ACC Thread

I didn’t see that loss on the radar tonight.
It’s reported that they had to stop practice a few days ago, and 4 guys were even late for shoot-around before the game. They believed their own press after the Saturday win and didn't come to play and Clemson needed the win and just took it to them out of the gate. It was 15-2 before the first TV time out. UNC fought back to 70-70 and then blew it at the end. Well-deserved loss.

Clemson now has road wins against Alabama and UNC. Off the top of my head, I can't think of a single team in the country that has a pair of road wins quite like that.

Might sound crazy, but Clemson is actually good enough to make a Final Four.

Yeah, I was watching it (mancave had all 4 screens going last night). I thought the heels were going to take it when they hit that 3 to tie it at 70, but Clemson did something most Brad Brownell teams don't do… .they responded.

I hadn't heard about the NC players showing up late to practice and hetting lax. You don't typically see that from veteran teams. I bet they don't do that again.

It’s the Joe Girard factor.

I miss him. Every third game, when Cuse accidentally makes a three, I think about him.

Pretty sad, if true. Would be interesting to know who was late. RJ quickly becoming a favorite of mine, so hope he wasn't one of 'em.

yeah but you also to remember the tantalizing defeats to UVA, Ga Tech, a Bad Miami Team and Va tech. That team could easily show up also and get sent home in the first game

Very nice set of wins for sure.

Good enough? Maybe. Consistent enough? No.

Yeah, Brownell teams usually crumble. They did the exact opposite, though we had a Bacot dunk he fumbled out of bounds that would have given us the lead. Maybe they would have crumbled then, but we did that first and continued to suck it up.

Yeah, showed up late to shootaround for the game That's inexcusable.

I'm aware of the inconsistency. And that would certainly make me pause before picking Clemson to the Sweet 16 or beyond.

But, they also had a stretch in Nov/Dec where they beat these teams without any blemishes:
#40 Boise State, Home, Q2 Win
#5 Alabama, Road, Q1 Win
#63 Pittsburgh, Road, Q1 Win
#41 South Carolina, Home, Q2 Win
#37 TCU, Neutral, Q1 Win

3 Q1 Wins and 2 Q2 wins. The Q2 teams, South Carolina and Boise State, are currently projected as 5 and 8 seeds on BracketMatrix, respectively. So, that's a 5-game winning-stretch where they won very tough games. 3 Q1 games + another 2 tournament teams.

In the last 12 Final Fours, we've seen exactly 12 schools that were a 7 seed or lower. So yeah, if I'm looking at a dark-horse to make it to Phoenix, Clemson would be one of the top candidates for me.

They can be a matchup issue for teams. Ian and Hall are very good players. They struggle to defend a good big, and Bacot had a good game. But Hall is also hard for a big like Bacot to guard if he is hitting like he was last night. I'm a big Hall fan though. Love his game.

They can be very good offensively but aren't great defensively IMO. UNC just sucks shooting the ball. Even RJ Davis, who shoots like 90% from the FT line, left three points there last night. Then your big time portal shooter, Ryan, and stud 5 star PG shoot worse than the Love/Leaky combo last year (much worse actually).

Elliot Cadeau has one of the worst 3pt shots I've ever seen for a highly rated guard out of HS. I guess his speed and quickness and getting to the basket is what his strengths are

Yeah, not sure what is up with him. Apparently he was a good shooter before he got to UNC. But so was Ryan. Heck, so were Wojcik and Withers apparently. None of them can shoot now. Not sure what the crap we do to shooters when they get to UNC.

Honestly, @dukedevilz the FSU/UVA game might have made a great pickem. Because you just don’t effing know which FSU you’re gonna get lol. But selfishly I’m glad fsu hasn’t been in it yet because it helps me be less emotional in my picks.

That's probably fair. I'd say that's a toss-up game. Certainly more so than Kentucky-Gonzaga. Though, I sometimes side with teams that are higher ranked even if it's not a true 50-50 contest.

The Duke/Florida State game is close to being one of the top 10 games next week. As of right now, I think that game would just miss the cut. But, if FSU beats UVA, their ranking would improve, and I'd be more likely to include the Duke game.

Wake Forest @ Virginia next Saturday, however, likely makes the cut. Been a while since I've included an ACC game; UNC @ Clemson may have been the last one.

I really like UVA -1.5 at Florida State. Clemson -1.5 at ‘Cuse O151.5 seems nice, too.

I don’t think the FSU/Duke game would generate much diversity of picks. Duke will likely be favored by 5-6, IMO. And FSU has fallen flat in pretty much every big home game this year.

I can see FSU knocking off UVA. We can match up well with the Packline.

FSU/Hamilton’s ability to carve up Tony Bennett’s pack line continues, as FSU goes 22-33 from 2 against UVA’s 10th ranked 2 point percentage defense.

But FSU’s season long inability to shoot from three does them in yet again. UVA outscores FSU by 24 from deep and wins 80-76.

Don't look now, but Pittsburgh now has a winning record in league play at 7-6. They started off 1-5!

Incredible turnaround. They looked like doodoo after the first few weeks in January.

Sure would have been nice had your offense stalled for just a little bit against Duke.

Yeah, they just made shots that game. When they make shots they are fine. Lots of people love the way they play defense but it's been a little bit of fool's gold in a way. Teams have missed a lot of threes against them. That is changing now, as most thought it eventually would.

At least I won't be as bummed when we flame out in the tourney. Because I thought the Heels had something for a minute. At this point we're gonna need RJ to go crazy for a few weekends. Hope, hope.

I’ve seen plenty of February swoons turn into an Elite 8 run. Especially for teams with guys who have Tourney experience.

Are you really that down on them? I still think they have a really good chance to make the final four

Probably more about how high I was on them before this crappy stretch. Would've loved a 1-seed.
