How many Purdue responses are we going to see complaining about an easier path for some coaches?! Lol!

Two sweet 16’s in a row? Wow. Impressive. Who has the most in the last 8 years?
Not sure. Wisconsin?

I know two in a row doesn't sound impressive. It's why I was suprised to learn only 6 teams have done it. Given that, it must be harder than it sounds.

That actually makes me question his coaching. All those wins and top 4 seeds and he only has 2 sweet 16s to show for it?
IMO talent becomes more important once you reach the postseason. But coaching can compensate for a lack of talent in the regular season much more easily. As I said in the initial post, I'd rank Painter about 6th or 7th as a recruiter, behind Izzo, Beilein, Turgeon, Miller and Holtmann for sure. I'd put him solidly in 3rd when it comes to game planning and in game coaching.

Last 8 years? Yes, it's us in the B1G.
We have 6 S16 from 2011 to 2018, missing 2013 and last year.

So glad i subscribed to synergy stats. It takes the guesswork out of shitting on fools.
Yeah... synergy stats are the same stats that tried to say that Purdue ran zone almost 20% of the time a year or so ago. Anything that gets stats THAT wrong isn't worth two shits. Maybe it is a good service, but anyone that knows anything about Purdue knows that we NEVER run zone.

I would agree pretty much with this. How would you rank him as a player developer? I'd have to say 1 or 2 in the B1G.

Hell, I think we have to get past Penn State first. They are playing as well as any team in the Big Ten. 6-2 in their last 8 with a close loss at Wisky and a 12 point loss at Purdue and we won't have the Mackey crowd this time.
Yup....I don't want to play Penn state either. With how this seasons gone, it wouldn't surprise me too much if the championship game is between Penn St AMD Rutgers.

With how most of the best players in college don't stay to see their 3rd year, it doesn't surprise me at all that there were only 6 teams.

Eh I think Purdue matches up better against Penn St than Minny. They were the team I didn’t want to see.

You are certainly entitled to that opinion.

In the last 5 years, here are the conference wins by Big Ten program:

Purdue 69
MSU 67
Wisconsin 61
Maryland 57
Michigan 56
OSU 52
Iowa 48
IU 48
Nebraska 36
Northwestern 34
Illinois 33
Minnesota 32
PSU 32
Rutgers 16

Additionally:
  • Purdue is one of just 6 teams nationally to play in the Sweet 16 the last two seasons
  • Purdue will be one of just 6 teams nationally to receive a top 5 seed each of the last 4 years

Given that Purdue hasn't been anywhere near the most talented team in the Big Ten in that period, that's a sign of some damn impressive coaching to me.

All that history and you won't even tell us when the last time Purdue actually won one of those Sweet 16 games?

Which makes it weird to me that a Purdue poster would get defensive about @SNU0821 saying Izzo and Beilein are the best two coaches in the conference.
Yeah weird to see him trying to back up his claim. It’s not close. It’s never been close. Izzo and Beilein have adequately demonstrated they are two of the best in the country. Not knocking Painter, the other two are just two of the best. Painter is not.

You should read more closely. I’ll quote what I said again for you.

And I'm not sure he's putting Painter above Izzo but rather suggesting he's in the same grouping with Izzo and Beilein. I'd agree with that on coaching but recruiting knocks him down below them in my book.

You do know what knocks him down below means, right?
