Those are good challenges for them, the type we need them to at least be passable against.

And Michigan beat them by 12 allowing 76 points despite Buffalo shooting 5/28 from three. It seems as if UM may have some concerns on the defensive end sort of like Purdue does as well.
Yeah, but they would have likely allowed 78 points if it had been Austin Davis getting those second-team minutes at the 5.
Ipso facto, you should rethink your preseason expectations immediately.
I see it as a negative, because Michigan cost $1k plus by not winning by at least 13.

Yeah my takeaways from just the Buffalo game were that - similar to Purdue - they looked really talented, dangerous offensively, and certainly worthy of the top 10 ranking, but needed to gel defensively a bit. They didn't have a great answer for that 6'5 wing guy and that's where Franz would've come in handy.
Have said similar things about my concerns around Purdue defensively.
Or ideally Zeb Jackson/Kobe Bufkin. That backup guard spot IS still a question mark. Bufkin looked solid in the second half against Prairie View but that doesn’t mean much to me. Frankie Collins/Zeb Jackson/Kobe Bufkin is still a question mark. I just don’t think Houstan or Diabate are at this point.
If you would have told me Buffalo would only lose @ UM by 12 and be in the game in the 2nd half while shooting 5/28 from three I would have said you’re crazy. Definitely not a plus that they let Buffalo hang around despite them shooting so poorly.

In my opinion, OSU is the only team I feel like we know something about given where they were ranked pre season. A lot of teams have closer than expected games, but having back to back close games and the poor guard play leads me to believe they were overrated.
Their guard play has definitely been questionable. But their frontcourt play has been better than I expected. Based on what he showed early, Liddell has a legit shot to win B1G POY. I thought he was 5th or 6th in the pecking order prior to season's start. And Key has improved nicely from prior year.
They need a healthy Sueing in the worst way.

I didn’t ask everyone to completely change their preseason rankings. I simply said that Houstan and Diabate look legit and wondered if anyone would flip their Purdue pick after seeing them so far. You’re just making a mountain of a rebuttal out of a molehill of a question.

What are you talking about? You argued that he couldn’t replace Mike Smith. There’s receipts. I said he’s basically the same level of player as Mike Smith

That’s right in line with what I thought he’d be and better then you thought he’d be if you legitimately thought he’d be worse than Smith.

The best player at the g league combine sure got a lot of play for people that thought he was going to be average at best. Most thought he’d be better when considering the ceiling.
Those are basically identical numbers to what Smith did against Bowling Green and Oakland last season. Those two are pretty similar level players. You object to that? They put up similar numbers at their low majors, they put up similar numbers at the G League camp (while guarding each other) and they’ve got similar numbers thus far at Michigan.
Let’s use Occam’s Razor and not overthink this one. They are similar level players.

After watching both of your games, if I had to pick between Michigan and Purdue at this point in the season, I'd pick Purdue. More well-rounded roster, better coach, better guards - I'm not ready to say better center, but it will be a fun matchup.

Him now: We expected Jones to be better than he is.
Complete contradiction. No, he didn’t expect Jones to be better than he is right now. Receipts show that.

I think we sweep. I’ll be very excited if Illinois can win on the road this early without Kofi, regardless of how “bad” Marquette is perceived to be. If we can win comfortably and continue our excellent defense, I’ll start to become really optimistic about the season as a whole.
