I actually was talking with a few coworkers yesterday. I work with a couple Illinois grads. Not gonna lie, I think they could be a top five type B10 team next year. Obviously MSU is the favorite, but Illinois could make some noise. I really like their guards and then Kofi is a beast. That would then leave OSU, Maryland and maybe Iowa fighting for those other top spots.

@Jaycg15 - Am I crazy for thinking y'all could be a top five team?

Yes his past recruiting has been a major part of the issue. Not one PG committed to IU after Yogi Ferrell committed in 2011 until Rob Phinisee.

You try to say Archie can’t build a roster but the guy has one recruiting class on the roster, so who brought in the rest?
Maybe there's a difference between who he's landed vs. who he's targeted, as I'm not super keyed into IU's recruiting, but it just seems like he's really neglected shooting where it was already an obvious hole. I don't really understand why.
So is any Big Ten team still making moves for the 2019 roster or are you all likely finished?

Purdue still has one scholarship available but Painter has said he only wanted one grad transfer so I think we are done.
Yeah we're definitely done. Scholarships are at a premium right now.

I hear ya, but my thing as well is most likely a freshman isn't going to come in and set the world on fire unless he is a top 25 player who is a shooter. Archie went after some guys this spring and just flat out missed. It happens. So the best plan of attack there is a grad transfer. The issue with that is IUs administration acts like they are Harvard when it comes to transfers, so the pool of grad transfers for IU is a very small percentage of which is out there.

Franklin has continued to improve his shot in high school. Durham and Green both improved over the year before, so you hope Durham keeps that progression and Green stays at the 40 clip. Then I guess faith that Phinisee improves and Anderson does what he needs to do to get more playing time to fall into a good rhythm. That kid can shoot, but he was just so lost last year on both offense and defense he couldn't get on the floor.

Michigan will be fine
I agree. Y'all have the money, facilities, track record/history and brand to bring in someone solid. Might take a couple years to get up and going, but you'll be fine in the long run. Really interested to see who you guys are looking at. Any names you're hearing?

Porter Moser, Juwan Howard, Lavall Jordan are names being tossed around.

Yaklich/Saddi Washington (current assistants).

Tom Crean.......

I mean...... he’s probably top 10 most qualified available and he’s married to a Harbaugh.

Would be hilarious though after all my Beilein > Crean posts.
Dude that would be beyond hilarious. Remember all the bitching we used to do about those two? LOL! But for UM's sake, I really hope they don't hire Crean.

Yeah that's fair enough. The Hunter injury should obviously be noted as a big loss as well.

Odds for Michigan's next coach per BetOnline.ag (via Matt Glenesk)

Juwan Howard (Heat assistant, alum): 3-1
Billy Donovan (Thunder): 7-2
Bobby Hurley (Arizona State): 5-1
Mike White (Florida): 5-1
Kevin Keatts (NC State): 7-1
Shaka Smart (Texas): 7-1
LaVall Jordan (Butler): 10-1
Luke Yaklich (assistant): 10-1
Saddi Washington (assistant): 10-1
Brad Stevens (Celtics): 12-1

Alas, no Tom Crean on that list. It would be epic. Frankly, I'm not sure what would be more entertaining. Watching Hail trying to navigate the thought of Crean as his coach or watching IU fans meltdown if Crean actually had more success than Archie. They would both be damn enjoyable.

If he is able to play that could go a long way but no one is saying anything definitive. IU did post a video of him working out so I have to think that they are optimistic

He’s missed a lot of basketball so it will take time for him.

Time to dust off the cleats.

Tom Crean would get to the tournament at Michigan sooner than Archie did at Indiana.
I would need to evaluate the roster a little more before I agree/disagree. You expecting to see any defections or are people waiting to see who's hired?

I think Mike White or Bobby Hurley would be good hires. Not sure I like anyone else on that list (Stevens isn't coming back to college).

Iowa has 3 available, fans want a GT and 2 that have to sit with 2 to play. with Fran still looking to fill out his coaching staff he might wait till that is done,

Would Tom even leave Georgia for Michigan? He's been recruiting pretty well for them and the SEC is an easier conference to win in. Michigan has a pretty bare cupboard.

Would Anthony Edwards go with Crean, though? UM is a giant leap up from Georgia in pretty much every single possible way.

No otherwise he would have gone to one of the other big time schools that he was being recruited by. He is a Georgia boy.

Haha I was jk.

But having upper class men leaders in Simpson/Livers/Teske should make a transition phase a bit easier than a full overhaul.

I expect them all to return regardless of who comes. The recruits I’m not sure about.

I know you were.

I would assume you won't lose any of your recruits, either. Y'all should bring in someone solid. No reason to leave.

I'm not an expert on coins but i do know big10 basketball. Poole, ignas, and matthews gone won't be good. Its just not a roster that Tom could win with.
No, but they return some solid pieces and have good recruits coming in. Simpson is a damn good player. Livers and Teske are really solid as well. They're going to be alright.
