*Official* B1G In-Season Thread

Leading Freshman rebounder and shotblocker left off the list......

Purdue fans. I went to your board to congratulate you guys on Painter getting COY but holy hell is that board disgusting. The MSU/UM thread talks more about rape, molestation, and all around filth than it does the actual game.

What in the hell is going on in that cesspool of a home board?

It’s a free board. Most of them are awful lol.

maybe he finally got credit for what he did as a FR and SO when had 175 assist and 85 3's as a FR. then he follows is up with this as a SO
175+ assists and 85+ made 3's just the 1st player in the last 25 years to post those numbers in back to back season and got shit on in the post season awards those 2 years. shooting 214 3 PA and making 85 3's for 41.5%
then as a SO 233 3PA 96 3PM for 43%

and he got shit for his efforts.

this year Jordan was the focus of every teams defense resulting in this
188 3PA 73 3PM

all he needs is 12 more made 3's to have 3 straight season with 85 made 3's not many if anybody will do that.

Cline was still better.

247 to 122, maybe how you look at it thats a 125 spot improvement

some say 100% some might say better than 50% either way a 125 spot improvement is pretty damn good, now we will see how much better this team is adding these
7' Nunge 25 blocks 2nd on the team 21 steals T-2nd on the team
6'8 Pemsl 144 rebounds 3rd on the team led the team is shooting @56.5% from the field [by one site] never could figure those sites out as to which were accurrate
ESPN shows Epenesa with 11 sacks
Yahoo shows Epenesa with 10.5 sacks

so pick your poison.

both will be a big addition to the team in the 19-20 season long before the 3 players in the 19 class steps foot on the floor.
You started at 247 as your base. It is mathematically impossible to improve by 100% since you can’t get to 0:

247 - 122 = 125
125 / 247 = 50.6%

Literally 5th grade math.

Edit: Your posts are so long that I didn’t actually read it before responding. Kudos for figuring out your mistake.

Edit: 247 is so so so bad that even with a 50% improvement, Iowa is still a terrible defensive team. You will need another 50% next year to be somewhat respectable (although it still be near the bottom of the B1G).

Why are you quoting stats for an Iowa football player?

so sue me. that improved defense led to the improved record
4-14 to 10-10
11-19 to 21-10,

next season will see if Iowa improves on defense next season who knows what their record will be.

Maybe they’ll finally get out of the B1G basement as far as defenses go.

in the 12-13 season their ADJ D was 33rd. their worst in a 4 year stretch was 74th with one in the mid 40's and the other in the mid 50's. SO Fran knows how to coach defense.

Kenny Goins is the best walk on in the Big Ten in the modern era

I ‘d debate that....And take Grady Eifert over him any day. Both can shoot, both play D but Eifert does it all.... Rarely if ever will you see Goins diving for a ball or taking a charge where as both happens pretty much every game with Eifert.

Can we please get the links to the posts about Ryan Cline?
This all I could find. But I'm sure that there are a handful of posters who will dig in on the "PuRdUe FaNs ArE sUcH hOmErS" trope they've been trotting out all year.

Possibly honorable mention but wouldn’t surprise me if he didn’t make any of the All B1G teams. Mathias had a similar year stat-wise last year and was only Honorable Mention.

Also, in celebration of All-Big Ten teams being selected in a couple days, I thought I'd dig these gems up.

I have sneaking suspicion Cline will be a 3rd teamer or at worst Honorable Mention.

He'll end up honorable mention for sure. No way he makes 3rd team with so many good players in the B1G.

I guess he just forgot these last 2 years.
no its more about the youth
17-18 team top 6 were 4 SO's and 2 FR.
18-19 Top 6 were 1 RSSR 4 JR's and 1 FR
This team played without 2 of the top 6 from the 17-18 team and yet they still improved 125 spots on defense.

nobody expected the team defense to improve this much from last season.

SNU & JayCG def deleted them then because I literally looked them up and posted them the other day.

EDIT: the post you just linked from me should have quotes from SNU & Jay

I could never and still can't buy in that he was near good defensively as Mathias. I have no facts to back that up other than an eye test and some very firm anti-Purdue bias.

Saw JBo at third team and decided to check his numbers. Figured he was close to a line of 15/3/3. Nope. Dude went 12/2/3 and shot 38% from the field with not much difference between non con and Big Ten.

Apparently the coaches forgot about the first 35 minutes of the game.

Eh I think you oversold him a little, but technically right I guess.
Purdue fans never made him out to be a god, it's that we were debating IU fans who were saying they'd take McRoberts over him, that McRoberts was a similar shooter but better at everything else, that Cline was nothing but a spot up shooter, that there wasn't a chance he'd play at IU, etc.

