Breaking: UofL has officially hired Chris Mack

Neither is most of their offers, but hey, atleast they're offering.
*are

and you don't know that. obviously we're not going to get 12 of 12. However, we will get 1-2 of the 5*'s we offer for '19. There will be more offered tomorrow...

I guess I gotta start hating Mack now.

First thing he did was come in and offer a bunch of Michigan HSers.

Go recruit some southerners ***git

Mack is solid and UL should be happy. But from living in Louisville and hearing the media you’d think they just reeled in Coach K.

My favorite is his tourney wins in his first 9 years compared to other HOF coaches like X wasn’t established when he took over. Also, that he is the winningest coach in X history, without mention how long his tenure was.

Cause why not?!

His dad said he was happy about the Louisville offer and Mack expects to meet with Ashton and his family this week....Hopefully we get 1-2 per year so I can get used to getting some 5* talent. I don't care about a team of them. All I ask is a team of 4*'s with 1-2 OAD talent. To me, that makes the most competitive and well balanced team because our new coach requires toughness and competitiveness. There's no denying you need that highly talented player. However, put one of those guys in a group of 4*'s that have developed over a year or two, that to me is better than a team of 5*'s UNLESS the 5*'s ARENT OAD. Then that's ok :D Im in favor of the Two And Done. Opens up the door for plenty of schools to get that upper level talent because the player will develop over two seasons..

You do realize that he was recruiting for an A10 school for 7 of those years don’t you? Totally different situation.

You do realize he was coaching against A10 competition during that time?

Look Sean Miller was the second coming, as well. He started recruiting the best of the best and has little to show for it.

The benefit of age is I can harken back to when Rick came to Louisville and compare-and-contrast with Mack (hell I was in Lexington when Rick was hired at UK for that matter). A coaching change generates buzz or recruiting buzz...but rarely generates results in recruits like Calipari had with Cousins and Wall. Rick didn't land a big recruit at Kentucky until his second year with Mashburn and ditto at Louisville with Garcia and Dean though they weren't McDonald's AA players. This class for Louisville will be at best piece meal, he'll have some work to do with keeping his roster more or less intact (with focus on Malik Williams, Jordan Nwora and VJ King among others). Everytime there is a coaching change the incoming coach has to ask the honest question does this kid recruited to a different system fit mine? Mack has a reputation as being hard nosed and I suspect when the time comes to meet with each player individually he'll have some video backup to ask virtually everyone on the roster not named Dwayne Sutton why they didn't get a loose ball all season. That showed up glaringly at Rupp Arena, in Raleigh and some of our close losses at home (notably Syracuse). The fact is there will be some kids told they need to look elsewhere. Happened when Rick got to UK, happened when he came to UofL, happened when Calipari got to UK.

In fact a pin should probably be put up on this board; it's inevitable.

IMHO, the reason the Mack hire is being celebrated so much by UofL fans is because of the circumstances we are currently in, not because (as some rivals claim) we think he is the next big thing. We've had a dark cloud over our program (and administration, for that matter) for a couple a years now. This hire is, along with the Vince Tyra AD appointment, is the first steps to stabilization of the future of our program. We've listened to all the rivals say nobody would even consider coming to our dumpster fire; who the hell would take on that hot mess, and we would have to open the bank vault to get ANY coach to come here. So...pardon us if we are excited about the fact that we apparently set our sites on one of the best available options on the market, who had previously turned away interest from other solid programs (if rumors are accurate; Ohio State, Georgetown, and Indiana) and he agreed to come to our dumpster fire for the reasonable market price of $4 million/year. It certainly remains to be seen if he will be hugely successful or a massive bust, or somewhere in between. But, we got the guy who seemed to be our top/only target, and we now have hope for the future again. So...yeah...we're happy and excited...despite some attempts to rain on our parade. SmokinSmile

Who's saying U of L shouldn't be happy with Mack? (please don't quote Rafters, for the love of god). I think most people see Mack as a great hire for your program

Even said as much. I guess you don’t listen to anyone on 680 here in Louisville? Their attempt to already get on Mack’s good side is ridiculous. I guess they are still brainwashed from how Jurich ran things.

Wtf does Sean Miller have to do with this?

Besides being a former X coach, the mentor for Chris Mack, taking a leap from a smaller school to a big time program, and being the most comparable coach to Mack. Nothing I guess.

Is this you?

Couldn't even quote me. Sad. And there's a bit of a difference in a college student doing that ^ and 50+ old men/women
Dude that guy is like 40, he does have the goofy beard, L sign, and tattoos though. Pretty good U of L fan pic if you ask me. I know you go to school there, is this how you dress at games?

Are you Gary?

Or are you Birdhead Ryan?
Costume notwithstanding, this guy is a good normal looking dude in real life, with a wife (or girlfriend, not sure) and kids at the games. And the costumed UK fan is also a friend of a friend of mine as well. They both just have that Superfan mentality that transcends what you would think would keep most from dressing up like that. Good on both of them. Now...those "fans" that go to a rival's games in full rival team gear when their team has nothing to do with the game...those people are mock worthy. Laughing

The late Skip Prosser was the mentor for Chris Mack, what else ya got?

If that dude is a college student he's been in school for a decade. He's been wearing that goofy costume at games at least that long.

Be interested to see the contract language when it comes to the Bowen situation.
