In classic Illini fashion I will blame the refs ... but holy SHIT did Illinois get hosed in the Elite Eight vs. Arizona that year, lol. We had already split 1-1 in the regular season, and during that game the fouls were 36-23 in favor of Arizona, with SIX Illini players fouling out. It was made a bit more infamous because Lute Olson like publicly declared he thought Big Ten teams mugged each other and he was worried about making sure the refs called enough fouls on Illinois' defense, and it was absolutely unbearable because Bill Walton called the game and his son was on Arizona, lmao. Lost by six.
I'd forgotten you were a #1 seed until the "Road to the NCG" graphic at start of game.
Yeah, you'd been rolling through prvs opponents, inc 4 seed KU.
Now I recall Olsen's making a *big* deal about tB1G "style of play".
Geez..., yeah that'd of been brutal 😅 w/ Walton calling the game and Luke W. playing for 'zona on top of the ridiculous, uneven refereeing.

I like your style of always tempering expectations for your own team, but I feel fairly optimistic about us. We historically perform well there, and I think we will FINALLY be totally healthy going into that stretch. Not saying we'll win it, necessarily, but I like our odds vs. any other one team in the field this year.
If we can avoid Danny Manning led Maryland and Purdue then I like our chances.

I was reminded today that this wasn't the 1st time a Wisconsin banked three cost Purdue at least a share of a Big Ten title.

Was that the baby boilers? I think we lost 2 to you that year but beat everyone else. Now that was a down B1G year. 16-2 in B1G, won BTT. 3 seed.

Yep. We went 15-3 and beat Wisky twice. And no one else could Fvcking beat you in the conference that year.

Illinois is going to let PSU make a game of this that's going to result in a lot of clock stoppages late in the second half.

There is a post on the homeboard that attacked the “negative nancies” and called us spoiled for turning our back in the team. Faith in Izzo is all they clamor. It has an unbelievable amount of likes.

We’re about to be sub .500 post Cassius with a hall of fame coach. The amount of “everything is fine” folks make me fvcking rage. I’m not calling for Izzo’s head but clearly something had to change. We are entering legacy damaging territory if this shit happens again next year.

Who’s returning for MSU next year?

Put me in the Izzo Faith group. If we are stuck in mediocrity a year from now I'll be concerned, but a couple of average seasons isn't going to cause me panic. There's only a few programs in the country that can say an average season, while still dancing, is as bad as it gets. Izzo has earned the right to have the longest leash imaginable.

A Dantonio-esque slow fade away would be a brutal way to end his legacy though.

I’m in the same boat as you, I’m just pointing how concerning that is. We can call last year a blip. Happens back to back years, more suspicious. 3 years in a row and that’s officially a trend. The fact we’re 1 more mediocre season away from us having to answer some serious serious program questions is concerning.

I would hate for Izzo to become Boeheim. Just barely making the tournament, being just average to go out.

Should have pulled a Costanza and retired after 2000.

Zero points scored in this Penn State - Illinois game in almost 4 minutes. Stuck on 55-52 Illinois with 58 seconds left.

Psu has to be the dumbest team I’ve seen all year. No wonder they’re at the bottom of the league.

His legacy is solidified. That part is fine. But yes sub .500 in the Big Ten over the past two seasons isn’t a good look and Izzo isnt getting any younger.

@boilerzz you and MGC both just said what I was saying. I’m still lost over the “mental gymnastics” comment. It’s like you made that comment without actually reading the discussion.

Anal rampage time!
