Woody rauns nadda for shooters, or to get shots. That's the problem. Everything is off the dribble...or an offensive rebound...or in transition---Or my favo---The chuck to beat the shot clock.

With Reneau/Ware, it wouldn't be difficult at all to get shots...But he(woody) chooses not to. Hasn't in 2+ seasons, and that's not gonna change. Ever wonder why no elite shooters came here? Yeah....

I agree he needs to run more actions to get open three point looks.

Saying he doesn't run any is false. The second possession against Harvard, ran for MM to get an open outside look, worked great to help jumpstart MM in the game.

Todd Leary who's been to a handful of practices has stated publicly he believes MM is the best Hoosier outside shooter since Jay Edwards.

I don't know about that and how it plays out this season, but by all accounts, for his size and position against his freshman class peers, MM is a very good shooter.

Elite? I don't know.

I've heard McNeeley described as the best shooter in the '24 class.

Is that elite enough?

Could Woody have run more for Kopp and Stewart in seasons past? Sure, but they were very one dimensional if it wasn't wide wide open.

Some #Thoughts:

I think the IU 3 point shooting debate falls somewhere in the middle. They’re definitely better than a 24% shooting team (not really a hot take), but their offensive system if you can even call it that doesn’t emphasize creating open looks for three point shooters.

I will say part of that has been because they’ve had such an advantage inside against the majority of opponents that they’ve just been able to rely on inside scoring. It’ll be a solid test for them tonight because Maryland has a good inside presence and very good 2 point defense this season so far.

Hopefully they can start getting some open catch and shoot opportunities, especially as teams start to blitz Reneau more often. I agree with the above that Mgbako is a very good shooter but he has simply struggled to acclimate to college play so far. He had his best game on Sunday so let’s see if he can build some momentum.

Also I really hope we see a shit load of zone tonight. I know it’s not in Woodson’s comfort zone, but this unit is much more equipped to play that. They’re not up to speed on the nail slot rim defense and it causes a ton of open shots and scrambling defenders who aren’t ready to rebound. They’re long and athletic enough on the back end to create turnovers in the zone and probably most importantly it should help to keep Reneau out of foul trouble. Seems to be their best chance to grift their way into the tournament

Ran one play for MM...

One.

So yeah I guess saying none is false.

One.

So what if Kopp/Stewart were one dimensional---that ONE thing is a pretty important part to todays game. Kopp shot 46%....Stewart 40%---You get those dudes shots.

XJ has been dealing with an ankle problem, wonder if he’ll go tonight?

I’d be shocked if he plays. It’s more his foot than his ankle now I believe. He tried to come back from it already and was hobbled and then re-injured it. Can’t imagine they want to do that again.

Not nearly enough. Last month or so of the season was 85%+ JHS TJD two man game. They were our best players so I get it, but they were also out of steam and they didn’t know how to adjust because mikes system is so limited. They should’ve been trying to get Kopp double the shots he took last year. For as not good as he was his first year at IU, he was very solid last year and was far more dynamic than they allowed him to be

Doubtful, IMO....But who knows. Hes been questionable the past three, and has started all 3. I'll miss the game---have a game of my own tonight(HS). Probably a good thing.

The big ten has sucked for several years in a row now.
People seem to have more fun crafting a narrative where we are “really tough” (2021 regular season) or “really down” (right now), but I think it’s pretty clear we just always have a plethora of average-to-good teams and there is usually an embarrassing amount of parity.

Combine that with probably the best home court advantages 1-14 in the country and absolutely atrocious reffing, and you get the lovable shitshow we’ve all come to love, lol.

I really thought Maryland was going to be good this year but they have seemed to be missing something when I’ve watched them.

Somewhere Dukie V tuned into this game and said "Damn that Hummel is really riding the Boilers nuts"

How you don't put your ass into his legs and allow him him to push off for space I'll never understand.

Buie just put on a clinic. Edey did too, but that’s normal. Purdue still has the same deficiencies that caught up to them last year.

They’re better-equipped to handle things compared to last year but won’t win many games when you turn it over that many times, shoot poorly from 3, and Edey misses so many bunnies.

Had a game...Recorded IU....Played well. But MD is bad, Not sure why---they have some guys. Ware is a problem, but dude has soft, soft hands---loses a lot of rebounds. BUt hes a baller. Mgbako seemingly starting to "get it".

Oh, and Purdue lost...

And this might have been his biggest play. Jones was defending him well in the second half and Buie baited the ref into a bad call.

Yep that was a bad call but we shot ourselves in the foot with the bad shooting and too many turnovers. I think we win if we have Jones in OT.

If I weren't already pissed off at those Liberty assholes, I'd be really upset with Painter & Co. rn.

... Fuch Liberty

That’s one of the funnier things I’ve ever heard. IU has a terrible record against OSU, Michigan and even Purdue.
Might want to wait until he gets a win over one of the teams he mentioned before he starts talking shit.

Anyway, that was a helluva game tonight in Evanston

There should be a gif made with the loud crowd after the Purdue comment then make everything quiet after the Michigan and osu comment and everyone shaking their head no.
