The very first season is pretty big for these guys in basketball IMO. TX is walking into a really improved league but they are bringing a really talented team to the table. I know they always have talent but they were in neutral with both previous coaching regimes and this is a new beginning with a guy that showed a good NCAA post season profile. If they are mediocre year 1 they are in for a tough haul, but if they hit the ground in top 4 they may be tough for awhile.
 
I'm pretty sure that Sheriff is Medicare-age, yet he defends his program's honor like a 12-yr-old. Sad.

But hey....T-shirt sales.

Texas is the trust fund kid who began life with millions and accomplished nothing, yet still has a sense of entitlement and brags about his superiority to people with real accomplishments.

There is nothing likeable or respectable about Texas. You know this. That's why you're defensive.

Texas didn’t decide to leave the Big 12
The decision was made for them by the media companies
FOX and ESPN wanted the Big 12 gone and pretty much gave them the decision
1) Give up on sports
2) Join the B1G
3) Join the SEC

Couldn’t continue anymore
They tried.
But too much negative media attention. Basketball wasn’t that important. All about football
KU has the brand name to be a football school and could have helped the conference

More people watched a couple alsoran programs in Tech/VA in 2019 than Ohio St/Alabama this year. 12X as many as the College World Series average this year.

KU basketball will be relevant and important no matter where they end up. Yet I highly doubt they'll end up in a bad basketball league.

Texas BB hasn’t done anything. Their football team hasn’t done anything since 2005 and had 4-5 coaches since then. KU has owned them since Sheriff was a teenager and probably before then. If they couldn’t win in the Big 12 on a consistent basis in FB what makes them think they would win in the SEC?

NCAA Tournament is owned by the NCAA not the schools nor the conference
If the NCAA goes away things can change

I love basketball
But even I can admit the fact that it doesn’t matter in the entire scheme of things now
Hard for some people to accept this fact right now.
Especially some of you who place your value on being a basketball power.
You see Kansas and you think it could happen to you.
UNC is making the effort in becoming a football school because they understand
KU should have done the same. They have a big enough brand to use it for football.
They didn’t.
Here we are now

KU isn’t getting into a power conference. Things won’t work out no matter how much you want to tell yourself

The money in basketball is with the NCAA. Actually funds the entire organization
If NCAA goes away things could change and basketball becomes as important or more important than football
Conferences make pennies on basketball right now

I think they are in trouble in FB.

I guess I forgot their loaded BB team is for this year and I actually have no clue what they will have in BB once they enter the SEC.

They could flop in both. But do well in golf.

Football drives the bus until the NCAA goes away
It will eventually. Why schools like Texas are taking the sport serious now
But hasn’t happened yet. Won’t happen until everyone has their seat
By that time Kansas can be left on the outside looking in
Same thing with UNC, Duke or whoever

No kidding. I wasn't talking about the media rights. As long as KU ends up in a decent basketball league, I don't care about how "desired" they are as a whole. And they will.

It's very simple. Would you rather be the guy who brags about markets and T-shirt sales, or the one who gets to see his team succeed in one of the sports that more than 4 people follow?

Have fun being a sacrificial lamb in football. Time to switch your focus to basketball. Maybe you can build something halfway respectable. When you've won 14 straight conference titles, come 'n see us.

Media rights are important because winning in basketball isn’t bringing money to your school

Not many KU fans have any delusions about their "place." Everyone understands the issues presented by the market size and the awfulness of the football program. But when it's said and done, they'll find a place in a solid league. If they end up in the MWC, go ahead and laugh your ass off. But crowing a few weeks into this just makes you look desperate to stick it to KU for all the misery they've caused you. Again, very Missouri-like. Act like you've been there.
