What's the difference between this Purdue roster and IU's roster though? Aside from these debilitating injuries.

On paper, what's the major difference?

Shooting, injuries, and an established system. Every player painter has on the team he recruited. Archie is still dealing with guys he didn't recruit. Cline has a relationship with Painter that probably goes back to at least his sophomore year in high school, thats 7 years. Archie has a 2 year or less relationship with every player on his roster.

Anyone who is sold on Miller one way or another as the coach of a top-10 program is letting their bias influence things. We'll probably all know where this is headed in 24 months.

Year 4 is when I expect to be a top 10 level and then staying consistent is the key. The inconsistent up and down season's were Crean's downfall.

Where were these excuses at the beginning of the year though? That's what I don't get.

I think the difference is the injuries as you mentioned. It's not like they all happened at once. The disruption to team seems to be completely apparent now that we're fully healthy.

IIRC, I think most people here thought IU and Purdue would be pretty similar this year, no? I'm too lazy to look it up. I obviously thought IU would finish ahead of Purdue but I believe most had both in the 3/4-6 spots.

Unless you were a blind homer which a couple of us were not, we knew the shooting was going to be a massive problem. How are you supposed to know injuries are going to happen at the beginning of the season?

Unbridled optimism? Not sure why we didn't predict all the injuries to happen. Also not sure why we couldn't see locker room problems. Shame on us for not seeing it.

The injury excuse is not enough for me man. Injury to Morgan, Romeo. Fine. DeRon Davis, McBob, concussion for Phinesse. NO way IU should've been this bad. Regardless of injuries.

An IU fan made a bet with me stating that IU would have a better % from 3 than Purdue this season. So some of your were delusional that's for sure.

Look at the Hoosiers acting like giddy little bitches, lol. Nice to have you guys back.

Btw, I called it. You guys go on a huge skid, then get hot late.

I also called for Iowa to finish 1-4.

Damn I know basketball.

Lol. Not surprised injuries don't matter to you. Purdue fans gonna Purdue fan.

They matter. Not to the extent of excusing losing 12 out of 13. That's just incredibly bad. No matter how you slice it.

Absolutely. I think it's refreshing to see changes made when things aren't going right. That, to me, was something I don't remember seeing from Crean. This season hasn't gone as expected due to a handful of issues (some avoidable some not avoidable) but I think we're moving in the right direction. Just can't lay an egg against Rutgers.

haha, i feel the same way about laying an egg (although NW is quite a bit worse that rutgers)

I've been blown away by our own turnaround after the crappy 6-5 start including the bad loss to ND. i predicted we'd sneak in the NCAAT in the 8/9 game in the preseason (before the crappy start), so it's been fun as hell to see the team and coaches turn it around.

and given how you guys looked a few weeks ago, guessing it's similar. but if we happen to meet up in the BTT, i'll be like:

We all knew that, with who the coach of Iowa is.

Not quite the 0-6 I was thinking.

You act like this roster can sustain injuries to valuable pieces and be okay. The bench is either young barely top 150 talent (Anderson, Forrester) or non top 150 players (Green, Moore)

DeRon Davis, Thompson and Hunter were all seen as valuable pieces that IU did not have at all or for a very long time this season.

You went into the season knowing that Thompson and Hunter probably weren't going to be key pieces.

It's been Davis & McBob at the center and Phinisee with this concussion bit.

3 players have played every game. Everyone else is either not good or was injured at some point. Phinisee and Davis are two that have played but have just now been getting back to 100%. The team you see playing these last 5 games and the first 12 is the team we thought we'd have the entire year.

Davis and Phinese are critical pieces of the team. Weird you just dismiss those as no big deal. Rob is essentially the only true PG we have. Showed last night and multiple times throughout the year how important he is to our team. When he's healthy, we're a different team. I'd say the same with Davis to a lesser extent.

Also, Thompson was hurt in the season. Hunter was injured prior to IIRC.

if Fran is such a terrible coach then how did he do this
6 .500+ seasons out of the last 7 seasons in BT play
5 20+ winning seasons out of the last 7 seasons
25 wins in a season tying for the 2nd most wins in Iowa's history
developed 4 1st Team All BT and 1 2nd team AA
4th NCAAT in 6 seasons
2 NCAAT wins
that's more than Iowa had in the 11 seasons before he was hired

playing short handed for most of the season at the 4 & 5 spots
Garza missed playing time due a concussion
Connor suffered a concussion and has not recovered since it happened.
Cook missed games due to a ankle injury

Iowa lost to 3 quad 1 teams and the 4th was a quad 2 team, I asked a question nobody replied.
tell me how or why those teams have ABSOLUTELY NO RIGHT TO WIN?

Hey I get injuries are a thing, but to lose 12 out of 13? That's a brutal stretch regardless of who is injured.

Yes that was more than just injuries. We all discussed that above. But they certainly didn't help things. When a team goes 12-2 and then goes 1-12 there's not one single thing that causes it, multiple issues were at work.

Not true. Hunter was a top 50 player who was going to back up and hold Smith accountable. Thompson was more of an unknown but he had a whole year in the program, so there was some expectation

last night to refs sent a msg to Iowa to just grin and bear it on how they call fouls
1st half Iowa shot 4 FT's in the 2nd half they shot just 2. everytime Cook got the ball he was triple teamed and they were mugging him by hacking, grabbing just short of outright a physical beating, with no fouls being called.

Not one person has blamed the entire losing streak on injuries not one.

that sucks the refs set out to screw iowa from the opening tip

if the game had been fairly reffed, what do you think happens?

i'd guess iowa beats wisky by 15 or so, but if you think it'd be more like a 30-40 point win, i'll hear you out

This is true. Yet you guys can't accept the fact that maybe the reason for IU's struggles are just as simple as maybe your team isn't that good? Or maybe your coach is just kinda average? There's always an excuse.

Maybe, just maybe, refs don’t like it when your head coach chases down other refs in the hall and calls them cheating mother fvckers.

Injuries matter but it depends on which injury you're talking about. I think you may be overestimating the injury to McBob for example. He was never going to be anywhere close to as good as Cline, regardless of injury. RP's concussion and Hunter's injury? Absolutely that's a big deal. But still not a legit valid excuse for losing 12 of 13 IMO.

Would agree but those pesky quad 1 wins tell another story. Again when Painter after 6 years of 20+ wins had 2 sub .500 seasons did he just turn into an avg or below avg coach?

Yall ate that one up to. I think a healthy McBob does what Eifert did this year for you all.
Ate what up? Borden, NC Trojan, & SNU were firmly planted in that camp. These were serious delusional thoughts members of your fan-base concocted in their minds. Not some elaborate troll.
