*Official* B1G Off-season Thread

We spent a week at RMNP Sept 8-15 last month for the 2nd straight year. Love that place. Leaves were turning this time and the elk were bugling. Weather was awesome. 75 and sunny every day. Last year in August I think it rained almost every day.
Yeah, it tends to still rain every afternoon in the summer. But you can get lucky and miss the afternoon storm.

but agree, it's absolutely beautiful and great to see all the wildlife. we saw 3 moose the other day. unfortunately no elk - there have been a couple poaching incidents recently in RMNP and I'm thinking that may have spooked them. we need hear some loud elk calls though.

Izzo was saying that he has NBA potential. First step is explosive. Shot is wayyyyyy better than expected. Drawing comparisons to Alan Anderson, one of my favorite Spartans of all time.

My buddy is the filming director for all of the videos they put out of the team so he gets to go to some of the practices. He told me Henry will most definitely be he best freshman on the team next season.

I’d say he probably starts over McQuaid by the end of the season.
Henry's going to be really, really good.

We’ve never went a day without seeing elk but we typically ride around the park before dark and see them. But we’ve seen them middle of the day too most everyday. Saw moose frequently too, especially around Sprague Lake. Sucks on the poaching. There are some giant bulls around.

Despite a disappointing season (while there were some injuries, the bigger factor was that some of the SR leadership had their own agendas), Collins is putting together a nice class.

Robbie Beran - 4* PF (78th player according to 247)

Jared Jones - 3* C (181st) - Basically the replacement for Pardon.
But for an injury-plagued season, would be ranked higher, but has 15 P5 offers.

Daniel Buie - 3* PG - late bloomer, may be the answer at PG (losing Lathon, a 4* PG due to schollie being pulled, from the prior class prevented the 2018 class from being excellent; would have had 3 4* and 1 3*),

Based on the 2018 and 2019 classes, the 'Cats will have plenty of length in the front court. More work needs to be done at the guard spots.

Yeah that makes sense. I'll check out Sprague Lake -- haven't been there before. I had never been without seeing elk either, but we did hear a couple loud calls.

On Memorial Day we got to the park around 5:45a and saw 60+ elk including some massive bulls, 3 moose, and a bunch of marmot on an 18 mile hike to/from Lawn Lake and Crystal Lake.

The girlfriend really likes to snowshoe in the winter up there, which is a bit much for me tbh but I'll still do it from time to time. Not really looking forward to that.

is this our first Northwestern fan (outside of @Mgkcbb being obsessed with Collins)? welcome

1.) Please stick around. Like having as many representatives as possible here.

2.) Did the full reasoning ever come out on Lathon? I heard it was not academics and heard a few rumors, but nothing was ever substantiated.

I believe it is.

Collins needed to keep that momentum going last year and flopped badly.
I've wondered if that was a team that just played above its ceiling the year before, then came back down to earth. Or if it was a good team that got cocky after a magical run to the round of 32 (lol) and went on cruise control.

I do wonder if Nebraska is similar. I think that team absolutely played to their ceiling last year and I'm curious if they can truly make much of a stride forward.

McIntosh did not vibe well with others I have read. They had some real team chemistry issues.

Nebraska needs to for miles sake. That roster is pretty damn solid. It could go either way for sure.

I think it was predominantly the former with a splash of the latter.

They had a fairly weak list of wins in their NCAAT season. It wasn't until they surprised Wisconsin @ Kohl's that they had a strong win. They had some bad losses too.

I mean he never should've been a ball dominant point guard. He's good, but there's a reason his career numbers are hideous.

As for Nebraska, I love watching how hard they play. Just wonder if they can take a big step forward.

Nebraska seems to flop with expectations. Will be interesting to see how they do this year.

The moose have always been standing in the water at Sprague when we've seen them. It's a flat mile loop around the lake.

