Another year, another Conference RPI #1 for the Big 12

Who was the last champion besides Kansas from the big 12? Without googling I have no earthly idea. Who was the last team to make a final four besides Kansas?
What does that have to do with this year? This year is up for grabs for probably 15 teams.

It’s always rated the RPI number one conference just like this year
Not having a champion doesn’t mean that it isn’t. Top to bottom the Big 12 is probably the best most years, there are no cupcakes in the conference.

Yikes.....

Iowa State lost at home to Florida A&M. Yeah----300th in KenPom, Florida A&M.

Eeek.

If you have to look at the worst team in the league to find an embarrassing loss, it kind of proves the point (not that I’m defending the credibility of RPI).

Worst team, or not---Losing at home to 300 rated Kenpom team is awful, for a P5 school. As bad as ISU, might be---they were still 28 point favorites.

The 4th coming soon, likely 3 months. Best team since Morris twins / T-Rob team 10-11 and arguably since natty team of 2008. This is basically what last team was before all the injuries and suspension (implosion).
WVU/Kansas Saturday is clearly the game of the day. #16 at #3.
Aaaasaaaand it’s not on TV...on the “Plus” instead.

(Sigh). Anyhow, this game should be a war until the officials jump in and ensure a Jayhawk victory.

Another fun fact:

Big 12 has 7 of the top 25 recruiting classes for 2019 class of b-ball. Per 247 composite.

And 6 of top 21 classes for 2020 class.

That’s almost 1/3 of the top talent.

Becoming a powerhouse league with no weak links.

Gladly will help you - this century have had 4 teams beside KU make the final four. What other conference can say 5 from their league have been to the FF this century? That’s half our league....Am actually curious....

2019: Texas tech national runner-up (lost game with 20 seconds left)
2016: OU final four
2005: Okie State final four
2004: Texas final four
2003: OU final four

Then just KU:

2002: final four
2003: national runner up
2008: national champs
2012: national runner up
2018: final four

The ACC:
Duke, UNC, UVA, Syracuse, Georgia Tech, (Maryland in ‘02) have all gone to the FF this century. I think the Big 10 has had 5 as well (MSU, UM, Ohio State, IU, Wisconsin).

One team league
Not with Tech where they’re at. Just played for a natty.

Also, when was the Big 10’s last natty? Like 1995?

I would also venture to guess that the B1G hasn’t put 5 teams in the final four this century. Maybe 3? Maryland’s doesn’t count just like WVU 2010 doesn’t count for us.

Michigan
MSU
Indiana
Wisconsin
Ohio State
Illinois

All made the Final 4 this century they don’t even have to count Maryland’s.

Our last Natty was 2000 if you aren’t going to count Maryland. We have made many, many Final Fours but can’t seem to get it done.

Ga Tech, another team that has fallen completely off the map that you forget how good they were in the early 00’s.

Maybe Pastner can be the guy to replace Turgeon? Heard he turns programs around, quickly. Usually in the wrong direction. But, things do change with him.

Very true. You can guarantee there will be a change in the quality of your team under Pastner.

Careful with this one mainly two points:

1) most leagues will be one or two teams off so percentages will be really close.
2) 2020 is far from over and there are a ton of top 100 guys left to sign.

I mean the SEC for example:

2019 - 5 of top 25, 6 of the top 30, 8 of the top 35
2020 - 5 of top 25, 6 of top 30, 7 of the top 35

I will say Baylor has quietly been a pretty solid program the last decade or so seems like they’re in the S16 every other year

three of their four sweet sixteens in the last decade they lost to a top 2 seed as well. so its not like they are getting some easy draws in the second weekend either. two losses to 1 seeds in elite eight as well (duke 2010, kentucky 2012).

I was impressed when looking it up.

problem is that there is not consistency in the middle to upper middle of the conference, just like in the SEC. but both conferences have taken strides forward.

Im looking forward to our challenge in a couple weeks.

But those RPI conference rankings

It is kind of funny when you think that a conference like the Mountain West has just as many teams that have won a national title (UNLV and Wyoming) as the Big XII (Kansas and Oklahoma State).

But those RPI conference rankings

Big 10 hasn't won a title in two decades but it's still clearly one of the top conferences perennially.

Funny how it's always an SEC fan trashing the Big 12. A league that literally had one top 10 team not named Kentucky for a decade before last season.

This century the Big Ten has has 6 different teams play for a National Championship.

Obviously winning them means more but that’s still pretty impressive.

In the last 30 years:

SEC has had 3 teams win NC (6 total national championships).

Big 12 has had 1 team. (1 total national championship.

Also Final Fours in last 30 years:

SEC - 20

BIG 12 - 14 (West Virginia did have one in 2010 but didnt join the conference until 2011)

Nice cutoff point.

I'm not claiming that the Big 12 has had great tourney success. But the reason that SEC fans tear down the Big 12 is to devalue KU's streak. However, throughout that streak, the Big 12 was much better than the SEC (removing KU and Kentucky). There's no denying this.

One top 10 team, aside from Kentucky, for a decade. In some years, there weren't even any other ranked teams.

I said before last season (as far as top 10 teams). The SEC was actually solid last season. The 15 years or so prior to that? Not so much. A flukey run by South Carolina doesn't really mitigate this.

I wasn’t trashing the conference. Just trashing yal for wearing it like a badge of honor. It reminds me of Kentucky football fans but I look and it’s a fan of a supposed blue blood.

How many sec fans root for Kentucky to win the national championship when their school is done?
