*Official* 2017-2018 B1G In-Season Thread

The previous times we won the outright regular season title 1999, 2000, and 2009 we made it to the Final Four in those years. Let's hope that trend continues but let's close the deal this time. That 2009 Final Four championship game loss at Ford Field still stings to this day. I'd rather lose in the 1st round to some no name school than make it all the way to the end to lose to Duke or North Carolina.

Odd thoughts.

So you would rather roll with a 2016 type of finish rather than 2010?

And why would the 2009 loss to Carolina still sting? A close loss to Butler in 2010 would sting a lot more than getting hammered by Carolina. The Heels were the clear cut best team when healthy and motivated and everyone knew this way back in November of that season.

I see Ethan Happ did not participate in Senior Day activities.

Pathetic.

There is no harm in taking part and returning next year. This tells me he has no NBA aspirations despite the fact he would be taken in the second round. He likely will not attend any sort of camp or combine on his own dime and return if not given the right grade.

No surprise Herro turned away from that culture.

Yes I'd rather get beat by a cinderella early in the tournament over getting blown out by Duke or North Carolina in a championship game especially when that championship game was played pretty much at "Home" in Detroit. Yes that one hurt more than way more than that Butler loss. For me personally I'm tired of losing to Duke and North Carolina especially in the NCAA tournament.

I definitely disagree with him on the losing in first round versus title game.

The Heels were the best team that year, I just think many MSU fans felt like our 09 team was our best team as well. Plus it was in Detroit.

Butler game sucked too.

I hate losing to Duke/UNC too, but getting upset by a double digit seed in the first round is way worse. Come on man, it's not even close. Final Four banner vs choke?

Feel bad for Brad Davison. Drops a 30-spot, but it comes in a loss and he has zero chance at being B1G POW. Should be able to snag FOW, though.

Shoulder popped again. Can’t wait to see him with two healthy arms next year.

Does Pitino really survive this season? A recruting class saving a coach just delays the inevitable

No effing way Dakota Mathias deserves to be on there. Also, I don't think Ward's 10.8 ppg will be enough for a conference team.

Leron Black will make a team. His offensive statline is nearly identical to Haas'. If Iowa even played the smallest amount of defense, I'd nearly be inclined to flip Haas and Cook, but Haas deserves it.
Not aging well.

Hate to say this, but Iowa might as well lose today and have Illinois beat Rutgers. Minnesota is the best matchup out of the 3 for Iowa. Rutgers destroyed Iowa and Illinois WAS destroying Iowa before Iowa started making every God damn thing they chucked at the rim. Doesn't matter who Iowa plays 2nd round, they will get dump trucked. They might lose in the 1st round for all I know. At this point I'm just focused on having our season not end BEFORE March 1st. It can end on March 1st all it wants, but please not February 28th

Would not surprise me one bit if 10-15 years down the line we see Dakota Mathias as Purdues next head basketball coach taking over for a retiring Matt Painter.

Guy sounds like a coach in every single interview.

Huskers absolutely dominating Penn State right now. Nice to see this team get over their week of the yips.... They are built around defense and creating points in transition. They seemed to have lost that mentality in a 1-1 week vs. Illinois and Indiana.

You're playing Minnesota. Good thing Dakota shows up against the bottom of the B1G.
Now you are tripling down on stupid.
You are playing a team that is gameplanning against three other guys before him with limited guys who can defend. The guy is a solid player. Nothing more. He could never be a number one or two.

He shot 47.4% from three against the top half of the conference.
good for him. The past two games that piglet is referencing were against teams whose combined conference win total wouldn't put them in the top half of the big. Mathias isn't special.

He isn't "special" but he's the exact kind of piece that differentiates between contending and not contending for championships. I hate Purdue and wish Dakota Mattias would get lost on his way to games, but that guy does things that help teams win basketball games. Indiana fans would compare him to Colin Hartman in 2016, before injuries completely sucked the life out of him. He played hard, shot it well, defended (Colin often as an out of position 4 or 5), and made smart basketball plays. Winning teams have guys like this often, and knowledgeable basketball fans notice.

Mathias is averaging 10.7 ppg against the top half of the B1G and these homers act like I'm crazy for saying he's average.

He's a 3 and D guy. Every team wants that. Doesn't mean I'm wrong for thinking that others are better and more deserving of conference honors. He is a strong role player, and I don't think that's what the conference teams are for.

Hint: you "game plan" for a teams strengths. Newsflash! Mathias 3 point shooting is a team strength. News flash 2! Mathias is very good at other parts of the game - assists, defense, rebounds, steals. You obviously are fascinated with the bright shiny objects in a game (scoring) while being completely ignorant of the total game.
