it is in BT play that the wins really counts as teams can pick and choose the teams they play.as of now there are just 5 teams with a winning BT Record. that means there are 7 teams with a losing record in BT play and at most 2 .500 teams in BT play.

Fran in his 1st year took over a team that had just gone thru the worst 11 seasons in their history.

Painter win% at Purdue=.664 overall ; B1G%=.616
McCaffery win% at Iowa =.558 ; B1G%=.472
Painter also has access to better recruits in Indiana than Fran does in Iowa.
in Fran's season from his 1st thru the 15-16 season he had just 2 4* recruits. vs how many did Painter have. also Swanigan was a 5* from the state of Indiana, in Fran's tenure the state of Iowa had zero 5* recruits to try and recruit.
of those 2 4* players in that 2012 class only 1 was from Iowa and the other 4* recruit in that year class went to UNCHEATS in PG Paige.
the talent in Iowa is getting better, Fran has a very good chance at getting his 1st instate 5* recruit in the 2020 class in F Foster.
Wieskamp is in the top 50 by Rivals in the18 class and Patrick is #33 by Rivals in the 19 class, plus he has a chance to get #51 by Rivals PG Carton in the 19 class.
just using Rivals these will be the 4* players for the 2019 season

Then why are you always bragging about 4 stars Wieskamp, McCaffery, Carton and 5 star Foster? That seems like enough good talent to win consistently to me. Plus there are some way better and bigger schools around Indiana competing for those same recruits
Painter also has to compete against 3 other P6 schools in Indiana for those recruits. Iowa St. isn't like competing against Indiana, Notre Dame, and Butler for recruits. Hell Louisville plays literally right across the Ohio River from Indiana. There are 10 D1 schools in Indiana and 4 in in Iowa to compete with for recruits.

from 2013 thru 2016 Fran has Produce 4 1st Team All BT and 1 2nd Team AA with 2 2nd round NBA Picks and none of them were 4* players.

no you are forgetting how loaded Indiana is with BB recruits. 2 4* recruits in Fran's 1st 6 season and 1 of them went to UNCHEATS,
also there is no 6th P5 Teams so there are 4 P5 teams to 2 in Iowa. fighting over those 4* recruits.
It's interesting how down the bracket selectors are on the likes of Maryland, Penn State and nebraska. You have a team like Washington who is 95th in kenpom as a next four out team over those three
