Sounds like Mgbako was around 26% from 3 and in the low 60’s from the foul line during AAU ball. I do wonder what kind of role/impact Cupps will have.
I pay little attention to AAU stats..

I like Cupps. Gonna be a really good, 4-year dude. Unless Gunn improves a ton, I could see him getting some good minutes. He's better than most think

Anyway, congrats on the Mgbako commitment IU fans
HUge get.....I was on my way to baseball game when my buddy text...I thought he was ****ing with me. Pulled over, googled it, and was like--"**** yes..."---Pretty sure people next to me in the parking lot felt I was on shrooms..

Based on the nba scouting I’ve read the past week, it seems like he’ll be a competent three point shooter. I won’t act like I’m an expert in his game but his shooting strike does look good.

I agree with you they’ll still add another shooter. They still have another scholarship open and are still reaching out to transfers. The guard from Marshall Andrew Taylor probably makes a lot of sense. Even if it’s not him, I’d be shocked if that scholarship isn’t filled. Mike absolutely worships Galloway, but I think they know they have to improve their competent guard depth and supplement their outside shooting.

Still need some shooters I’d imagine?
Don't anticipate Galloway shooting as well as he did last year but still more than capable. Johnson is also a good shooter. Those two with Cupp and Gunn should be alright. Not great but passable with the other weapons we have.

Any guess at a starting 5 as things stand right now?

Who knows, but I'd guess something like Johnson, Galloway, Mgkabo, Reneau, Ware. Seems like that is gonna be a very solid lineup. May not be National Championship type, but I'd guess we're a tournament team. Anything passed that, I am going to reserve judgement until I see us play.

Beating little brother 26-11 in baseball is comical.

That's a backyard wiffleball score.

Who is the the 4 in that scenario? Seems Iike that lineup would take away from a lot of the players strengths at their position.

That 3/4/5 wouldn’t seem to be a huge threat from distance either.

I've seen enough analysts compliment MMs ability to shoot from outside to be acceptable. We've also seen enough of a Mike Woodson offense to realize he likes his 4/5s to compliment each other inside.

I think that 3/4/5 would be just fine. We don't need all five guys playing on the perimeter. Mgkabo is talked about as one of if not the best offensive player in 2023. I think it will be just fine. The kid is an offensive threat. Add in Galloway and X and I think we'll be able to shoot the three just fine.

Anything more on the twin towers NIL play?

Portal has closed so maybe next season.

If the rumor that Hunt Dick is getting 4 million over two years is true, I think Kansas blew their load.

Gotta wonder what Edey was thinking when he heard that NIL amount.

How many teams have guys at the 4/5 that are huge threats(from distance)? I think IU gets enough perimeter production from X, Gallo, Gunn and Cupps. It would be nice to see MM or Banks produce from distance----but I don't see it as a need.

Think that our 3-5 besides the Ball St. transfer big will be happy putting up 15 3s a game this season, maybe more.

Would not surprise me if they have a big advantage in 3 pt attempts over the guards.

Being long and athletic, they will feast on the offensive glass when the bombs aren't going down.

MM looks to be a beast in the open court btw.

Edey will get a really good NIL deal if he comes back. I doubt he’s too worried about it.

What are the odds he actually comes back? After the season he had last year, just seems like it makes more sense to stay in the draft. Can't really get higher than what he did this past year. But stranger things have happened before.

Does Purdue fall out of the rankings if Edey does stay in the draft?

Seems like it’s 75/25 of him returning. It’d take a team telling him they’d take him late in the first for him to leave IMO.

And FWIW I believe Torvik has Purdue #1 with him returning and #21 or so if he were to leave. Which I think would be about right.

If he's not in the first round this year, after the year he had, I would guess he's unlikely to be a first round guy. What more does he have to prove? He already won the conference, won awards and had a pretty ridiculous season outside of the historic first round loss in the tournament. Just feels like more downside to returning.

I don't think Purdue would be a Top 25 team if Edey doesn't come back. They wouldn't be bottom of the barrel B10 or anything, but they wouldn't be a top four or five team either. I'd guess middle of the road B10.

He’s just never going to be an nba guy though. He can make more money at Purdue than he can playing professionally next season. But maybe he’s tired of college too, who knows? But the tea leaves have seemed to be that he’ll be back.

And I’m shocked you believe that lol

I think it's still a bit TBD on Johnson as a shooter. In 45 games at IU, he's shooting a solid 46-121 (38%) from three but if you break it down:

Against KenPom Tier A opponents - 16-55 (29.1%)
Against KenPom A+B opponents - 25-82 (30.4%)
Against all other opponents - 17-39 (43.6%)

He's largely gotten fat against weaker opponents. doesn't mean he can't be a good shooter. Just that he's inconsistent, particularly against better teams.

To be fair I assumed the same thing for TJD. Thought he would have been gone after last season. But I think he improved his stock more this year by coming back. Not sure Edey can do much more to improve his stock is what I'm saying. I think both he and TJD are gonna be second round guys.

I think Edey can find a role in the NBA. Never gonna be a star or anything like that, but he can make a roster.

I'm not saying he's going to be some sort of high volume shooter or anything like that, but he can knock them down. Weird ass shot, but he can make them. If he shoots 38% for the season, I would be happy.

If Ware is working his ass off this off-season, he should be able to provide spacing from the 5 to offset the lack of shooting from Reneau.

MgBako is another one who should improve, basically spent his entire HS career shooting from deep as a stretch 4.

REALLY looking forward to see how we play Ware, Reneau and Mgbako together. Gonna be TOUGH.
