*Official* B1G In-Season Thread

Last year Simpson outplayed him twice. All I kept hearing before the first matchup was that Simpson would own Winston/ shut him down, and from some idiot UM fans (usually the Walmart wolverines) that Simpson was the superior player.

Winston had 2 great games against UM. Winston outplayed him twice.

You fed into this narrative as well.

I seem to recall you posting early in the season how Michigan is a tough matchup for Msu and that it was a function of the point guard battle.

This might have been the first year Michigan has been the preseason favorite for a lot of people. It kind of sucks in hindsight. 15-5 and finishing 3rd is a good season but still feels like this team underachieved.
They did. Should have beaten MSU at home, and had no business losing to shitty Iowa or Penn State.

It's not an apples to apples comparison.

Baer scored more and rebounded more when Iowa was a trash team 2 out of the last 4 years. This will be only his 2nd ncaa tournament, this year. No banners.

Goins played behind NBA lottery picks in Miles Bridges, JJJ, has won 2 B1G titles, and has made 4 straight NCAA tournaments. And he's better than Baer in every statistical category this year.
2 seasons ago when there was just SR in Jok who led the BT in scoring and there were 4 FR Starters that team went 10-8 BT and 19-15 with their best wins over Michigan, Purdue and Wisconsin.
not a trash team but the 13th youngest team in D1
last season they had 3 SO's and 2 FR starters and SO Pemsl as the top 6 scorers, they had to replace Jok and his numbers
19.9 ppg led the BT and the team, 5.5 rpg 2nd on the team behind Baer, 34 steals behind Baer. 42.6% from the field Pemsl led the team in % at 61.7% and 38% from 3 3rd behind Jordon's 41.6% and Baer 39.7% from 3.

that was quite a bit to replace,
there was no SR leadership on last seasons team

if you look at history is repeating as JR's Gesell and Woodbury they went 12-6 with a 1st round NCAAT win
as SR's they went 12-6 with their 2nd 1st round NCAAT win
this season with Jordan and Cook as JR'S are going to the NCAAT
next season when these are SR's the records could/should be better than this season.

under Fran the older the player get the better the results are. they only lose 6'7 Baer but they replace him with 4* top 100 player in 6'9 Patrick plus the bonus of PG 4* Toussaint out of NY by ESPN.

then the 2 players that finished in a T-5th in scoring return from a RS year, in 6'8 Pemsl and 7'0+ Nunge.

It’s tough because of the injuries Izzo has dealt with makes it close.

Winston over Edwards
Closer, yes, but Painter should still win COTY over Izzo. Returned 1 starter, only had two rivals top 100 players (Edwards and Eastern), and won a share of the B1G despite being projected near the middle of the pack preseason.

Iowa is not a shitty team other than in your delusional mind. Iowa is still in the quad 1 for teams
'
here are the teams that Iowa has last too
Wisconsin #12 by Kenpom
MD #18 by Kenpom
OSU #44 by Kenpom
Minnesota #46 by Kenpom.
Rutgers #72
not a bad loss in those last 5 losses.

Are you saying Painter gets bonus point because Izzo is a better recruiter?
You may disagree with it but that's how people who actually have votes tend to vote. The coach who does more with less tends to win the award.

Will be interesting to see what some of the bracketology people say, but I am not so sure this win doesn’t put IU in the field.

IUs resume is much much better than any others on the bubble and I keep going back to Oklahoma last year. Everyone had them on the bubble but the committee has them in easily as a 10 seed.

A win against Ohio State of course will be welcomed to not be in the play in game but I think IU is in regardless.

Has a team with 17 wins ever made the tournament aside from winning their conference tournament?

Well, I don't think you are in yet.
I don't think you are in even if you beat OSU, depending on how other bubble teams do.
Now if you win two in the B1G tourney, you are def. in.

Win(against OSU) and IU is in and lose and theyre out is the consensus Ive seen.

It looks like IU will get a reeling OSU team on Friday with is a gift for sure.

There’s a chance Indiana is in now. No doubt they beat OSU and they’re in, still a chance if the lose but the bubble is weak and all depends on midmajor conference tournaments. The way they’re playing I wouldn’t be surprised if the won the BTT and go in as a 5 seed.

This is where I am too.

What a cool moment to end the Penn State game. Little played Deivis Zemgulis hits a 35 footer at the buzzer to finish off his PSU career.

Well you’d be wrong
Lunardi had you first four out. Yes he sucks but assuming he's right, do you really think a home win over Rutgers is the result that pushes you past other another bubble team?

I tend to lean this direction as well. However, the strong finish to end the season will also be a factor.

When you look at resumes and SOS it isn’t close really.

It’s why the B1G continue to be innovative. Going to 20 games helps bring in more teams from your conference.

One he blows...two that’s why I go to Oklahoma last year.

If the committee compares resumes it’s an absolute no brainer

Also yes another win, when all other teams are not playing pushes them in front
