*Official* 2017-2018 B1G In-Season Thread

When I first moved out to Denver, I did the drive in February right after that huge blizzard that covered half the country.

Must have seen 40+ wrecks, most of them semi trucks. Saw at least a couple that were guaranteed fatalities (one flat-bed semi was in the ditch, and another one rear-ended him with the flat-bed end going straight through the cab of the 2nd semi). It was a pretty sketchy drive and certain spots in Iowa and Nebraska, where there are no trees / terrain to block the wind - the highway would go from 2 lanes to like 0.75 lane because of snow drifts.
I guess that's one way to make that drive scenic.

I nearly ran out of gas at 1am when it was -7F on my way home from Denver. I had 32 mi to empty and thought "I'll just get it at the next gas station". I learned my lesson while panicking to find one on empty.

I used to be one of you, a shitposter. I've since ascended to a realm beyond that. I am now just shit, and I happen to coach the Iowa Hawkeyes.

Yea, gotta be smart when you're in the middle of nowhere. Ton of the "next exit with services: 68 miles" type signs. I remember driving and getting hungry, but there was literally nowhere to eat for like 2 hours.

Holtmann COY.

Let the bitching commence.

Holtmann did a great job considering the circumstances, but he inherited a far better situation than most believed. Had Diop been healthy all of last year, Osu is likely a 24-25 win team and a high seed.

Perhaps when @hailtoyourvictor laughed at the Holtmann hire and said Osu was at least three years from being a tournament team, he assumed Diop wouldn’t be healthy.

I don't really have a good pulse on this team. We've been playing good basketball, but our guys have played a lot of games in a short period recently. I expect to win, but I expected to win last time.

What are your thoughts?

toss up they have been playing pretty good but again their defense is still a issue.

their defense vs NW was actually improved as a whole as there was less driving to the hoop, Lindsey was out past the NBA ARC on most of his shots.

the team that turns the ball over the least should win.

If TO's are the deciding factor, I'd expect Illinois to win this one. We had 4 against MSU, 6 against Purdue, and 10 against Rutgers this past week. Illinois is settling into their offense. My only worry is fatigue.

BTW, did anyone take boilerz up on his avatar bet offer about each of you gets 2 teams but if none of the 4 win they both have an Iowa avatar for a week

against Minnesota they had 7 in the 1st 8 minutes 3 in the last 12 minutes of the 1st half then 2 in the 2nd half. then 9 vs NW.

What would you guys put the over/under at for fans in the stands at the Illinois vs Iowa game? I heard that tickets are like $3 RollLaughRollLaugh

You underestimated Michigan, I underestimated Ohio State (like most people).

Anyone going to first or second round games? I have the friday opening week off work and am going to Little Caesars arena to watch Michigan State and the other game in their pod.

I also see Lunardi has Purdue as a 2 seed also playing at LCA...that would be a good Sunday pod...MSU vs Miami and Purdue vs Creighton...I'd definitely root for the Boilers.

Michigan basketball > Michigan football this year. Whuddathunkit

Who is UM replacing Walton,Irvin and Wilson with? Feel like UM would have won about 5 games without them last year.

Why exactly is it rich? When I watched UM last year they won games because of the senior leadership and play of Walton and Irvin with Wilson providing a defensive/rebounding presence that many Belein teams usually don’t have. I assumed a bubble type team that was losing their three best players would struggle some this year and was surprised at UM fans thinking otherwise.

You expressed why and it makes sense.

The difference is I underestimated a coach without a D1 track record. You underestimated Beilein who has proven time and time again that he is one of the best in the country at developing guards.

Yes, but both of those teams are less than healthy. I expect Illinois to force around 16+ against Iowa. I think Illinois may turn it over around 12 times tonight. Illinois has backed their defensive pressure off slightly in recent games, but they've only had 5 out of their last 16 games that their opponent has had less turnovers.

Agree purdue and MSU are good enough to win it all. Wouldn’t be shocked if osu won a few games but they could just as easily lose right away. And like you said, the guard play is average at best.

I like Muhammad and Washington coming in next year but idk how ready they will be. I expect to add a transfer from juco or something like that. Hopefully a pg

They definitely will try and pick up at least 1 Juco transfer. Next year is OSU’s gap year when we will see the results of 2 straight horrible recruiting years and everyone leaving. Really good anchor in the middle with Wesson at least. But if we happen to also land instate Alonzo Gaffney, could get interesting...just so very young as you say. Everyone send us your good grad transfers please. lol

Does anyone still read through an entire post by Gil anymore? I can't remember the last time I actually paid attention to all the names and stats and stars he lists. He could be listing King Kong Bundy and Rick Flair as 9 star recruits and I wouldn't even know. JesusB could be listed as averaging 16 sunflower seeds per game, and I would just pass right on by it. Anytime I see any sort of list, my brain has learned to just skip that part.

Depends, I'll skim through it to see if there are any gems.
