I was at that UVA-MD game with Juan Dixon. Can't remember feeling more ashamed to be a UVA fan than that day. But I've had equally horrible experiences at Maryland.
When fanbases come up with their list of worst fans across the country, there's a reason why Maryland comes up more than UVA does. Every fanbase has bad fans. Maryland just seems to have a lot more of them than most.

I didn't know Duke got blamed for that Juan Dixon one. I post on DBR every now and then. I think it's one of the best boards for college basketball discussion. I've also competed in some of those pickem pools that Jason organizes. I also post some on syracusefan.com as @brooky03 can attest. I don't really post on many other boards but I check some of them out from time to time.

A good friend of mine went to Maryland. He went to a bunch of basketball and football games there in the early 2010s. Even he readily admits Maryland fans are terrible.
Every fan base has a few people they’d rather not associate with because of how they act. Maryland just has the most and they do the worst.

Great question SoCal......we are losing patience is what we are doing. This current team - if it goes the way Turg's have done in past few years - start fast then fade to black - is a real red flag. Between Bruno, Stix, Cowan, Wiggins - this team has some talent, at the very least win a game in the tourney talent. They better not collapse.
Gary W almost always had his teams suck until Feb - then start beating everybody. Everybody seems to like him, but the issues: fade at end of season, turnovers, unwillingness to adapt (zone offense and press) to certain teams - he seat is getting warm. Real good class again next year (Mitchell twins and Scott) - he has to win, now.
I agree - the Duke/Terp games in 1999 - 2004 were crazy. I was at Final 4 in 2001 - to say the crowd was anti Duke would be an understatement. Those teams would destroy anybody these days. Talent and experience.

The B1G has a ton of money and starting soon MD will be filthy rich-- more than most ADs in the ACC. Again, as a job MD is VERY close to the elites (I know this first hand from people in the sport).
As for Mike, IMO he ruined the sport by making it a declining sport and concentrating power to a few. That was another thread. But now it is just the elites that care. It is not a national sport. Even Bilas -- a Duke guy-- has said similar stuff. But I digress.
Maryland is a great job. Location, recruiting, $$ from BIG, talent base. DC market for jobs after they finish...most grads stay in DC to work.

The amount of $$ in college hoops - nobody is immune. Nobody gets the top 3/4 high school players EVERY year without some monkey business going on. As Frank Pantengilina (sp) said in GF II - Mike (Corleone or Krybaby) has a lot of buffers.

So you are saying Coach K... a single coach... RUINED THE SPORT OF COLLEGE BASKETBALL. One guy. One guy who happens to coach the team that gets the best TV ratings... he somehow singlehandedly ruined the sport? HE was who concentrated "power to a few"? By... doing what? Recruiting well? When you folks and Big Blue Nation get tired of going 30-2 every year and losing to a team with juniors and seniors every March..maybe then you will want to level the court so to speak, again. Y'all did better without it. Gave your Coach the ability to develop players, not just spend 6 months with them.
