We won 10 games 2 years ago with a significantly worse defense.

The offense got wrecked with injuries. Our top 4 WR, hurt. Lewerke, hurt. And the most important part, almost our entire O-Line, hurt. We were starting walk-ons at late in the year. If we can stay healthy and just be average, we could be a good team.

Unfortunately, the schedule is a bitch this year. At UM, (even though we’ve had recent success there, 2017, 2015), at OSU, at Wisconsin, at Northwestern who we struggle with.

We’re ranked 18th in the AP Poll. We aren’t world beaters but this team doesn’t suck. This defense definitely doesn’t suck. The best run defense in the country and our whole D-Line is back.

It will be interesting when he loses in the Big House to a first year coach from Ohio. I don't think he would be fired (unless they lose 3-4 games) but I could see him bailing just like he did when he didn't get his way in San Francisco.

I’m ok with it. Not overly excited. I do think Peegs didn’t message this one well. IIRC they messaged it as a good thing for recruiting. Roberts is an X’s and O’s and development guy. But what do I know...

Purdue had made a really good impression early on, but sounds like UNC and Michigan made up some ground, and Louisville and Notre Dame have always been strong with him.

It sounds like the kid is looking for the best path to the pros, and with Purdue slated to have Haarms and Tre Williams as upperclassmen when this kid is a frosh, I'm not sure how viable of an option we'll be.

Rabby and Snow mentioned multiple times that this was going to be a hire based on current recruiting connections. Mike Roberts doesn't scream that, but the guy has been around awhile and obviously recruits the same AAU programs that power conference do just lower ranked players.

The message board has imploded with people pissed off. Its truly one of the more impressive melts that I have seen on the board and I have been around a long, long time.

I'm always down for a good message board meltdown....unless it's our board. Then I avoid the cesspool like Gil avoids his meds.

Ok gotcha. So everyone expected a big recruiter (based on the reporting) but Archie turned around hired something different. I'd argue that x's and o's -- and IMO, roster building -- are a bigger issue than actual recruiting anyways at this point.

I would say, generally speaking, that assistant coaching hires are oftentimes where fans embarrass themselves. Greg Gary for example was not particularly well received, and people asked who he had gotten and such...while behind the scenes, he was a huge part of our offensive success and fast tracked himself into a head coaching job. People still crap on Steve Lutz.

Exactly. Embarrassing themselves when they truly have zero ****ing clue. They wouldn't be shitting on Mike Roberts if he averaged say 11-5 in his career at IU.

I don't know who posted it, but someone said Roberts is one 5*/high 4* away from the fanbase loving him. LOL. IU fans at their finest.

It’s gone down hill quite a bit lately. Chat isn’t a 10th of what it used to be. There’s 10 times as many shit posters, Rabs and Peegs have become headline/post title grabbers, it’s why quit giving them my money. Maybe I’ll jump back in once the season starts but other than snow there’s not a lot you’re getting for your money. As far as Mike. It’s not splashy but often times those can be the best hires. From my memory he’ll fit in with Archie’s personality and style.

I have been on that train so long I just can't hop off. The "insider" information these sites were built off of though no longer exist. Not with the twittersphere.

Dear god, this meltdown is going to be one for the record books! I can't believe that so many adults are getting this worked up over the 3rd assistant spot.

As someone above has already said....fans were screaming about Crean not recruiting the state better. Now, Archie is killing it in the state and fans are now screaming about not recruiting out of state players. Fans were upset that there wasn't an IU guy on the bench....but now are upset when one is hired. Its fcking ridiculous and it's just annoying now! As @klize17 said above, if he had averaged 11 points a game....people would be happy right now.
