Both are proven winners with tons of talent. Both are sucking ass this year. What gives?

I’ll hang up and listen.

Berry is worn down IMO. I'm falling more on the side of playing Felton despite some of the mistakes he makes. Berry has to get more rest. He can't even make a layup right now. He has played pretty poorly lately.

Not sure about Allen. I don't watch Duke enough. I just got home to see the end of the UVA game where he threw his face into Guy's elbow. Maybe less of that would help him. IDK though.

Not flaming, but is Roy holding Felton back? I was reading where UNC fans are not understanding why he's running down Berry.

Felton has been pretty terrible at times. Bad enough that Roy almost has to take him out. He has no clue how to play defense, though the entire team sucks outside of Kenny Williams there. Mainly, he just makes terrible decisions with the ball. He makes some awesome passes and has ridiculous handles but just seems like no one ever really taught him how to actually play the game.

Still, there are games like today where he played well and Roy ran Berry to death anyway. Roy hates State so I get today. He probably just wanted to beat them so bad he wanted Berry out there.

The main issue is a team with shooters just can't makes shots lately. We knew the bigs would kind of struggle. Dudes are just not making anything though.

I think it’s pretty clear Allen is at his best when he’s the most aggressive scorer on the floor. Ingram was a OAD that played into that style.

Tatum, Bagley, Carter are not.

I agree with this. However, Allen from a pure talent perspective is not as good as the Freshmen starters. Bagley for example, would start on the vast majority of NBA teams this year.

Allen is the worst defensive starter on Duke’s team. If he is not hitting shots or doing much on the offensive end, his contribution is a big negative.

Allen right now is Duke’s third or fourth best scoring option on offense and Duke worst defensive starter.

Allen seriously looks disinterested in the game. I don't get it. He is great when he wants to be. But right now it doesn't look like he wants to be.

Berry is averaging over 17pts a game, or was heading into today's game. He's doing fine

Today he looked like he was fatigued though.

Averaging that is fine but he hasn't been great on either side for a little while. His assist to turnover ratio has been 15/12 over the last five games and three of those he shot under 33% with the other two being under 50%. He is taking a ton of shots and not making many. He isn't really a true PG in a lot of ways and is better shooting off the catch, which isn't happening. Not having Woods to play some has really hurt the team IMO.

I’m worried Duke just doesn’t mesh well as a team. A lot of talent can mask things because you’re going to win for more than you lose. Also, there’s no way Grayson is a worse defender than Marvin or Trevon. Those two are continually lost. And for some reason, it almost feels to me like Trevon shuts out Grayson. I hate even suggesting that.

And if situation were reversed and it was Grayson as Guy and Guy as Grayson your opinion would change. No matter, though, you’re too predictable on what you’ll say.

Lol, I probably would have said the same thing since in the other thread I said I would have basically done the same as both of them in the situation. Regardless, Allen has created his issues so people ragging on him a bit doesn't really deserve a raging case of defensiveness here. I didn't think my comment was all that bad tbh. DYB though. He needs it I guess.

Allen has lost that “ it” factor mentality or whatever you want to call it. As said before it’s like he’s not interested. He’s not looking for his shot, he’s not making cuts and at times it’s like he’s not even there. We’re running four freshman on the floor and by the way he’s played all season you can’t tell that he’s the senior on the floor. He just doesn’t do the things that I’ve grown accustomed to watching a duke senior captain do. He doesn’t fire the freshmen up, he doesn’t settle them down when they get rattled. He’s just a regular player on the court. Miss the fire he had as a sophomore

Every year this is my main fear with bringing in so many alpha males, but so far Cal has managed to not have any team turmoils.

And none of y'all can hang with the Hoos
Naw, not if they get to hang all over you and play that slow ugly basketball. No offense, I'm just bitter. Tony is solid and he gets more out of some guys than I ever thought possible. I hope you guys can make some noise this post season and maybe drop one to the Pack come ACC tourney time.

Maybe I should know, but why does Virginia refer to themselves as the Hoos?

Legend has it that Washington & Lee baseball fans dubbed the Virginia players "Wahoos" during the fiercely contested rivalry that existed between the two in-state schools in the 1890s. By 1940, "Wahoos" was in general use around Grounds to denote University students or events relating to them. The abbreviated "Hoos" sprang up later in student newspapers and has gained growing popularity in recent years.

I also haven't watched a ton of Allen this year, past years of misbehavior have ultimately led to his current status. He didn't change things yesterday, refusing the hand offered by a UVa player after a collision at the end of the game. As far as Berry, I think he can run out of gas, trying to run the offense and be a major participant in the scoring category, that's tough work in the UNC system. And agree with coryfly, Felton still a diamond in the rough, we have seen both sides. Do believe he can be special, but as so many young players come to learn, much more to the game than merely offensive skills at this level. Down the stretch, I think Berry will be there for the Heels.

Yes not accepting help is the exact same thing as tripping someone on purpose. You don't have to accept help that is offered. I get what you're saying but really? You're going to chastise him for that? get real

To be fair, it certainly appeared he tried to trip again yesterday.

I wasn't even going to the tripping thing, but a guy with issues doesn't need to make more. A hard foul in a hard fought game and losing at home, sure, I will cut him a little slack. But as bad as his reputation is, he could go a long way to helping himself here as well instead of compound his existing predicament. He didn't just not accept the hand, he slapped it away, but yes, we are quibbling. He's still a dick, there I said it. Happy now ? I am.

I agree. From a talent perspective Allen is the fourth or fifth best player on Duke’s team.

Allen should’ve went pro two year ago.

Surprised that media has ignored Allen's trip yesterday. Same acts last year and it was a lead story. Has the national media lost interest in Allen? He has got lost in Bagley's shadow.

Yea I didn’t know that, but now I do. Thanks for that info!

Probably because he didn't actually trip anyone

Yeah, he missed so no one really paid any attention to it. I think people have gotten bored with it at this point. Allen has always played well against UNC so I'm just going to assume he gets it back on track against us.

Onc the elbow was an accident but do not know too many people would be gracious after getting popped in the jaw

Part of me thinks he's tried very hard to not let the emotions get the best of him - and perhaps that has made him a little too passive. He had an edge about him as a sophomore where he was always an attack-mode. When he drives the lane now, it seems like he always make a last second decision whether to shoot it or pass it out to a 3-point shooter. He actually does a pretty solid job as a facilitator, but his scoring production/aggressiveness has gone way, way down. He probably just needs a game against UNC... that usually gets him going.