He was clearly much more than that and was a big reason we won the league.

Mathias was far better defensively. Cline had just as good as a year offensively if you ask me considering he was asked to do a lot and took far more tough shots than Mathias.

True, good point. but didn't you also say Evan B was going to be a top player for Purdue this season??
I defintiely oversold him and I own that. It’s just that Jay & SNU literally can’t just admit their takes on Cline weren’t that great.

This. I’ll own up to being wrong about Boudreaux too. Definitely didn’t live up to my expectations.

They went back and deleted them? Clearly triggered.

Searching Cline in the off season thread got me this when talking about making an All B1G team.

That being said there are some serious takes that need to be deleted before @CardinalBoiler logs on. @NC_Trojan10 has some hot takes.
Ask and ye shall receive...

IU will definitely be a tournament team. With Purdue I'm not so sure.

Purdue is one of the worst teams in the Big Ten this year and Texas was at home. Not that impressive.

Meh......I'd take Phinisee over Eastern. IMO, not really close. Phinisee a better shooter, facilitator, scorer, etc, etc...Eastern a better defender. After that, its all probably a push.

One of the worst teams in the Big 10 was a bit strong but they are definitely a back half of the Big 10 team this year.

Michigan
MSU
Nebraska
IU
Wisconsin
OSU
Maryland all look better to me

Even Minnesota, Iowa, and Northwestern have all had their moments, I see Purdue fighting it out with them for 8th place or so.

Purdue has a great class coming in and will likely be fine going forward. But like I said coming into the year, anybody that actually thought this Purdue team as anything but a bubble team is simply delusional.

You can't lose what they lost (adding in Painter's struggles in recruiting the last few years) while not missing a beat, it just won't happen. I was laughing at some of you who actually thought Purdue would stay in the top 25. There simply isn't enough talent there
.

I'm not sure PU could beat PSU.

IU>Purdue this year, bottom line.

Purdue is a bubble team

This is what happens when you can’t take advantage of the success on the recruiting trail.

2015 - 37 (great two and done player, but otherwise meh)
2016 - 107 (just a one player class but struck gold)
2017 - 34 (role players with Wheeler a chance to be a star)
2018 - 48 (no immediate contributors)

This is the current team. Painter missing out on top targets in these classes has been an absolute killer. Now these players can develop and Purdue could begin to have a couple years of success but that was never going to happen this year.

Carsen dropped 40 points and the team lost. Painter has no one to blame but himself.

Unfortunately for Purdue fans 2019 is more of the same.

Lol, exactly. Their wins are horse shit.

I can see Carson Edwards as the NIT MVP though. He is playing well.

Trae Young last year is a perfect example. Oklahoma started off hot, but later on in the season he and the team completely fell apart. I look for something similar from Purdue this year.

They will lose every game that he has an off night, and with that much of a workload he willl have plenty. There simply isn't any talent around him and like I said coming into the season, Purdue is an NIT club at best this year. Nobody is going to score 40 points on 25 shots every night with teams keying on him. Simply nobody, and even with that performance they still lost to Texas.

Langford, Morgan, Smith, Green and Phinisee are all more athletic than anybody on Purdue's roster outside of Carsen.

By the way what about Cline, Boudreaux, Williams, and Eifert? 2 starters a 6th man, and another rotation player. Haarms lol he has great hair though I'll give him that.

Purdue plays hard, but they are easily one of the least athletic teams in the Big10.

Purdue fans thinking about 17-18
tenor.gif

Carsen and Wheeler are athletic. Nojel and Haarms not so much. Nojel has more missed dunks in his career than actual dunks.

Carson is a stud I'll give you that, I don't know how I forgot about him. I don't get the love for Eastern, he's simply a bad basketball player. Can't shoot, can't score, terrible free throw shooter, and has a terrible assist to turnover ratio for a point guard. He is tall, defends well against players his size, and that's really it.

I've seen nothing out of Haarms that says he's as athletic as anyone I named. He's 7"3 and he averages 4 rpg, that's abysmal. All of the guys I named average at least 3rpg and two of them are point guards.

2 of your starters ( Haarms, Eifert) and your 6th man (Boudreaux) look like they belong in the YMCA league. Purdue lacks talent, I mean you're 6-5 I don't know why you're arguing this.

Last year IU lacked talent and I was the first to admit it, we were a bad basketball team. I don't think we're great this year by any means. We are better than Purdue though no question.
