1 pt in the last 5+ minutes is pretty wild.

Did this logic apply to Illinois fans when they incessantly brought up the beat down Michigan took to Illinois last season?
Did this logic apply to you when you incessantly brought up the beat down Illinois took to Loyola last year?

Losses happen, sometimes at the worst possible time. Luckily the loss last night was not at the worst possible time.

If next week it came out that Curbelo threw the game for the mob, I wouldnt be surprised. It was probably the worst performance I have ever seen by a single illini in any sport.

I brought it up almost entirely as a rebuttal to the regular season game being brought up. Notice I haven’t made fun of other teams here for dipping out of the tournament early? In fact other than Illinois and MSU I couldn’t for certain tell you who other teams lost to. Purdue lost early in 2021 too and I don’t troll them for it.

Regardless it’s weird for an Illinois fan to lecture about one game samples while the entire fanbase harps on that one regular season game.

Just did an intensive study. You are correct that you brought it up as a a response to an Illinois fan talking about the regular season games. But then, over the course of the next few months, it was brought up 78 times and 71 of those times was initiated by you.

PS The above numbers are all full of shit but it sure seemed that way.

It’s different kinds of sucking. Sure a national championship game appearance is better for the program and considered a great run looking back. But having it within your grasp to win it all and not doing is sucks more than being upset early IMO. Just so dang close to the ultimate goal just to not get it. The loss itself hurts more.

Agreed but the level of suck for me is is also determined by how good I think the team is. Losing to UK in the S16 ( for the first time in an NCAA tournament game ) in Sullinger’s freshman year stung because I truly believed Osu was the best team in the country or at the very least could have beaten anyone. Losing in the FF the next year also hurt but didn’t feel like anyone was beating Anthony Davis lead UK that year.

Yeah good point. The Final Four loss in 19’ hurt way worse than the 15’ one to me.

I know a team that beat that Anthony Davis lead team… 😂

I’m really excited for the Butler game. They’re projected 6th in the conference this year, around where we are in the Big Ten projections, but it’s at Butler. They’re head coach is pretty familiar with us, former UM assistant LaVall Jordan.

The Kansas game didn’t put me in panic mode but I also didn’t get too hyped over the destruction of Western Michigan. This is the first game I really feel like could go either way.

I don’t think you will have any trouble with Butler. They are pretty dreadful this year.

I vividly remember we were playing in a holiday tournament in Breese Illinois that finished up on NYE that year. We lost that day, drove to STL to fly back to Orlando and as soon as I got to the gate the IU/OSU game was ending and a few IU fans were going crazy. Not the best ending to the year.

Eh, they brought back like everyone from last year, albeit everyone from an ok team. Projected 6th in the Big East isn’t a terrible team.

To put it in perspective, Marquette was projected 10th and they beat Illinois.

To be fair, Illinois was without the player that could win Big Ten POY last night..

I think most thought Illinois without Kofi would be right around MSU range though, and Marquette was supposed to be worse than Butler.

That's fair, Illinois was still 8 point favorites last night. Still can't believe how Morsell is doing offensively, happy for the guy.

The big East is like a 4 bid league this year

Butler has been very meh lately. Not sure how much longer Lavall lasts IMO.

They’ve looked good against our conference so far.
Not sure I’d say Marquette looked good as much as Illinois just looked like shit. Illinois without Kofi & 26 turnovers and Marquette still barely pulled out the W at the end.

Didn’t watch the Providence/Wiscy game but it’s not like Wisc was expected to be a top 6 big ten team or anything.

A little worried about Seton Hall tonight. That team is going to cause a lot of teams trouble with their length and athleticism. Our guards will be really tested. Need to take care of the ball better overall than we did last game.

Our best player was out plus another athletic guard. We’ll see how “Maui” goes next week.

We don’t get that excuse, and neither do you!

It’s a valid excuse because it’s change the entire landscape of a team. It’s just funny because y’all spent the offseason (pre Kofi decision) saying you’d be a top 25 even without Kofi.

I’ve said all summer that Dickinson/Diabate vs William/Edey is a coin flip. We just have a better front court overall. And you guys have better guards.
I’ll put Purdue’s frontcourt up against anyone in the country. Not hyperbole, think it’s that good with Edey/Trevion & Furst/Gillis.
