m mostly expecting him to play the 3 while Johns, Diabate, and Dickinson get all the minutes at the 4-5.
Makes sense. I think he'd be a nice wrinkle as a stretch 4 as well, since Johns isn't really much of a shooter iirc.

Been a done deal for a while, just hadn’t been announced.

Not sure exactly what he’s going to bring to the Illini recruiting wise.

He’s a Meanstreets guy, and it sounds like Jalen Washington is about to commit to UNC and AJ Casey is like 5th on our PF hot board.
How hard are you after Huff? One of our mods put in a crystal ball for him for us. If any program in IL is good to us, its the wolves.

If I had to rank our PF target’s by talent.

1) Jarace Walker (longshot)
2.)a.)Braden Huff
b.)Cam Corhen
3.)Colin Smith
4.)AJ Casey

I couldn’t tell you how the staff is prioritizing them right now. Personally I’d take 2 with Huff and another target. But if we got a commit for Corhen, for example, would that turn Huff off and send him elsewhere?

The point is, Trevion and Edey aren’t going to average a combined 30 ppg and 20+ rebs. Trevion will still get the bulk of the minutes.

I’m all for Edey having a good year. He can follow Hunter, Sasha, Trevion, and Ivey right out the door after another early round exit in the tournament.
Tell me more about this tournament you speak of.

We just need to keep whispering Frank Kaminsky in his ear. And $1M NIL. That should sweeten the pot.

His recruitment is giving me some Kaminsky vibes. Really hoping we take a chance and wait on him for that position.

But I have a feeling Corhen is going to commit first and our chances with Huff will plummet.

I wouldn't be sad about that. We seemingly had Brumbaugh locked up and that appears to be a lost cause atm. Brumbaugh and Braden/Braeden (not sure which one is right) Moore had talked about teaming up in college but I was always higher on Huff than Moore. We are short on spots and may only take 1 so we can take 2-3 in '23. I'd take Huff and call it a day.

Who will be a better backup?

Yeah that would probably be his idea position it’s just 3 of your top 6 or 7 players are at the 4/5 so not many minutes there.

Just like I said, Jalen Washington committed to UNC. Purdue guys told me I was wrong, but the guy was not staying in the Midwest.

Yeah definitely that’s just you…not a single coach in the league is looking forward to a Tre/Edey matchup.

Since Purdue has a chance at a final 4, which key player has the season ending knee injury this year?

I think you could make the argument he was in the conversation for best backup center in the league last year lol.

Was it a problem when we had Haas and Hammons? Seemed to work out just fine and I think this duo could be even better next year.

He said for a long time he wanted to stay close to family and then he obviously changed his mind. UNC is also apparently making huge bids for some kids, which I said earlier, Purdue can’t compete with. Oh well.

My very brief viewings of Houstan make me think he's a little more polished, but not as athletic as Wagner. Kind of got some Georges Niang vibes from him - albeit with higher potential.

Gonna be really good at Michigan. You think he'll play the 3 and 4?
I think the 4 is Houston’s best college position and I think he’ll play there more this year than most are expecting. My reasoning is that I am not a big believer in Brandon Johns in a major role and I think Kobe Bufkin is going to be too good to keep off the court. Bufkin isn’t taking those minutes from Brooks so I see him playing a lot at the 3 and pushing Houston to the 4.

Jones
Brooks
Bufkin
Houston
Dickinson

is what I see as the main lineup by end of year

That would seemingly help enable Dickinson as well.

Bufkin, Johns, and Diabate should give Juwan options on line-ups. He can go small if needed, which can provide extra shooting around Dickinson.
