- Michigan did inquire about Oklahoma City Thunder coach Billy Donovan. He isn't interested in the job. But he reportedly endorsed former assistant Shaka Smart as the coach the Wolverines should pursue.

There are several connections that could all have played a role in putting him there. That includes a couple of very strong ones that I’ll talk about here. First, Smart was on the same Clemson staff with Michigan’s head strength & conditioning coach Jon Sanderson for three years. Second, Smart attended Kenyon College where he was the roommate of the son of former Michigan athletic director Bill Martin.

If true it may not be the best hire but could
work out I guess. There just not a great selection of available coaches. Many that were givens have taken jobs the past few years. I think his style can work better in the big10. Didn’t get great results at Texas but maybe he needs a fresh start.

Texas willing to negotiate his buyout should tell you all you need to know.

One way I'd be okay with it is if he kept the current Michigan assistants around so they could try to teach him a semblance of Beilein's offense. Smart's defenses have been good at Texas but his offense is trash.
He can definitely recruit as well. Your scenario wouldn’t be a bad one at all.

Probably not surprising:

Michigan's class next year is going to have like 7 scholarships open. Maybe Smart wouldn't be the worst hire because at least he might be able to bring in a solid class.

Wilson was a top 50 player, good talent. Was looking forward to his matchups with Hall in the future, but glad he won’t end up in AA.

One negative of Beilein leaving is that even when we beat them next year and maybe a few more years, because it was a new coach, it “won’t count” because he didn’t have his guys, like when we started 4-0 against Beilein but that didn’t count. (still 10-9 taking out those 4 games)

He certainly wouldn’t be remembered fondly if he didn’t have his tourney success the last half dozen years.

Crazy to think that he would have zero career Final Fours, if it weren't for (2) 30+ foot shots to advance. Burke's 30fter against Kansas with 4 seconds left in 2013, and Jordan Poole's buzzer beater against Houston in 2018.

Fvck conference championships. Only Purdue and Indiana fans care about them.

It's about March

Well, the Biig 10 was looking loaded a month ago. Now, not so much.

Tough off season for the BIG.

The Big 10 made 759 million in revenue last year.

Damn.

Now we just need some titles
