*Official* B1G In-Season Thread

The reason RP is playing so well right now is he does not HAVE to play all the minutes he was playing when Green was injured. And you guys seem to be completely missing the fact that JS (who I yell at as well) did a masterful job on Stevens defensively for most of this game...
A very important part to this win, that is being overlooked. Folks yellin for Moore to get his mintes. Dude, Stevens would have made a ton of money tonight had Moore guarded him.

As important as Rob, Durham and Romeo were, Smith's defense was just as big; and his reboudnig(9).

I take any conference road win any way you can get it.

There was some good stuff to build off of and some truly dreadful things as well.

PSU is going to win some home games, and it's good for IU to get this one out of the way. I didn't see anything "dreadful" (except some of the calls),but I saw some very encouraging things from an IU perspective. Free throw shooting was pretty good, Moore looks to be someone who could get significant minutes,Romeo seems to be rounding into form (took over in first half) and Green and RP splitting duties gives us some options...

For all the gripes about JS here,he got key rebounds and shut Stevens down for a significant portion of the game. Al and Fitz missed key fts when they let their concentration lapse, but AL is really coming on. Fitz had some key moments defensively as well... All in all for B1G basketball in Dec I feel pretty good, esp going 2-0 with a road win...

Yeah, I don't think he should be getting 25 minutes a game, but I do think he's talented enough to be getting 7 or 8 a game.

Meh---At leasdt 10-15. I mean, he's struggling. But he struggled last year. Then came on. Don't wanna kill a guys confidence. He can help this team.

No I meant I'm not saying Moore should be getting 25 minutes, but I do think 7 or 8 is warranted.

Unfortunately, due to Creans mismanagement of the roster, the only chance we have this year is if JS figures it out. So, you might as well give him as many opportunities as possible to figure it out. So, because of what's behind him, he has no choice but to play 20+ minutes a game.

Hasn't your team lost 3 straight? And despite the "rankings" for FSU and Va Tech, the only really good team you've faced is UM...
only elite team we've faced is michigan. VT and FSU (fresh off an elite 8) are nothing to scoff at. we have a very tough schedule to start the season.

good win on the road for IU.

At one point, Michigan had a stretch where I believe 6 out of 7 possessions ended with 5 threes by Simpson and a three by Teske (all bricks). Was wild to see such poor shot selection by Michigan during that stretch.

But still winning on the road when playing poorly is a sign of a very good team.

Psssssssst this guy just said Indiana is a very good team

Teske has great form and a soft touch and I want him to keep shooting open 3s. Not sure what got into Simpson, he knows he’s an awful shooter and usually passes those looks up. After that benching I doubt he does something like that again. Nearly cost the game

FYI, I just looked it up, and it was 7 straight 3s: 1 by Simpson, then 1 by Iggy, 1 by Teske, then 4 by Simpson.

The Simpson ones were largely really poor decisions. I believe one was an end of the clock(ish) deal, the rest were bad. Agree that Teske appears to have a good shot, but in the midst of the NW run, that is not the shot I want. JMO.

Regardless, good for Michigan to escape w/ the win. I actually enjoy watching Northwestern a bit more without dirty 30 (percent from the field) McIntosh.

Nice call...regardless of what happens here
Oh damn, yeah I had forgotten about the line fir the game. This is why I don't gamble because I would have bet a bunch of money on that line. It's pretty amazing how Vegas can consistently get these lines close. I know the line moves up until the game starts, but usually the initial line is pretty close.

I know that anything can happen on the road in the BIG, but with how both teams had been playing I would have never guessed anything less then a double digit Michigan win

Lol the rankings say otherwise but good try.

Pretty sure that's why I said "rankings" in parenthesis... Va Tech lost to the same PSU team that IU just beat, and FSU lost to Villanova the game before they came back to beat PU.

I said "really good",not good. I think FSU is athletic, but I don't think they are a great basketball team. I also don't think they can compete with Duke,Va or even Carolina- just the "eye test"...

I guess that depends on your definition or "really good" vs "great". Every single metric that is relevant has both in the top 18 in the country.

Not worth the effort. When the argument is "those teams may be ranked in the top 20 but they aren't all that good," there's no substantive argument you can make that will change his mind.

I think it’s easier to say Va Tech isn’t as good as their ranking suggests at this point considering the only team with a pulse they have beaten is Purdue. They also lost to PSU who isn’t very good. Now, much easier to think FSU is a really good team considering the teams they’ve played and beat. Nobody in the top five or ten (IIRC) but some solid teams like Florida and LSU along with Purdue.

At this point in the season, sure there can. Look at Va Tech. They “look” solid, but who have they beat? Purdue? Great. Who else? Anyone? Not saying they shouldn’t be ranked but criticism of their team and how good they are in November and early December is valid.

I get what you're saying, but that becomes pretty circular logic.

"Hey, this preseason highly regarded team is only good if they beat other preseason highly regarded teams."

If the preseason rankings are meaningless for team A, why do they all of a sudden matter for team A's opponents?

Pretty much nothing you typed here is correct.

I mean, Michigan is elite, but if Florida State isn't "really good" then neither is ~6/7 of the b1g.
Which, atm, would be weird.