One morning we went out fairly early, 7am, and hiked the cub lake trail but only out about half mile to a rocky point where about 50 elk were grazing. Watched them for over an hour up close. The herd bull was bugling and chasing the younger ones away.

I probably wouldn't even be able to make it to Lawn Lake, much less back to the start. haha. We did Gem and Haiyaha lakes this time. Plus some repeats from the prior year. Gem and Haiyaha were incredible.

it's the same team that missed the nccat, but you lose Anton Gill, Evan Taylor and Tschimanga . not seeing it

Feels good to be back home and am pleasantly surprised Purdue made the top 5 for Zeke and gets the last official if he doesn’t pop before then.

Idk about you @Da_Bull but I was pretty disappointed with Rome in general. Still had a great time of course but my least favorite city on this trip.

How in the world were you disappointed in Rome? Granted, Ive never been there but am interested to hear why. Guess I just assume it would be awesome.

Thought it was going to be my favorite city on this trip as well. Just too touristy for me. You walk by the colosseum in the day and you’ll have 30 people hound you for guided tours and stuff. I was looking forward to seeing the Sistine chapel and stuff but they led you in like hogs for slaughter with no room to walk freely/relax, etc. Plus you could be sitting outside eating at a nice restaraunt and have people come up to you trying to sell you junk before being shooed away by the manager.

Don’t get me wrong, a lot of breathtaking stuff and wouldn’t mind going again but far from my favorite.

I liked it. I was told before hand you only needed a few days in Rome, enough for the Vatican and Colosseum/Ancient ruins. We got in on an early tour of the Vatican and got in before the crowd. My only gripe was the guys outside every restaurant. Granted me and the wife love big cities so we enjoyed it. 2 days was plenty of time though, not really much else honestly to do once you do the tours. Where else did you go?

That's both crazy, and extremely sad! I've never been, but its disappointing to hear that the most powerful country this world has ever seen can be seen in 2 days. I would have hoped that there was so much to see and do, it'd be impossible to see and experience everything during a single trip.

I like big cities too so I guess I shouldn’t say “touristy” as much as I’ve never seen a city that hounds tourists so much.

We also went to Munich for Oktoberfest which was so badass and Venice which I also really enjoyed.

They are talking only about Rome, not the entire country of Italy.

Of course, I understand that...but the city of Rome was the centerpiece of the Roman empire

I'm assuming he's referring to Eastern's negative assist to turnover ratio (barely, 39 to 40), and poor shooting percentages (41% from FT, 48.3% overall FG%)

I'm sure that is part of it. It's also really odd that a "PG" has an offensive rebounding percentage of 10.3% That would have been 7th in the Big Ten had he played more than 40% of Purdue's minutes.

Man, I don't envy you all at all when it comes to dealing with Treed lol. I can imagine the whole thought process all of you all experienced....

1st. Wow, it's cool that we have such great access to a family of a player!

2nd. I'm sure she will understand that I really like watching her son play, but I've got to say this one little criticism of his game.

3rd. Wow, I must have caught her on a bad day....I'm sure the next time it will be better

4th. This time, I'm going to list 10 great things about him before I say the 1 very minor thing. Theres no way anyone could get upset with this ass kissing that's about to happen.

5th. Wow, she's way too overprotective, but I get it, it's her son.

6th. Shit this lady is crazy

No matter what you do, its going to be a negative. If you call her out for the crazy things she says... you're a pos for saying anything negative to a mom. But, if you don't say anything, everyone criticizes you for agreeing with her because you never said anything.

I sincerely think something there isn't completely right.

One of many reasons (like troll IU fans) why I very rarely visit our free board.

I don’t feel bad. Now they know how we feel when their main board slappies stumble over here.

Might have to redo Big Ten preseason rankings. Had Michigan first, but I'm not so sure on them. Top two players (Mathews and Simpson) returning shot 31 and 28 percent from 3. They'll be good but I'm not so sure about first in league.

Soamy important sites across the Mediterranean though. Be hard to ever see them all.
