My uncertainty with Underwood is his 4 years at Illinois is his longest tenure. So basing his forecast off his rise is a bit reckless. This is Underwoods first year being ranked inside the top 30 of KP, painter has been there the past 6 years. And just to clarify, Illinois loses all 3 assistants, likely their two best players, and they are supposed to be a top 15 team?
Underwood isn’t going anywhere. There is a reason he hired Chester Frazier, he wants guys that are loyal to U of I because he’s going to be here for the long haul.

And we’ve been better than Purdue for the last two seasons FYI.
@Archetype19 just give us a conference record, conference finish, and NCAA seeding to put on the board.
I’ve made it pretty clear things are up in the air for next season. We have a week or two to find out what Kofi and Dawson Garcia will decide.

With neither 11-9, 5th or 6th in Conference. 7 or 8 seed

With Garcia 14-6, 3rd or 4th in conference. 4 or 5 seed

With Kofi 15-5, 2nd or 3rd in Conference. 2 seed

With both 17-3, toss-up for Conference with Michigan. 1 seed

Haven’t checked our schedule so this is just a rough guess.

Why isn’t Painter recruiting any big time guards to take the reigns after Ivey?

Genuinely curious, should be a decent sell with Ivey being on all the mocks for 2022.

He was lol. But the guy picked L$U. Worst case he’ll get some big-time guards in the ‘23 class.

Can you break it down how Underwood has Illinois on a better trajectory than Purdue? Would love to hear your explanation.
I think Underwood will be as good/roughly equal of a coach as Painter.

Im fully aware that he doesn’t have the resume, yet.

Based on who we have hired so far and who is getting the last two positions on our staff we will recruit better. 2022 will be big and 2023 will be even bigger for us.

I'm not saying he's going anywhere, but he's never had to continue a program. Will his style get old? Will it rub players and coaches the wrong way? I have no idea how you can say Illinois on a better trajectory when Underwood hasn't coached at one spot for this long. I'm just looking for signs that maybe he'll struggle being somewhere long term. Not sure what those signs might be.

Nick Irvin is getting a non-coaching position in the next couple weeks.

JJ Taylor will go to Illinois if he doesn’t go pro.

Kylan Boswell, a 5-star guard in Cali, grew up in Champaign.

That’s two 5-stars that are significant Illinois leans. Essentially filling in guys to play around them.

Owen Freeman, Jeremy Fears, and Matas Buzelis are all super high as well.

Wade is proof that if you aren’t cheating, you aren’t trying hard enough.

NCAA has the friggin tapes and still won’t sack up.

Any other names he might go after in 2022? Or just gonna see who hits the portal next year?

So basing the Illinois future not only on their recruiting class that hasn't played but recruits who haven't even committed?

Not sure on the guard front. Jalen Washington is the big fish still out there but he’s a 4.

The signs aren’t there, you can continue looking though.

His hires this year show he’s setting setting his roots in.

That may be true but not sure how you can make the jump to Illinois having a better trajectory than Purdue moving forward.

How recruits view your program is how you determine who has a better trajectory. It’s not like we don’t have building blocks on our roster already.

Jalen Washington views our program in a very positive way but that doesn’t mean we’re gonna land him lol. Only recruit I’ll say we’re gonna land hand’s down is Myles Colvin because his dad was a stud here and it’s only a matter of time until he commits. Purdue already has the players. Illinois is HOPING to get the players.

We have a staff with ties to both the Meanstreets and Mac Irvin Fire along with loaded classes in 2022, 2023, and 2024.

Illinois is bigger brand nationally than Purdue, and we have no in-state competition for talent.

How do recruits view your program? Your best recruit in 2021 was Luke Goode. Very average.

You don’t even have a top 100 ranked recruit in 2022 yet. Maybe you should land some of these highly ranked recruits before you start talking about how great your recruiting is.

Rivals ranks Sencire Harris 59th nationally, he committed this morning. First domino of many.

Podz is better than Goode btw.

You were telling me last night that composite rankings are the only ones that matter when I said you had 3 five stars last year. Well Harris is ranked 109th in the composite rankings. Goode is ranked above “Podz”.

Lol good luck basing your future on those two AAU programs. I absolutely agree that Illinois is a bigger brand (no shit because they’re the state school and have zero competition in their own state unlike Purdue). But hey it’s hard to be less relevant than you’ve been so that’s something I guess.

Let’s not use “zero competition” so lightly. They were knocked out of the tournament by an in state mid major 😂.

LOL…does anyone still believe that Rabby isn’t completely full of sht?

After how badly he botched the Kaufman-Renn recruitment, it was obvious how big of a clown he was. Then his whole Myles Colvin thing about no way IU would get involved and then days later he gets offered and proceeds to call him a “mid-major plus” guy lol.

I guess the plan is back up the brinks truck so that the Chicago players that have historically gone elsewhere stay in state.

Either way Ayo was only one with a 5th star on any site. So you might wanna do some research.

Rivals and 247 have Sencire and Podz around 60 for their classes.
ESPN rankings are garbage and throw composite way off.

Rabby - No decision has been made. No one knows anything except for the Kaufman family.

Purdue staff, AD, and fans on this board - Dafuq? He committed to Painter personally a week ago.

It was so much fun watching the trainwreck of Rabby and Peegs that week.

247 has Harris 93 and “Podz” 67th. Those aren’t even top 10 Big Ten recruits in their classes.

Also, if ESPN rankings are garbage, why did you say Kylan Boswell is a 5*? He is unranked by rivals and 247.
