*Official* B1G In-Season Thread

Zero bad losses? But u have 15 good losses then? Boy, for a blue blood program IU has fallen so far. Participation trophies are right around the corner I'm assuming.

If Bob Knight were already dead, he would be rolling in his grave at "no bad losses." IU should be pissed at this season. Squeaking in cuz the bubble is the worst in hoops history is nothing to be happy about. The team underachieved tremendously and will be losing the two best players off it. Archie still has a lot to prove IMO.

I have said many many times this is the most dissappointing season I can remember as a fan.

As Bull said that is in reference to the eyes of the committee IU currently has zero bad losses and a couple of great wins and plenty of good wins.

After the dissappointing month and half in January/February am I not supposed to be excited that the team has beaten two top 25 teams and then had their best offensive performance of the season on the road?

Somehow this team has a chance to make the tournament and that makes me happy. Doesn’t mean I am not disappointed about the season overall. I am certainly not going to be mad if this team makes the tournament.
 
My guess is we are better off losing in the first round of the BIG 10 tourney. It would help us drop out of an 8/9 game and would help Indiana get it.

I am not sure if losing to Nebraska woukd help too.


Would much rather be an 11 or 12, than an 8/9.

injuries to McBob and Davis don't excuse losing 12 out of 13. Phinesse played for like 3/4 of those games too.

Losses to NW, Rutgers, Nebraska. I mean come on.
 
Speaking of McBob it was nice to see him get a few minutes and make a couple of hustle plays like he did last year. Tip out for an open three rings a bell. The thought was he was going to get shutdown so it’s nice to see a kid like that play his last few career games

I watched them I get it and don’t disagree. There was some coaching, there were some injuries, there were some locker room issues. It was a true dumpster fire. The team now is as healthy has they have ever been, Archie took over the locker room and since Minnesota the team has played well. Even with a couple of losses it’s been a nice turnaround.

Hunter has been out all year. Race has been out most of the year. Davis clearly is a guy we needed as much time for who missed games. Then you get to Rob. If you listen to not only Archie, but other B10 coaches as well, Rob is just now getting back to form. So think about that (tough for you, I know, but give it a shot). He was out for a handful of games. It's not like he comes back 100%. Archie talked about it. Hell, Underwood mentioned it last night too, that we're finally starting to see Rob back to form. So yes, his injury is clearly a big deal to this team.

So again, context matters.

Yup. We've had a whole host of issues this year. I just hope we keep this momentum going. Gotta take care of business at home Saturday.

Definitely respect the toughness. I've had a stress fracture in a foot and that shit is painful. To think he's playing in B1G games on that is impressive.

Nebraska was fully healthy and Ken Pom 15 at the time of that loss.

It was a miserable performance but Nebraska wasn’t what they were about to become

Yikes. Yeah, sucks for a kid to end his career like that but at least he's giving it a go. Still an impressive run to go from a low/mid-major to rolling the dice and walking on at what I'm assuming is his dream school and becoming a rotation guy.

He and Grady Eifert are pretty good stories at each program.

That's all well and good, but injuries matter. It has an impact on a team. If it's not obvious the difference in this team when it's healthy and not healthy, I don't know what to tell ya.

There were multiple issues no doubt but you can't argue the past 5 games. Just as much as Archie gets blame for the 38 game slide he gets credit for getting them turned in the right direction. Make the tournament 5-6 games ago was an insane thought, now its very much a possibility.

I would say it's likely as long as we win on Saturday. Win on Saturday and I think we're close to a 50% chance of getting in. Win one game in the BTT and I think we're damn near a lock.

In a simplistic view sure, but have you ever been apart of a high major basketball program? Do you understand everything that goes into it? Painter had a rough two years, do you think he just forgot how to coach and suddenly remembered what to do? How does a guy go from winning 20+ games a year for 6 years then finish at the bottom of the league two years in a row? There's no magic wand.

Year 2 of a new campaign. The expectations will rise see the firing of Crean.

Archie wasn’t Calipari and be able to bring 4 five stars to turn it around it takes time. We expected more this season no doubt but it’s been a nice turn around and gives hope for the future where 4 weeks ago a lot wanted Archie fired.

The question was asked on this board if Indiana will win another game this season.

That question is ridiculously over the top and asinine. Anyone who asked it or answered "no" doesn't know college basketball. And since now you've won a couple games that should make this season a success.

The last thing I’m worried about is his coaching. He needs to figure out some better out of bounds plays but he adjusts very well.

He needs to get better talent on the team and continue to build classes. Those are the most important things for him.

Lol. Taking Dayton to the NCAA Tournament multiple years and making a run to the Elite Eight is a pretty good indicator he gets his teams to play at a high level.

He's a solid coach. I just don't know if he's good enough to lead Indiana to anything of significance. Just because he did some nice things any measly lil' Dayton, doesn't mean it will translate at IU. Still time left though for him to prove me wrong. Just saying as of now, it's not looking great.

Again, nobody has ever accused you of being smart. Posts like the above pretty much prove that right.
 
Anyone who is sold on Miller one way or another as the coach of a top-10 program is letting their bias influence things. We'll probably all know where this is headed in 24 months.

Archie has yet to have a high level roster. Multiple NBA scouts have mentioned that its Romeo and Morgan and bunch of other guys who would come off the bench for the good conference teams. Its all about stacking classes. Its what led to Painter have a few down years. You miss on a few guys, bring in some less than desirable recruits and it snow balls. He's not a Cal, K, Roy that brings in multiple 5*s per class. The jury is definitely still out. There's been flashes and head scratchers, but he's recruiting well has seemed to turn this team around when it looked like a disaster just a few weeks ago. He's not going anywhere for at least another 2-3 years no matter what.

if i were you guys, i'd be pretty damn happy right now. team looked like they were headed for a bottom 3 b10 finish with no NIT a few weeks ago. solid turnaround by the archmeister. i like getting more b10 teams in the NCAAT, so it would be cool if you make it.

the b10 has been pretty insane this year (IIRC i predicted a bloodbath conference season in October). BTT will be crazy!

Absolutely. I think it's refreshing to see changes made when things aren't going right. That, to me, was something I don't remember seeing from Crean. This season hasn't gone as expected due to a handful of issues (some avoidable some not avoidable) but I think we're moving in the right direction. Just can't lay an egg against Rutgers.

What's the difference between this Purdue roster and IU's roster though? Aside from these debilitating injuries.

On paper, what's the major difference?
