Pirate Wire’s summary points aren’t entirely accurate. There is a new reporting requirement for mergers, but they don’t (can’t) have broad power to stop a merger. As for product design, that’s not in the plain language of the DMCC, so I’m curious where they’re pulling that from. I suspect it’s along the lines of requiring standardization for things like charging ports, as we saw with the iPhone switch to USB-C.

The CMA’s power under the DMCC is limited to cover a handful of incredibly large and influential tech companies. Those guys have lawyers who are paid well. I suspect Apple and Google will be fine.
